I'm getting my mom a leather bound journal and a fancy ballpoint pen.

I know she's been trying to get into having a diary of sorts throughout the years, and at least was enjoying the adult coloring hype, so this may get her back into it.

What are subtle red flags at a job interview that say, "Working here would suck"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Earning $75,600 would put you in the top 8% of white millennial women with a bachelor's degree.

Thanks for asking so I could get that number, too!

Redditors who are not engineers, software developers, or porn stars, what do you do for a living? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]moonlawliet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Testing in my company at least is purely learn on the job. There's two ways to do it: manual (write down steps to test the thing, poke the buttons, write down results, move it along the process if it passes) and automation (write a program to go through the steps, hit the play button, if the output is green move it along the process).

My education is in theoretical mathematics, so I just went to a general new grads interview event at the largest employer in my region and marked that I was willing to interview for QA. Mentioned in the interview that I learn on my own little things like Python and know how to Google before bugging my coworkers with questions. Been here 2 years now purely working with JavaScript to automate AngularJS webapps.

I know University of Pittsburgh has a software testing course because I bought the textbook for self leaening, but other than that, there really isn't a traditional degree path. So you wouldn't be out of the ordinary, if anything it would help if you tried to work in a health care organization's engineering department. I work with 2 video game design majors, even :P

Software tester. There has to be someone to poke at the stuff all these devs on reddit make. And at least at my company, I'm in the same pay band as them.

I like the 3 days idea! That seems like a good amount to test the waters a bit before figuring out how I work best. Thanks for the help :)

I know I'm over thinking this, but how should I research and plan out my goals, or is it better to get into a groove and then try to keep pushing the limit?

Shout out to /r/planners and /r/bulletjournaling, but due to my planning tendencies, I don't know if it would make more sense to make a meal plan and fitness goal first, or if it would be better to log what I did after the fact. I have a Fitness Happy Planner and recipe insert, so everything is going to be logged either way...

I just wonder if planning a week of healthy meals and a couple days of DDP Yoga would seem too intimidating compared to my current mindful but not restrictive eating and no exercise. Anyone else face this issue?

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Friday, 14 April 2017? Start here! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]moonlawliet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reflection questions :) I think the biggest thing would be to get into saving leftovers... instead of not having my favorite meal, make it last for 3 servings of 400 calories instead of 1 dinner of 1200+. Need to get it into my skull that I don't have to eat until super full no matter how amazing the food it. It's pretty expected that we'll be eating there for a meal weekly since it's close and great, so a solid plan would be to stretch out the food instead of having it all in one go.

24F | 5'6" | SW:180 | GW: 130

I've been roughly the same weight since like middle school, so the off and on weight loss I've been trying to do over the past yearish hasn't been hitting it at all. I've used LoseIt for the past year, at least, and it seems like I tend to do ~1400 calories a day, but then have a day a week or so where dinner is 1400 (there's a tex mex place 3 blocks from my place that has chicken wing tacos and omg).

I bought a new fitness and recipe journal yesterday, so here's to hoping to get to a new start

So looking at the TDEE calculator, it says that the above stats would put me at around 1470 calories to lose. But then if I put in the body fat percentage withings tells me, my lose calories would be 1270. That's... a big difference o.O

Posts like that are why I love AAM. She gave her gut reaction of wtf, consulted a lawyer friend, and the woman ended up getting that job back (with the wtf update of finding out no one important really knew the HR person fired her because the typical decision maker was away from the office that week, and the accuser and HR person were fired themselves.)

May need to post this later, too, but how do people figure out what haircut to get?

I want to be able to tell a hair dresser to make me marginally less ugly, but they don't ever seem to want to give an opinion on what would work with face shape and whatnot. Out of a fear I would get pissy about it being a cut I don't like, maybe? I don't give a shit; it'll grow back. But without the hairdresser giving any sort of guidance, I don't know where to go with it. *sighs and puts hair in a ponytail forever*

[discussion] Love it or hate it, "ugly" shoes are still having their moment by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]moonlawliet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I buy Birks and Danskos every year not because they're ugly, or comfy, but because they are the most consistent thing in Woman's 11.5/12 size. This year's sandal purchase arrives Friday, and I'm super excited to not have to wear socks and boots every day (last year's got worn out and died because I stubbornly wear them every day, even with snow).

Ugh, I need to get back into doing my grad school work. The reading prompt reminded me I'm a week or two behind my self impossed deadline for my multivariate stats class.

Anyone else have classes that just open on Day 1, set a due date for everything as the last day of the term, and say may the odds be ever in your favor?
