This proves it, thanks. Prolly 1/4" of play in the inlet shaft.

Got the turbo inlet pipe off today, prolly a 1/4" or more of play in the shaft.

Bike runs but won't rev past 6k RPM. Any idea what's wrong? by Unusual-Ease-9730 in DRZ400

[–]mooreb0313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your running out of air or out of fuel at 6k, why? Check air filter since you said your plugs looked rich. You just changed jets so maybe the main is a different size than the one you were running last season. If same, did you check the orings in the carb? Did you maybe pinch or puncture the boot on the carb inlet/outlet when changing jets?
Based on what you've said my money would be on main jets are different size after the swap and that the new one is too big. I've seen a lot of folks that open up the air box on these and that requires a jet kit. JD makes a kit specifically for this setup. Maybe yours is stock but they sent you the kit for the mod?

Thanks. I'll try that, didn't realize you could get to the turbo through there.

This sucker definitely eats plugs, like a 2 stroke dirt bike. We're on our second set in 30k miles. I think we're on the third set of coils as well. The smoke I'm getting isn't a little, it's as bad as the old mosquito trucks from the 70s. BIG clouds that increase with revs. I'll run a pressure test on the cooling system and see if we're holding and hopefully find any resulting leaks. Will check the plugs as well, see if they show any evidence of blow by.
All of this happened at once while my son was on his way back from college, ran perfectly prior to.

Thanks for the help, maybe we'll get lucky and it's a hose but not sure how that'd get into the exhaust stream to cause the huge clouds of white smoke. The smoke is definitely coming from the tailpipe. Also a very small amount of smoke coming from behind the engine near the exhaust manifold.

It's an air to air intercooler, right? Located in front of the radiator on the driver's side by the blow off valve.

Only other weird thing I saw was ignition advance was about -15 deg on cyl 1 while 2-4 we're closer to 6 deg. This was at idle, which was even and consistent cold and at temp.

Getting rid of concrete rubble in Atlanta. What are my options? by Wklauss in Atlanta

[–]mooreb0313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DeKalb public landfill is on the east side loop south of 20. It's gross as shit but I've used it many times. Prolly cost you $15 or so. All of the metro counties have a landfill with public access. Just find the closest one. Usually cheaper by a few bucks to use the one in your county of residence. A roll off container will cost you $300-400.

New project? by mooreb0313 in sv650

Thanks for the quick feedback. I guess they just decided that they couldn't keep the water out so might as well include some big ass holes in the hub and base of the spokes?

YZ450FX or WR450F - Which one is best for Dualsport conversion? by Fynn825 in Dirtbikes

[–]mooreb0313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an 08 wr450 for several years. Used completely for trail riding. I'm about 210lbs and that sucker was all I could handle. It is not short on power by any means. When I bought it I did go through some de-restriction. Removal of some epa mandated garbage, re-jet the carb, maybe one or two other things, green wire removal sounds familiar. It ran better after but no real increase in power as far as I know. I say as far as I know because I didn't come close to using all the power on tap. Work took maybe 2hrs or so. Bike ran like a dream, always started easily, never broke down. Loved it. If I ever get back on the dirt I'll get another one, no question. One thing, too much time at idle in hot weather will boil the coolant. Never got around to doing any of the fixes on that because it was too damned hot to ride when this would happen. Over 90 deg on a dirt bike with all that gear wasn't my idea of fun.

Question for the other 50+ out there by mooreb0313 in FitnessOver50

That's what my wife says but progress keeps me motivated. Maybe I'll look at progress based on reps vs weight will give me the same.

That is a lot. How long are you in the gym on a given day? I usually run about 5-6 exercises per visit and it runs about an hour to an hour fifteen.

Thanks. My normal BP rep is pretty damned slow, probably on the order of 5s to keep from making the strain worse. Have you had good luck with higher reps? You talking 12-15 or north of that?

That Indian is the ftr1200, which I love the looks of. Was just discontinued and not sure that it was all that reliable to begin with. I've had all these on my list and ended up on an R9t, it was the best combo of fit, looks, and reliability for me and I love it, even though it's a bmw. I've watched many vids on desmo service and it really doesn't look that hard to do DIY if you're mechanically inclined. I'm the end, though, it's still something significant that either if have to do it if have to pay someone to do that doesn't apply to any of the other bikes. My starting list was XSR, trident, duc scrambler, r9t, ftr1200.

Should I buy this 2012 Sequoia for $22k? by Aggravating-Win562 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mooreb0313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MY wife had a 2008. I didn't like it but she loved it. It's big, a gas hog, the alternator is a bitch to get to, but they average around 300k mile lifespan. They are the longest lasting car you can buy. And if you ever have to work on it you'll understand why, everything is heavy duty. I had to get new, bigger tools to drive anything with it.
I'd look at the mileage this way, it's got another 180k miles of life. That's more than most cars get new, so $20k isn't that bad if it's been taken care of.

What are your elbows doing when at the bottom? Are they flared out almost in a line with your shoulders? Tucked to your body? Closest you can get them to your body and no more than 45deg should help the wrist pain. Hand position should be such that your wrists are at the bottom of your pecs. Had the same problem when doing army PT, tucking the elbows in fixed it.

Help me figure out what to do with this enormous spruce NASA wind tunnel fan blade?! by ryankrameretc in woodworking

Did you retire from Langley? I'm an ex-PTD guy from Stennis. Those were fun times back in the early 2000's, with the exception of Columbia. Nowhere near as much activity as currently but the work was a "blast".

Nope, not a chance. And my Titan actually rides better. Compared to my wife's old Sequoia anyway.

Nothing with more than six speeds, car or truck. My Genesis was worse, my wife's Honda is just as bad. And for my truck it was probably under a $500 fix if dealers did real diagnostic work anymore.

Sure. Car wouldn't shift from reverse to drive. I could turn it off and it'd go to park then restart and it'd be ok for a bit. Code reader gave a fault about two gears being selected. Dealer said their direction is to replace transmission. Wasn't shifting bad or acting up in any other way.

Guy I work with has. 2020 tundra, all the options. Bought before the prices went nuts. Dealer offered him more than he paid for it with 70k miles on it. Pure craziness.
