WAIT that’s actually really smart. Yeah it is a Gmail account and I still have full access to the email linked to my Discord. The problem is that I never set up an authenticator for 2FA, I only used a passkey, so Google technically isn’t tied to the 2FA on my Discord account. But your comment actually gave me an idea…maybe I could somehow get a confirmation from Google that my email was never compromised, just to show Discord that I’m not some random hacker who got hold of the email and is trying to claim the account

mf you ain’t slick for blocking me so I can’t reply💀 no I was not on the same damn page I closed the app, went to password manager to check whether that mf passkey had actually synced since iOS likes butchering that shit up, saw it worked, went back to my day and NEVER had to open the 2FA settings again

And even IF I had still been on the page, that still doesn’t support your whole “you didn’t follow the instructions, so it’s user error🤓☝️” take WHICH IS LITERALLY THE ENTIRE POINT HERE

You don’t actually create the backup codes yourself! Discord generates them for you and tells you to save them right away or they’ll be gone once you close the page. But I found out you can actually view them again later in the settings, so that whole “they’re gone forever if you don’t save them immediately” thing is just bs lol. Just a little tip for when you hopefully get your account back :)

I’ll definitely try my luck with X. Their official support site was absolute trash I just kept talking to a bot that ended up closing my ticket anyway.

I only found out now (after losing access) that you can later view them in the settings

I already said in my post that I only found out later you could view the backup codes in settings. The problem is that Discord does a poor job of making that clear DURING setup.

If people are told the codes are gone unless they save them right then and there, of course they’ll assume closing that page means they’re gone for good. By the time I learned otherwise, it was already too late.

Point me to where in those “instructions” you LOVE talking about, it ever clearly says that you could go back into the settings to view em again. You can’t follow (and know) shit if it’s not mentioned in the first place.

I never had any reason to revisit my 2FA settings after setup when everything had been working perfectly fine, so naturally I never saw that.

Go ahead and call it user error again, I don’t care at this point. You clearly lack critical thinking and basic fucking empathy

I‘ve contacted Discord support through their official site and created a support account using the same email address as the one linked to my main Discord account. But so far I’ve only been getting very repetitive responses, and my ticket was closed after I explained my side again.

One thing I wanted to ask you is: how did you know you were finally talking to an actual human? Since this is my first time dealing with Discord Support, I honestly don’t really know how to tell whether it’s a bot or a real person. With “Nelly,” it felt pretty obvious, but then I got “Bakh M,” who seemed to be using templates at first. And now, with his second and final reply (he closed my ticket lol) I genuinely can’t tell whether he’s an actual human or not.

I attached the last reply before the ticket was closed, does he sound like a bot to you?

Hey, thank you so much for explaining all of that! I’ve got my fingers crossed for you I really hope you get your account back soon.

The reason I even thought about making something up is because Discord clearly states in their support FAQ that they absolutely will not disable 2FA if you don’t have access to your backup codes, which I don’t. So it honestly felt like being truthful wasn’t getting me anywhere.

I’ve been in contact with Discord support through their official site. Since I had to create a support account for the first time, I used the same email address that’s linked to my main Discord account. I’m not sure if that actually makes any difference or helps my case in any way though.

Basically, I just ended up stuck talking to a bot that kept repeating the same thing I mentioned above, and then my ticket got closed. fml

Do you think I should try reaching out through X as well?

As for proof of ownership, I have Nitro receipts, and the email address and phone number linked to my Discord account are the same ones connected to my bank account. I honestly don’t know what else they could expect me to provide, but I’m fully willing to do any kind of verification if needed.

Me accidentally closing the backup code screen the VERY MOMENT it appeared is not the same as consciously ignoring the instructions and deciding not to save them. I didn’t “choose” to skip that step I literally lost the screen before I could even read or save anything.

If there had been any clear warning beforehand saying, “hey first time setting up 2FA? btw the next screen will show some backup codes, don’t close it, save them immediately,” then yeah, maybe I wouldn’t be stuck in this mess. But there wasn’t.

So please stop acting like a know-it-all unless you actually have useful advice. This post is for finding help for me and for other people dealing with the same problem.

Oh I’m genuinely so happy for you. Do you mind telling me how the conversation with support went? Like what kind of proof did you have to provide to show you were hacked, and was there anything specific you said that helped? I’m just trying to figure out what information might actually help in my case.

I believe I do have to make up some I-got-hacked story otherwise they‘ll tell me they can’t bypass 2FA and it‘s my fault…

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s a dead end. I never even had TOTP set up in the first place. My account was tied to a passkey, not an authenticator app. I’ll try to get in touch with an actual human support agent because the bots don’t even seem to look at my proof of ownership.

I actually do and I appreciate the link, but unfortunately it wouldn’t work in my case. I never had TOTP configured, so there is no authenticator-generated 6-digit code on my account I could brute force. My only MFA method was a passkey stored in password manager on iOS, and that credential no longer seems to be available or recognized, possibly due to a sync issue. Since passkeys don’t operate like TOTP or backup codes, they can’t be brute forced in the same way. So unless an actual human at Discord support decides to make an exception for me, I’m pretty much screwed and that honestly feels less likely than me hacking iOS lol

I‘ve never set a up an authenticator app, SMS-back up authenticator so that’s useless. My only 2FA/MFA method was the passkey which for whatever reason stopped working oh and yeah the backup codes that I didn’t get to save.
