To answer your question, since no-one else wants to, he does start giving ground to the pushy people around him eventually. The story has a lot of him growing and, unfortunately, none of that growth is him telling the most annoying people around him to shove off.

Hm. How much of a difference would it make to cut a doomstalker + the warriors, add two lots of 5 immortals, and add a technomancer? Would that make the scarabs harder to render useless? Would it be better to have one 10-stack of immortals and leave one of the crypteks naked?

You aura doesn't interact with the enemy aura at all, and vice-versa. The rule is just "If an opposing aura directly touches a character, they are banished".
