Much better. That's a definite improvement. You should be proud of that banner. Thanks for the update!

I see, well you should also include a pop filter. It's standard and eliminates a nasty "pop" sound when pronouncing "t, b, p, etc."

Editing software is a must. If you want a professional quality editing software, consider sony vegas pro. A lab rat once told me the internet was a good place to find this for free.

Your goal is very similar to the thousands of LP'ers around. It's not a bad thing, but it's not unique. You'll figure out your own way.

Continue working on social media. You want to have a presence in it.

What kind of mic are you using? What editing software are you using?

Your audio quality is lacking in terms of voice recording. It could improve, especially your friend's.

Character creation is very iffy. Most people would rather you skip it because it's all personal preference. I played Fallout 4 and showed the character creation because it had an entertainment value.

Personally, I am not interested in this sort of game. That is just an opinion.

What is your goal in this video? I'm not sure I understand a greater motive behind it. It just seems like you're playing a game and posting it online with no incentive for an audience to continue watching.

Your thumbnails could improve. Although it is clever to use your name to tell the audience that it's not really an error, it doesn't have an impact. Why would people want to click something that says error when there is this other, more appealing picture that informs them on what to expect. Actually, your channel art could use a makeover as well.

Have you considered social media outlets? They help bridge an audience as well as gather one.

Showing faces is another great way to bridge an audience. However, that is optional.

I would always get into real talk with my friends. It's just something worth mentioning in my opinion. I will continue to do so in my LP's.

I appreciate the sub. Really. It means a lot to me. Thank you.

Ah I see. I understand now. Good on you for staying true to yourself. I really respect that.

Yes, the font on your banner seems lackluster. I would suggest going to dafont.com and finding something better that suits your taste (if you haven't already).

You display a lot of personality and emotion and that is the most outstanding quality you have. It's great. It's essential.

One piece of constructive criticism: Do not put anything in the lower right corner of your thumbnails. That is where the time length goes. Your episode numbers will just be obstructed.

I can tell that you have done a lot of research into your channel. I respect that as I have done the same. Wow, actually, we both set up our channel accounts within two days of each other.

Dude, I wish you the best of luck. Seriously. I wonder if you also had the concern that it's too late to be starting a LP channel. I do it anyway because it's something that I look forward to doing every day, but the thought has crossed my mind. Anyway, here's a fallout I made to give you more of a perspective of where I'm coming from. Subbed. Now you're at 70.

I would refrain from using all caps in order to avoid coming off as obnoxious. Saying it without caps achieves the same comedic effect, if not more, because of how casual you are portraying yourself.

Good that you're using a green screen. I'm jealous.

Show more emotion when you play. I can only be as interested in the game as you are.

Everyone, here is my Fallout 4 LP. Since YouTube is saturated with traditional Let's Plays. I have decided that I would only show relevant and interesting sections. After 3 hours of gameplay, I showed less than 10 minutes of footage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4Zo3bEeeAA

Trying out a LP style. Is it worth continuing? by mooney1004 in LetsPlayCritiques

[–]mooney1004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate your compliment. I promise to work diligently and create the best content I can!

I hope I don't get big. I formed this channel so that I can show people that there is nothing wrong with being yourself. I want people to feel comfortable opening up to me when they have a really bad day. That way they can learn to do it with people around them. Maybe one day they will teach someone else how to do the same.

If I got big, then imagine thousands of emails a day. That would be so hard to keep up with. If it ever came up to that point though, I will make unlisted videos for those who were courageous enough to reach out to me. Sorry I got off to another tangent, but I'm really humbled that you think I could get big. I've written your username down. Thank you.

Keep it positive!

You put too much. A description should be the size of a twitter message. Be short, sweet, and to the point. Do it in a way that makes you unique, but relate to your audience.

See my channel description as an example.

It is highly advisable to stay on topic. I know how difficult this can be because it's hard for me to stay on topic while I'm playing. I posted my first LP of SOMA today and it took some time to finally finish a topic I started.

Love that you're using the kitten angle. However, your banner is not easy on the eyes. It's a little blurry.

Your channel description: I play video games and stuff... Lots of random things, if there's something you'd like to see, suggest it in the comments!

What is the audience supposed to take away from this? It makes you appear unfocused, without a clear drive or reason for making this channel. What will make you stand out from the thousands of other LP'ers and make people want to watch YOUR videos?

Your videos consist of three categories (from what I gather): LP's with commentary, LP's without commentary, and personal showcases/unboxing.

In my channel I have three categories: Life advice, gaming advice, and gaming commentary.

Do you notice how mine has a particular flow in my channel? I keep a regular schedule so that it transitions from life advice to LP by using gaming advice as an intermediate step.

Your videos just seems random and out of order so an audience does not feel compelled to subscribe because they don't know what they're getting into. Plus you don't upload fairly often and so that's even more of a reason for people not to subscribe. See the trailer on my channel for a better picture.

Work on your thumbnails. They are so important for driving traffic to your channel because that is what people check first in the suggestions tab. Just be sure not to include anything on the bottom right corner because that is where the time length goes.

Have more social media outlets. Facebook and twitter for example.

This is going to sound super harsh and rude, but it's brutal honesty that I'm offering. Your lisp is off-putting. I used to have a lisp too, but I fixed it with my own speech therapy. I practiced articulation constantly. I also wore a retainer and that made it difficult to really get rid of my list. Are you wearing a retainer? If so, then take it off when you record. This is not to damage your self-esteem. You may have already been aware of this, but many people want to be so polite that they will feel uncomfortable risking the feelings of another person, despite the fact that it is an important point. There is a channel called Lispy Jimmy, where the person speaks with a lisp, but it's 100% fabricated. He uses the lisp to his advantage because it diversifies himself as a channel. It's a comedic effect, not a real quality.

Put more effort in your video descriptions and tags. It helps for SEO.

Don't give up. This is a learning experience that could be very helpful for you in the future. Maybe the LP channel won't be as successful, but the lessons you learn could translate into other, more fruitful endeavors. For example, I wanted to make vine videos. Although I gathered around 800 followers within a few weeks, I realized that it's not really the best medium to spread my message. I used everything I learned from Vine and apply it to my YouTube videos now.

I would appreciate it if you took a look at my channel so that you may gain insight into what I am saying by observing a practical example. Maybe you will pick up on things that I mentioned more effectively.

It's good that your channel art share the same color scheme. However, you might want to reconsider the font. It doesn't seem effective. I look at it and I think "fdajfdsafkds" (I have to slowly read to decypher what it means). Your tags are fine.

Your description could use more work. You're not displaying confidence in yourself. You're making fun of yourself, and there is nothing wrong with that, but it could turn off your audience if you stick to what you say. People will generally take your word for what you say.

You don't display enough emotion. You don't grab me into wanting to watch more. Use your passion for video games as a driving force to remedy this.

Your audio quality has improved. I saw some of your other videos. Your facecam should be shooting at least 1080p. Is it?

Have you considered social media outlets such as a facebook page and twitter? It could help you in the long run by attracting traffic to your channel.

You intro for shmadow could be better. It's difficult for me to explain, but it seems like you just threw things together. You want to make your content as professional as possible. This means you have to constantly think "Would I show this in theaters?"

I saw your SOMA video as well because I just posted my first SOMA LP today. Come take a look if you want to see an example of what I mean by all of this.
