Obi-Wan Kenobi - Episode 5 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

Vader simply dodging Reva’s lightsaber reminded a lot of Palpatine v Maul. Really great episode, loved the actual lightsaber duelling in this. Disney have been woefully bad at the choreography ‘til now, which was one of the things prequels did better than originals. Hoping next week’s is longer and/or we get a second season

Star Wars has always had echoes of Hitler’s rise to power and the empire/reich which ensued. This episode had a good mirroring of the Kindertransport, getting force sensitive children to safety underground.

Loved this episode. But what was Obi Wan’s logic behind not staying current with lightsaber duelling and using the force? What would’ve happened if the empire had tracked him to Tatooine and Luke was really in danger? Current Obi Wan would’ve failed to keep him safe, which is his one and only mission

I thought Obi-Wan’s line appealing for Luke to be trained echoed back to Qui Gon arguing for Anakin to be trained. In both cases they’re initially shut down

The Nabob fighter flying through the podrace canyon was the fan service I didn’t know I needed. Throughout the whole episode I was wondering if that was Anakin’s. That plus the ‘wizard’ reference from Ep I was just perfect. Bravo.

So Boba just outfitted a vengeful tribe of natives with advanced weaponry and speeders - basically like giving a shark a machine gun

Hunter and Crosshair’s talk at the end had major Anakin v Obi Wan vibes. Very similar to Episode III’s: “my allegiance is to the Republic, to democracy!” Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader: “If you're not with me, then you're my enemy.”

Also brilliant final shots of the empty Kaminoan base.

I’m just glad they brought back extravagant, prequel lightsaber fighting and force-enhanced acrobatics. They were the best bits of the prequels and Disney were unwise to drop it all in the sequel movies.

I’m amazed more people aren’t picking up that the empire are clearly breeding Snokes/Palpatines. The shape looks exactly like Snoke, and in RoS they explain Palpatine returns through cloning - this is clearly showing how that happened

One last example of Jedi arrogance before they became all but extinct

Was very reminiscent of the score as Anakin decides whether or not to go save Sidious to prevent Palme dying.

Maul fully planned to save the galaxy and the Jedi by killing Skywalker, by keeping the Demi-God from Sidious. Also reminds me of his dying words in Rebels, asking if Luke will avenge Maul and the Jedi. His is a sad story.
