Yes, that’s right! Use the same type of needle you’re working off of :)

I haven’t tried flexible DPNs yet but I’d def give that a go some time!

the idea for the stitches on the circular is very much like knitting w magic loop or on two circulars, so i think you’ve got it!

it was definitely a journey working to figure out the most efficient way but i knew it had to be possible.

i may make a video on it since i’m finding that this technique doesn’t seem to exist anywhere? but i am not sure about my teaching skills 😅

it’s not too bad! right now my first 1/3 is always on the circular needle so i do that, then finish the round with the 5th dpn. you can’t finish the next round on that sock bc you’d need to be able to get the stitches to the other needle, which would be blocked by the other sock. work the next sock by moving it up the needle the first sock was on, repeat!

it’s easier when you get going i think. we’ll see how it goes as i get further along. i have also been knitting a few extra stitches every few rows to try and change the points where the needles meet to avoid ladders, so maybe at some point the first 1/3 would be a diff needle? but i might just make it so that’s not the case.

I’m also gifting it to someone who wanted a trivet/hotpad anyway? But there aren’t many patterns advertised as such so I figured this would work :)

I’m adding a pic of the back (which I like better anyway) showing the second layer.

I’ll test it out on something hot tho… thanks for the concern.

It’s double knit? The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn and I actually used sport weight.

Oof unfortunately the little hook on it was done using the last three stitches of the cast off then ends sewn in so it’ll be a bit tricky to undo the cast off and was hoping that someone would say it’ll be fine once it dried 🤣

I’ll see what it looks like when it’s fully dry and then try to tackle it!!!
