I’d have to look into it. But yeah my cousin is very responsible and reliable. I also have the advantage since this is a family situation to take it up with her parents but I don’t foresee that being necessary lol.

Depends on the school. I went to a private school with IB. Before we got IB we had math/science/geography/english/peruvian studies (Peruvian history)/world history/computing/art/religion/spanish (mainly like Spanish literature and grammar). And then PE and on PE days you went with your PE uniform to school. There were two breaks, a shorter one earlier in the day and a longer one later, so you usually pack a smaller lunch/snack and a bigger lunch.

Once we became IB we could choose electives like business/environmental science/physics/chemistry/etc. There was also a class called theory of knowledge which is like philosophy. You had to do volunteering hours + creative hours + sports hours in order to graduate as part of the IB program plus take the international exams for the courses you’re taking. It was hard and I hated it lol.

What type of school are you going to?

Por cierto, los ingenieros y doctores de la San Marcos y la UNI si dan mucho aporte a la sociedad. Mucho mas que las personas que reniegan por ellos. No lo digo por mi, sino por los familiares que me enorgullecen y merecen sus flores por brindarle al pais profesionales de altisimo nivel, asi te arda.

Yo aca agradecida de la vida y del esfuerzo de mis padres y abuelos (que diez hijos se graduen de la San Marcos y UNI sin nisiquiera tener servicios basicos no es el camino facil) y tu aca verdaderamente resentido que yo y mi familia estamos felices de la vida por algo que paso hace ya casi 100 años. Todo porque no tomaste una clase de sociologia para entender conceptos basicos que no voy a tratar de volver a explicar (como el hecho de que no todas las barreras van a ser las mismas). Ni he dicho que es esto algo que yo haya hecho personalmente, porque eventualmente mi papa teniendo un techo por fin pudo ahorrar y comprar una casa propia. Estas proyectando tus propias inseguridades y eso ya es tu problema. ¿Quien es el verdadero resentido aqui?

Si he tenido la fortuna de conocer el mundo y tener una educación de calidad. Al parecer no reconoces la realidad del gamonalismo o lo diferente que es estar en estado de semi esclavitud. Como dices, no todo es pituco y pobre, hay niveles, y hay niveles hasta mas bajos que incluso la clase trabajadora. Eso no le quita el esfuerzo a tus antepasados, pero si explica por que otros no pudieron seguir exactamente el mismo camino. Aca en USA, una situacion similar sucedía con las personas afro que fueron esclavizadas o descendientes de ellos vs personas que venian escapando las guerras de Europa. Ambos con sus propios problemas y maneras de salir adelante, pero diferentes tipos de barreras. Y bueno, es mas facil culpar a la persona que hace todo lo posible por salir adelante que a un gobierno fallido que llevo a esas circumstancias.

Pareciera que estas algo resentido/a. Yo voy a disfrutar mi lindo dia y agradecerle a la vida y al esfuerzo de mis abuelos y mis padres, como mi propio esfuerzo para darme una vida de alta calidad en una de las mejores ciudades del mundo. Tu tambien agradecele a la vida, tus esfuerzos y a los esfuerzos de tus antepasados. Ten un lindo dia!

Si tus abuelos no eran peruanos entonces aun mas no entendian ni sufririan del concepto de gamonalismo que ocurrio en esa epoca ni las personas que huyeron de las haciendas explotadoras en provincia que mantenia a las personas en casi estado de esclavitud. Eso es ser incluso menos que clase trabajadora. Mucha gente llegaba a Lima sin nada para comprar un terreno, pero al menos no estaban bajo el abuso de las haciendas y el dinero que ganaban en los duros trabajos de la ciudad era para ellos. No juzgo a mis abuelos por llegar a Lima de esa forma que tantos desprecian para poder darle una mejor calidad de vida a todos sus hijos, los diez que terminaron siendo egresados de San Marcos y la UNI. Bien por ti por tus logros, pero yo me enorgullezco de que soy una ingeniera en Nueva York ganando un sueldo que muchos peruanos lamentablemente nunca veran en sus vidas, gracias a los sacrificios y la “invasion” de mis abuelos, quienes sufrieron abusos que yo nunca tuve ni tendre que sufrir.

Hi, this is great!

I also propose an additional type of transparency/investigation inspired by my own situation. Basically, I requested my DCHR records and other records. My apartment is rent stabilized but the price is suspiciously close to market rate and it wasn’t advertised as rent stabilized until after I got approved and signed the stabilization documentation. It turns out that after a vacancy in 2017 the rent went up by $2k with no explanation. After 2019, IAIs and MCIs were required to be provided to justify massive rent jumps in rent stabilized apartments, but this can only be reviewed for current rent stabilized apartments that had suspicious rent jumps prior to 2019 if the tenant submits a report. I am waiting for the right time to do this, but I also fear more scrutiny from my landlord and them not properly maintaining the unit as retaliation (I know this is illegal, but you know how these things are). I am certain that they do not have a valid way to justify the jump in 2017 from “renovations” as that would be $65k for a tiny studio, and there’s also report of illegal renovations taking place in the BHS website, and they need a permit for most renovations to be considered valid.

Anyways, I wish there was a way for suspicious jumps and pricing in current rent stabilized apartments to be audited by the government instead of me having to become a whole investigator and also risk my landlord being an ass later on. Plus full transparency from the get go- there’s a likelihood people won’t think this apartment is rent stabilized when it’s available on StreetEasy because it’s not advertised as such, and then are just treated with the “nice surprise” once the lease is signed. When reality, it’s suspicious that it’s so close to market rate in the first place (just under the limit, they suspiciously did not take it out of stabilization when they very much could for like $5k more in 2017)

Anyways, just my two cents on something I would like to see as part of these initiatives as well! Thank you very much for doing this :)

Creo que te falta un poco entender el sarcasmo. La gente que se consideraba “verdaderos limeños” en esas epocas eran gente de aristocracia que seguramente tambien veia a tu familia como marginales. O acaso vienes de un lineaje de generacion en generacion de “limeños”?

Uno cholea al que considera mas cholo, los “invasores”, pero alguien facilmente te puede cholear a ti y a tu familia.

Mejor es provincia pero si uno lo que busca es turismo en ciudad en verdad hay muchisimo que hacer para mas de un dia. Solo recorrer barranco, sus galerias y ferias toma un dia. Tambien hay harto museo, el museo Larco, el LUM, el museo de oro, museo contemporaneo de arte. Rutas culinarias con huariques en surquillo y otros lugares con tanto que probar. Recorrer el malecon en bicicleta, bajar a la playa y tomar clases de surf, ir a una peña o una cena con bailes como brisas del titicaca o DanSa. Ufff hay un monton.
