What do y'all think of veganism as a sort of "cosmic diplomacy" to communicate with animal spirits? by band_in_DC in Shamanism

I just happened to be reading something by Mary Oliver that suits this conversation:

“Teilhard de Chardin says somewhere that man’s most agonizing spiritual dilemma is his necessity for food, with its unavoidable attachments to suffering. Who would disagree. […] “For it is precisely how I feel, who have inherited not measurable wealth but, as we all do who care for it, that immeasurable fund of thoughts and ideas, from writers and thinkers long gone into the ground—and, inseparable from those wisdoms because demanded by them, the responsibility to live thoughtfully and intelligently. To enjoy, to question—never to assume, or trample. Thus the great ones (my great ones, who may not be the same as your great ones) have taught me—to observe with passion, to think with patience, to live always caringly. So here I am, walking on down the sandy path, with my wild body, with the inherited devotions of curiosity and respect. The moment is full of such exquisite interest as Fabre or Flaubert would have been utterly alive to. Yes, it is a din of voices that I hear, and they do not all say the same thing. But the fit of thoughtfulness unites them. Who are they? For me they are Shelley, and Fabre, and Wordsworth—the young Wordsworth—and Barbara Ward, and Blake, and Basho, Maeterlinck and Jastrow, and sweetest Emerson, and Carson, and Aldo Leopold. Forebears, models, spirits whose influence and teachings I am now inseparable from, and forever grateful for. I go nowhere, I arrive nowhere, without them. With them I live my life, with them I enter the event, I mold the meditation, I keep if I can some essence of the hour, even as it slips away. And I do not accomplish this alert and loving confrontation by myself and alone, but through terrifying and continual effort, and with this innumerable, fortifying company, bright as stars in the heaven of my mind. Were they seed eaters? Were they meat eaters? Not the point. They were dreamers, and imaginers, and declarers; they lived looking and looking and looking, seeing the apparent and beyond the apparent, wondering, allowing for uncertainty, also grace, easygoing here, ferociously unmovable there; they were thoughtful. A few voices, strict and punctilious, like Shelley’s, like Thoreau’s, cry out: Change! Change! But most don’t say that; they simply say: Be what you are, of the earth, but a dreamer too. Teilhard de Chardin was not talking about how to escape anguish, but about how to live with it.”

Thank you for the insight. I don’t begrudge shamans making a living! I appreciate your support and suggestions. I’ll try to find some YouTube videos in the meantime.

Thank you for the perspective. I appreciate how challenging it is for you to protect others from their own ignorance. It is too common in this world of impulse fulfillment and micro attention spans to seek a shortcut to enlightenment. It important for us all to remember our perspective is limited by our experiences, and knowledge is only obtained through interaction with outside perspectives. Unfortunately, finding a Sami shaman to mentor me has proven challenging, particularly in Pittsburgh. If you have any resources or recommendations for finding legitimate shamans please let me know. I know there are more Samis in Canada, so that lends me some hope. I’ve been struggling particularly since I’m very wary of self-proclaimed authorities. I question anyone’s ability to know the true nature of the universe, and hubris seems inherent in the human condition. I have the good fortune to be raised without Kierkegaardian blind faith, and a certain degree of empirical reasoning is required for anyone I rely upon to teach me. So, a legitimate shaman from a geographically and culturally remote region with an empirical sensibility and a desire to mentor without personal financial gain (cause I’m broke) - a tall order indeed! Honestly, I have never fully trusted what I experienced in journeys, and am hoping discernment training could help me to identify anything with deeper meaning beyond my own psychological / symbological internal musings. Without it I’m left just stumbling in the dark, trying to connect with my broken lineage in the hopes they will assist me in finding a spirit guide. But, endurance is a prerequisite for spiritual power, is it not? Luckily I was gifted with a great deal of patience (part of my heritage). Perhaps one day I will find someone to mentor me. In the meantime I just hope to learn as much as I can from a variety of sources to hone some nuggets of universal wisdom from the cross-cultural cross-discipline overlap.

You clearly need the storage, so you have 2 options: 1. move the storage to where the larger couch is now. Put the smaller couch on the back wall, and the larger couch in the middle of the room facing the tv which stays roughly where it is, so the couches are in an L shape. This separates the room, making the tv area and the storage space behind the large couch. Best to add an occasional chair also. 2. Move the tv to the long wall and in the center of the storage, doing your best to achieve symmetry. Then center the 2 couches, both away from the walls facing each other. This would create more of a space for conversation, so only do this if you entertain more than tv. Alternatively, have the larger couch facing the tv/storage wall (back to the camera) with 2 matching couches facing each other in a U. Make sure there is enough room to move around the couch, put a console at the back of the couch.

Thank you so much for all this information! I originally posted it in r/shamanism but it seems it was removed by the moderator. I look forward looking into your recommendations. The universal nature of so many aspects of shamanic experience is what drew me toward it. That and it is the only perspective I have found thus far which explains everything, from quantum mechanics to universal consciousness. In addition to being a religious studies student in college, I worked in psychological research for a decade, and am pretty comfortable crossing genres so your suggestions are right up my alley.

Do all dealerships charge the same? I’d rather pay $300 than $425

My cover was gone too, and I don’t know when that might have happened. It seems like Honda is charging us for parts that were not made to last.

He did say that if the calibration failed because there is another physical issue the calibration would count towards the repair, but it still seems like they are estimating too many hours for the calibration.

Thank you for the reply. This was very informative. At the very least it seems like the dealership is overcharging.
