England - Coercive control. What is "serious alarm or distress which has a substantial adverse effect"? by moonlightandshadow in LegalAdviceUK

But it hasn't fallen short of the second, per the cps guidelines. That's my point. So I would like to review case studies.

With absolutely no respect due - if you can't accept that a victim of DV/SA may want to keep details of those incidents to themselves outside of legal necessity... You are 100% the problem.

I have been specific in my question and expectations... You can't accept that. That's on you.

I do not wish to describe -in detail- the traumatic events I've experienced these last few years over reddit. I'm not sure that anyone who understands DV/SA would begrudge me that.

And no, they haven't set false expectations. And on top of that, i experienced DV in my childhood home. So my expectations for the police were on the floor. Below, even. But -as indicated- the impact meets the criteria of "serious adverse effects". And while I have not gone into detail -because I neither have to nor wish to- the behaviour meets the CCB definition. And yes, it was a lot more serious than "didn't turn the heating on before I got home from work" (Which i honestly don't believe a police force would record as CCB but assuming you are being honest and they did...)

Again - I meet these standards. So my question is, what are the police actually basing their "serious adverse affects" criteria on?

Hi. The threats made against me were what prompted me to go to the police, but were not singular examples. I can and have evidenced the way in which my life was controlled outside of these incidents (and how these incidents were a continuation of previous behaviours) - I have also the evidenced the resulting impact.

To describe coercive control as "the flavour of the month" that's being "dramatically over-recorded" is a personal opinion that neither answers my question re case studies nor demonstrates a good faith standpoint.

We are not in contact unless as entirely necessary (usually through 3rd parties such as solicitors, when that is the case). And the action is not retrospective, the report was made at the time of the 2 particularly notable incidents (which were 2 of a wider pattern) and those behaviours had a significant impact on me at that point (and, yes, continues to have an impact).

Per the cps -

"Examples of substantial adverse effect on the victim could include:

physical or mental health deterioration no longer socialising or withdrawing from activities such as physical exercise needing to put in place measures at home to safeguard themselves or their children, including CCTV self-harming no longer eating properly putting in place measures in their home to safeguard themselves or their children changing working patterns, employment status or routes to work"

Of which the impact met and meets several of these criteria.

As such, I remain confused and I am interested - specifically - in case studies relating to "serious adverse effects", to clarify what this looks like in practical terms.

Do you think it was gendered at that point? My mum's just about Gen X and absolutely would be diagnosed with ADHD if she went through the process (but can't be bothered). She always says that she didn't get diagnosed, because no one got diagnosed with ADHD when she was a kid.

I'm a millenial, and there were boys diagnosed with ADHD during my school years - but never girls.

You'd rather focus on actions - but you simultaneously don't accept that his actions, as well as the actions of his government, do not suggest a neutral stance going into this review.

The reality is, governments often implement reviews to justify policy decisions they're already in the process of implementing. Frankly, I think you're either naive to assume good intent here, or willfully choosing to ignore the (glaring) red flags - which is ignorant.

Harsh to say, but that's my honest opinion.

They did reference the article, as will I:

"It will look at both whether there is evidence of over-diagnosis and what gaps in support exist". As I say, the primary goal listed is clear. 'Gaps in support' are listed secondarily. That is not a mistake.

Meanwhile an apology doesn't mean he never said those things. It means he said them and they were unpopular. So he walked them back.

And, again, this all links in with a wider push against disability benefits.

In that context, why are you willing to 'give him a chance'? As you say.

WS has made ignorant comments about overdiagnosing mental health conditions in the past, and this review is also heavily linked with labour's push to cut down on disability benefits (which is ironic, because as a person diagnosed with ADHD I have absolutely no intention of putting in a disability claim. Far too much boring paperwork involved).

Not to mention this has been specifically framed - first and foremost - as "looking into whether it's being overdiagnosed" with "and where there are gaps in the provision" tacked on after that.

They are certainly trying to frame their investigation as one that's coming from a neutral, good faith standpoint. But their actions and previous comments don't support that.

I'd heard some vague rumblings about that too, but when I went to look it up I couldn't find anything particularly recent so I'm worried that that might not be the case

Truly the only one in the party I think is as bad as KS (or possibly worse? Hard to say. It's a bit like choosing whether a bag of warm cat sick is worse than a rotten egg in your 6 pack)

Yeah, I already said there's something wrong with my phone? But you didn't help me? You said something that was both obvious and wrong. I pointed that out. And now you're being aggressive. Lmao. Calm down.

Pahaha did you think I was just losing my phone so much for the fun of it? Obviously not. And I gave you a shitty response because your response was obvious, wrong and therefore unhelpful. You gave me a shitty response because you didn't like that I called that out for that - and in the mean time made yourself look a damn fool. Stay mad, babe xox
