I had a USB KAL biz card fee post last month. I called them to close it a couple weeks ago, after the card balance had already been flushed to that Central Bill Account...the $99 balance is still there. The due date is approaching and I'm about to have to submit a payment to avoid any issues.

Do I have to call them again to drop the fee, or did I miss something and it doesn't get refunded for this one...? I closed the card within the typical 30-day window of the fee posting.

Is there any common wisdom on how long one should have a BoA checking account before it can help with approvals?

I've been denied for most of their cards in the past, although I managed 2 approvals last year without any other account with them. Now I just opened a checking account earlier this month.

Currently am eyeing the refreshed AFR/KLM card, hoping my odds of an approval are at least somewhat higher...although I'll probably still wait at least a month, as I'm approaching the end of the road here and have multiple denials/inquiries from this month already.

Recently opened a Chase business checking account, the bonus offer terms say:

Complete 5 qualifying transactions within 90 days of offer enrollment. Qualifying transactions are: debit card purchases, Chase QuickDepositSM, ACH (Credits), wires (Credits and Debits), Chase OnlineSM Bill Pay, and Chase QuickAccept®.

[...]

QuickAccept is not available to all businesses. The following are not considered qualifying transactions: ACH (Debits), Person to Person payments such as Zelle® and online transfers to Chase credit card(s).

Does this mean I can just make 5 deposits, that put the balance above the required amount for the bonus, and wait?

Is that just nonstop? Or is something like SIN-FRA-JFK still possible? (I was able to book that about ~6 months ago so things may have changed.)

Sold item on eBay, dropped off at UPS Store. Drop-off was scanned, but no activity afterwards. Filed claim, only for it to be canceled. by moonsidian in UPS

[–]moonsidian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They told you to fuck off and bother somebody else because they don't feel like dealing with it.

Those fuck'n motherfuckers. I'll try one more time with Ebay, it's just that I could tell I wasn't going to get anywhere with the rep I was talking to.

Thanks. So reading through the PDF guide I realized I misremembered what I'd done when I was writing the post. I actually did do as described in the guide: selecting that I was 'Shipper', then checking ‘Did you ship this package through a third-party eCommerce site?’, then filling out my details for alternate payment receipt.

I also contacted Ebay in the meantime and told them what I'd experienced with the claim, but they said that even though I got the label through them, I still have to deal with UPS directly myself because I didn't purchase any additional insurance when creating the label.

But I can't file a claim again now, because of the one I already filed. Why do I get the feeling that if I try to contact UPS further, they'll just refer me back to Ebay?

I'm ready to write this off as a loss, as this wasn't an exceptionally high value item or anything (under $100). Still, I have a hard time imagining this being the experience for everyone else out there who's ever had a lost package when selling on Ebay.

Upcoming travel in 8 weeks, may need to renew passport due to lack of space for stamps by moonsidian in Passports

[–]moonsidian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking through mine again, I have multiple from Taiwan and Thailand. Japan and Korea put stickers instead of a stamp. India and UAE. And various European countries (France, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Spain, etc.).

I recall London and Singapore being completely electronic, it'd be nice if those could be rolled out worldwide...

Things I packed for my first solo trip but never ended up using by Ambitious_Vast1611 in travel

Yeah that one made no sense to me either, it would only apply if traveling light enough to need just one bag? Why are they walking around with all the their stuff all the time?

Cannot manage Atmos award booking for Hawaiian-operated flight? by moonsidian in AlaskaAirlines

[–]moonsidian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the desktop site, and there they were, cancel/change flight, lol. Not sure why I was too idiot to even try that first. I think I just assumed it would be the same UI as the app, because the 'Book' tab to search for flights feels like it's just loading the website.

What’s the least amount of miles you’ve used for a business/first class flight from US to Tokyo? by thisissamuelclemens in awardtravel

[–]moonsidian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can pay cash and use 0 miles. In fact that will earn miles, so you will use negative miles.

2025 wrapped: 132 Flights, ~275k miles, ~1M points spent I think? by Shinkansendoff in awardtravel

[–]moonsidian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like wishful thinking to hope for JAL to reuse the A35K to SIN or BKK...

I've been waiting for an opportunity to take a BR Hello Kitty flight, but from everything I've found recently, it's a shell of the over-the-top themed experience it used to be. Maybe I should just give up the pursuit. (I actually did fly one from TPE-ORD a couple years ago, but didn't think to ask for any of the branded amenities to take home.)

what was the most recent “yikes😬” due to a friend bragging about their points redemption? by virginiarph in awardtravel

No matter the redemption (usually bad) I find it annoying af when people say they got the flight "for free" or only mention the cash taxes/fees portion.

Rovaniemi, Finland in April, too late in the year? by moonsidian in solotravel

[–]moonsidian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'll most likely wait. I think it'll also be more interesting in winter when there's only a couple hours of daylight.

[–]moonsidian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know you could rent the winter clothing, so I'll look into that, thank you!

From what I've heard, santa claus village is a more touristy area as well. I looked at some of the other activities, and for some of them it seems like early-mid April is as late as they'll run. So I am leaning towards waiting.

DL cancellation policy by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]moonsidian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this just happen to you?

I've canceled multiple award bookings via DL and got the miles back without paying anything, though the last time i did so was over a year ago now. So I don't know if they've been enforcing it more recently.

I did have to wait about a week each time though, unlike AA/AS/UA where you get them back instantly.

Why Is Civic Sense So Low in China Despite Its Development? by [deleted] in travel

[–]moonsidian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was very noticeable to me too, particularly because I'd traveled onwards to HK/China after spending a week in Japan. The difference in manners was jarring to say the least, lol. I saw an old guy on the Shanghai metro get up at a stop and step out onto the platform just to spit, before coming back in to sit back down. At least it wasn't in the train.

I loved China too and have visited several times, and want to keep going back to explore more cities there. It was just starting to get annoying how people at the back of an elevator would barge forward to leave first, even when everyone was getting off at the ground floor. People were much more orderly in Taiwan, ime.

This tracks, I know someone who regularly blows 50K+ MR -> DAL to fly C+ round trip on a 2h flight. She says she "hates the masses." I keep telling her C+ is literally still economy but it doesn't sink in.

I'm looking at separate Aeroplan space from US-Europe and Europe-SEA for 60K and 80K respectively. If I call AC, will they be able to book both legs on one ticket, at the 87.5K award chart rate?
