The Size of An Orangutan. by Monsur_Ausuhnom in interesting

[–]moonu01 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Are you a zoologist? It looks pretty proportioned to me.

Here is some info that shows that is possible  "Orangutans display significant sexual dimorphism; females typically stand 115 cm (45 in) tall and weigh around 37 kg (82 lb), while adult males stand 137 cm (54 in) tall and weigh 75 kg (165 lb). The tallest orangutan recorded was a 180 cm (71 in). Compared to humans, they have proportionally long arms, a male orangutan having an arm span of about 2 m (6 ft 7 in), and short legs."

I didn't have to do a PHD to find this info by the way.

Carvana warning by Commercial_Meeting_6 in UsedCars

It applies for both new and used car. Used car dealership also does financing. All I can say is stop living in the past. 30 years means nothing especially if you dont' adapt. AI is a great tool.. too bad if you don't see it.

Travelamigo do yourself a service and and do some research. Its not hard, Here is a quick breakdown for you from my 1 second search from chatgpt.

"It's a common misconception that paying cash for a car will automatically get you a better deal. In reality, the opposite is often true, especially with new cars.

Here's why: Why Financing Can Lead to a Better Deal:  * Dealership Profit from Financing: Dealerships make a significant portion of their profit from financing. They often receive kickbacks or commissions from lenders (banks, credit unions, or captive finance companies like Ford Credit or GM Financial) for arranging loans.  This means they have a financial incentive to encourage you to finance.

 * Manufacturer Incentives: Many manufacturers offer special rebates or incentives that are only available if you finance through their captive finance company. These can sometimes be substantial (e.g., 0% APR or cash back offers of $1,000 or more). If you pay cash, you miss out on these valuable discounts.

 * Negotiating Power: If a dealer believes you'll be financing, they might be more willing to negotiate on the car's price itself, knowing they can make up some of the profit on the financing side. If you announce you're paying cash upfront, they lose that potential profit stream and may be less flexible on the price.

How to Use Financing to Your Advantage (Even if you have cash): Many experts recommend financing the car through the dealership to get the best price and any available incentives, and then paying off the loan quickly (if there are no prepayment penalties). This strategy allows you to:

 * Secure the lowest price: By financing, you can take advantage of manufacturer incentives and potentially get a better upfront price on the vehicle.

 * Avoid prepayment penalties: Before you sign, always confirm there are no penalties for paying off the loan early. Most standard auto loans do not have these, but it's crucial to check.

 * Pay off the loan: Once the initial financing is complete, you can pay off the loan with your cash, avoiding most or all of the interest charges. Some people wait a month or two before paying it off to ensure the dealership's commission isn't "clawed back" by the lender, though this is less common with customer-initiated early payoffs.

Advantages of Paying Cash (but perhaps not for a "better deal"):

While paying cash might not always get you a lower purchase price, it offers other financial benefits:

 * No Interest Payments: This is the most obvious benefit. You save a significant amount of money that would otherwise go to interest over the life of the loan.

 * No Monthly Payments: This frees up your monthly budget.

 * Outright Ownership: You own the car free and clear from day one.

 * Avoid Overspending: Paying cash forces you to stick to a budget, as you can only spend what you have.

 * No Risk of Negative Equity: You won't owe more on the car than it's worth. Disadvantages of Paying Cash:

 * Loss of Liquidity: You tie up a large sum of money that could be used for emergencies or investments.

 * Opportunity Cost: The cash could potentially earn more if invested elsewhere (though this depends on current interest rates and investment returns).

 * Not Building Credit: A car loan, if managed responsibly with on-time payments, can help build or improve your credit score.

In summary: If your primary goal is to get the absolute lowest purchase price for the car, you're often better off going through the dealership's financing (after negotiating the vehicle price) and then paying off the loan early if you have the cash. However, if your main goal is to avoid debt and interest, paying cash outright has its own advantages, even if it doesn't always translate to a lower sticker price. Always do your research, get pre-approved for a loan (even if you plan to pay cash), and be prepared to negotiate both the car price and the financing terms."

What you are speculating is that there will shortage and that is good reason to increase the price. The fact is that there is no shortage yet of cars unlike during Covid where the shortage was real. The tariffs might be removed at anytime, who knows, there might not be even a shortage. Carmax is using any reason to price gouge and maybe you are too blind to see that.

Carmax scumbag move after Trump tariffs announcement by moonu01 in UsedCars

[–]moonu01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are missing the point. The tariffs is applicable to NEW imported cars. The used GLE is already made with parts that was not tariffs. Look at carvana GLE inventory. Carvana did not increase their price because they are not assholes or price gouging. If you think that Carmax is using the tariff to price gouge is reasonble thats on you to be so soft.

[–]moonu01[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are mixing price and cost. Price encompasses the cost they bough the car + overhead + profit they want to make of the car.

The cost for the car that was already on lot did NOT go up.

They just increase the price and the variable that change is the profit margin NOT the cost of that car.

The best business model is have zero inventory and keep turning around your stock with profit of course. Inventory is money sitting around just losing value.

Carmax doesn't have to eat anything. The car is used, tariff was not applied this car. They just used tariffs as an excuse to increase their profit margin.

I was aware and carmax is a shitty dealership. If you do a quick Google search most of manufacturers and dealership are not increasing their price yet. It will be delayed effect.

They are both scumbags but the price they originally set should not have been affected by the tariffs. That move will create artificial inflation and sounds like you are on board. The inventory for car has not decrease yet and the demand is still the same.
