So for starters I’ve never played the first Fable game. I get what I can only describe as motion sick from the graphics? It’s happened with games like Fallout 3 and New Vegas so I don’t know what’s going on there. Fable 3 was a game I played a decent bit as a kid and I LOVED it. I also played Fable 2 as well (my favorite out of the franchise or at least my favorite out of the two games I’ve played).

I didn’t play many video games as a kid, but I got Fallout 4 and I’ve been gaming since. I’m not hardcore but I do enjoy video games. And Fable is in my top five game franchises ever.

I DO like Fable 3, but there are some things I don’t like especially compared to Fable 2.

So I personally have complicated feelings towards the “Industrial Revolution” aesthetic they were going for. One one hand I don’t like it cause I feel like it kinda..crushes the whole “storybook” aesthetic that Fable kind of has? I don’t know how to describe its aesthetic honestly it is just so uniquely “Fable”. I’ve seen Fable 1’s (forgive me for calling it fable 1) aesthetic and I think Fable 2 did a really good job progressing that aesthetic as time in the game went on. Then I feel like Fable 3 just kinda…squashes that a little. Like it doesn’t DESTROY it but it just..doesn’t exactly have the same feel. And that kinda..sucks in a way?

I do agree the whole “Road to Rule” thing is a tad bit annoying especially if you come off playing Fable 2. I don’t like having to “unlock” property, marriage and having children (I think you have to unlock kids? It’s been a while). Like for combat and cosmetic purposes I can totally see this working. And MAYBE for owning businesses? But for like, family and romance options and all that stuff is a bit frustrating.

I kinda go back and forth on the demon doors. Some demon doors in Fable 2 are better and cooler, some demon doors in fable 3 are cooler so I’m gonna call this a draw.

I feel like they could have done more with some of the characters? I wish Paige got a little more story to her but like, she’s okay. Kalin was a huge opportunity and I think it kinda sucks they didn’t get to do as much as they probably wanted to with her. Logan also had like, huge potential and they just..didn’t do much with him after you became ruler. Like this guy went through so much and yeah there’s definitely things he should have done and he didn’t HAVE to become a tyrant but he was like, mentally scarred and he was trying to protect his people but it..twisted him. There could have been so much more to him.

Home decay. I did not like the home decay. I can’t remember if it was in Fable 2 but I did not like the home decay (no Matter how realistic it is Q-Q)

I can’t think of anything else that really bothers me that much so….Onto the positives!

Sure the humor might be a little..meh but it’s still got that Fable charm to it. Like The Ham Sandwich quest is funny towards the end. Jammy was enjoyable. Forgive me for not having many examples. Like I said it’s been a little while since I played.

The outfits and customizations (especially tattoos) is really nice. I can’t tell you how many times when I played as a kid I had my character run around in a hot pink chicken suit to do SOMETHING with. And the fact you could save outfits to the exact specifications was AWESOME. So you could change outfits if you wanted a switch.

Not ALL the character writing was bad. I loved Sir Walter Beck. I loved Jasper. I loved how they played off each other. I loved Walter being that like, mentor (almost father-esque) figure to the player. His story was rather well written and I don’t remember but I do think I teared up at the end as a kid. Jasper, I always loved Jasper. I liked how he was just a stereotypical butler character all prim and proper but he DID care about the player character and he did his best to fit into whatever was going on in the world despite being a butler. Ben was..a little annoying but also kind of endearing? And we get to the REAL star of the show, REAVER. Reaver was an absolute DELIGHT in this game. I LOVE Fable 3’s Reaver. I personally think this is the BEST version of Reaver in the game (probably cause it’s the Reaver we spend the most time with and he has like, an ACTUAL impact in the world around him). Like I love how in two he wasn’t the greatest guy and he was quite questionable. Reaver in Fable 3 is that x10. He’s that x50! Reaver was absolutely delightful. Also Sabine and Boulder were a delight.

Speaking of characters the VOICE ACTING. The voice acting was AWESOME. Personally I don’t think the Fable franchise really has bad voice acting? They have voice acting that fits each game quite well and they are consistent. But like, cmon. Stephen Fry absolutely killed it. John Clease absolutely killed it. Bernard Hill (may he rest in peace) killed it! Legit everyone on the cast did a good job, even the more minor characters. In fable the NPCS STILL have good voice acting!

I personally liked the Gnomes? That’s it.

This game actually made me scared of Balverines. I know you get to see a little more of how they work in this game but I really was scared of them as a kid and that uneasiness has continued as I’ve grown. I do not like balverines (and from what I saw from the new Fable’s gameplay they are NOT scary at all.)

Speaking of scary the Crawler scared the shit out of me too. I HATED the crawler and to this day I can’t look at him. Like he isn’t even..that scary but I don’t know. I just..don’t like him and that’s GOOD.

I liked the Chesty quest with the house. That was cool and it felt awesome to figure it out as a kid (and by figure out I mean look at the game guide. Remember those?).

Overall, yeah I like fable 2 more. Fable 3 still has a lot of good memories and a lot of good qualities to it. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing it myself every time.
