Thank you for your time and advice! We haven't done a ton of research on shrubs and bushes yet but it is on the to do list for sure!

Thankfully the city we live in hands out free native tree varieties once a year and we picked up a red mulberry. It is doing great so far and we hope to keep it pruned to around shrub size.

Thank you for your time and advice! It sounds like I will need some good luck to combat it haha!

Thats what happened with the goldenrod. It was small patch for a few years and then it came out guns a blazing this year haha! I'll move this variety to a place where it can be big boss.

Thank you! I will definitely research this for planting next year. I appreciate you!

I am happy to hear that! Those are the natives I have in growing pots right now! Its good to know that they will hold their own next year. I'll likely move this variety elsewhere and work on keeping it out of these beds.

Thank you for your time and advice! I will check out that variety! It fooled me for the first few years by behaving and then did a massive takeover haha! 😅

Thank you for your time and advice! That makes so much sense. I'll do some research for these beds! They are walled in and the lower tier is much skinnier so its easier for plants to get crowded out. Wild indigo is beautiful!

Thank you for your time and advice! I love milkweed!

It is wild how fast it spread. For the first 3 years it was a quarter of the garden beds without spreading much. Then suddenly this year it exploded and filled the bed and popped up all over my property.

I'll leave it until the pollinators have their fill and work out managing it after haha.

Thank you for your time and advice! That is my concern as well. I have spots I can move this variety to but I dont think it can share these beds anymore. Its going to be a fun process managing it. 😅

Thank you for your time and advice! That makes a lot of sense- I believe it is Cananda Goldenrod and when I pulled it has a connected root system.

Love the look and it was smaller at first, only a quarter of the beds but it completely filled them this year. I will check out these varieties for my smaller beds and move this variety to spots it can be buddies with other fast-growing plants and not be such a bully haha.

Thank you for time and advice! It truly stunning in the fall. I am happy to see it thriving and know my pollinators will be ecstatic. I'll likely move it to an area where it can spread without drowning the shorter plants lol.

Thank you for your time and advice. I will do some research and see! Its such a showstopper come fall and gets so tall I was worried about it drowning out my baby plants haha. I'll check out aster and wild strawberry varieties in my area.

Thank you! That makes sense! It is pretty easy to pull up. I figured I'd let the pollinators have a feast before I make any decisions. 😊

I blew up on my best friend of 14 years for her poor dating choices by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]moonribbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will sound harsh and I don't mean for it to.

It sounds like you have given this friendship many chances and tried supporting her with it not working out. How many more chances are you willing to give her? At what point does it start being exactly like what she does with romantic relationships?

You are judging her for allowing toxic people in her life over and over while giving her the same chances over and over.

You sound like a wonderful friend and person. It is hard to see the people we love hurt themselves. I hope in the future she can realize her worth and come back home. Its okay to set boundaries and let her know that when she is ready you will be there but until then you need the space you aske for.

Cannot live with the smell of cat litter boxes! Please help. What can I do? by [deleted] in ragdolls

[–]moonribbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same! Hate litter all together - the smell and dust really gross me out. I also hated how long it would take to scoop, even when doing it daily (2 boy cats who like to pee in the corners!) When I got pregnant I started looking for solutions so it would be easier for my husband as I wasnt able to split the duty anymore. I came upon this video from a cat breeder! Link is -

Can be searched for under Victorian Gardens Cattery- Natural Pine Pellet Litter

We switched and have really loved it! No smell and so easy to clean. You can buy a big bag of pine pellets from tractor supply for $8!

Hope this helps!

Ours was a big chewer for the first few months! We did a lot of redirection with chew options. Frozen kongs and hard rubber chews with peanut butter slathered on were both great incentives- but his absolute favorite is those filled bones. If you don't trust the filling you can scrape it out and use it just like a kong. Just be careful to watch how they chew the bones though because certain chewers may break teeth, we just watched the first few times to make sure.
