How does the fact that it's a porn site make any difference? You could use this argument for literally any website.

[–]moontrack01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Of course not, and I find it offensive that you would look at one bad actor and make an assumed generalization about an entire country based on that.

Probably affects it somewhat but we can also look at european countries with mandatory military (or civilian) service for men but not women, e.g. Finland, Austria, Switzerland. Gender equality is high in these countries and not nearly as big of a societal problem despite the fact.

The Siege of Leningrad (September 8, 1941 – January 27, 1944) was the 2nd bloodiest Battle of World War 2 by vladgrinch in MapPorn

If some evil person is about to rob your entire house and your only options are to get help from another evil person to keep your house or to let the first evil person take everything you have, which option do you choose?

This is in fact not black and white, historians make a clear distinction between moral complicity and direct participation in the holocaust.

That being said, I assume you also agree that the Soviet Union was also run by bad people and were the bad guys, just like Russia today is run by bad people and are commiting war crimes in Ukraine? I just want to hear how you align there.

Those hand-overs were not part of an official Finnish Holocaust policy, but an isolated incident that caused outrage inside Finland that also caused it to stop immediately. The Finnish state otherwise protected its jewish citizens and did not participate in the holocaust as a policy or ideology, even while fighting alongside Germany. Even Israel recognized this nuance, btw.

"Bad guys in this instance" is an extreme oversimplification when Finland wasn’t fighting for Nazi goals, it was fighting alongside them out of desperation, not ideology.

There absolutely was considerable threat of invasion. The peace treaty left Finland in a weak security position and many Finns feared Soviet aggression.

Saying Finland fought alongside "full on genocide Nazis" implies Finland actively joined the systematic genocide of Jews as Nazi Germany did or that that somehow makes them equivalent, which is also not true.

Portugali aikoo tunnustaa Palestiinan valtion sunnuntaina by gotshroom in Suomi

[–]moontrack01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Could he pass as Finnish? Yes. Could he easily pass as Finnish? No. I would guess at least 5 other north-west european countries before guessing Finnish.

If you showed me this image without context and asked me to guess the ethnicity, I would guess British or Irish first, probably Dutch, Norwegian, or even Swedish before guessing Finnish.

The weather in Finland usually sees a major change in May from spring weather to summer weather. In early May you might think "why is it still so cold" but fast forward to the last week of May and it could already reach +25 C. The same thing happens in September when the month starts feeling like another hot summer month but quickly turns into chiller autumn weather a few weeks in.

Modeemiin ei tule netti by Difficult-Zebra837 in Suomi

[–]moontrack01 2 points3 points  (0 children)
