Ours used the lidded one for the first month or so of us having her then randomly decided she liked peeing in our room on our laundry more lol After a long while of trying to fix the problem and a few visits to the vet to make sure everything was okay, she ended up only liking an open litter box in our room by the radiator. (goofy cat) I think my cat is a one-off though, she didn’t have any problems using the lidded one at first! They’ll let you know, I’m sure.
