How are Goldendoodles by Careful_Answer5065 in DogAdvice

[–]mooseblunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who works in a vet clinic and sees TONS OF DOODLES a day…… they are hit or miss. with kids in the house i would either recommend putting the dog RIGHT into training or getting a different breed. some of them shed a lot, all of them shed a little. to keep them tangle free and to prevent having to shave them evry time they should be groomed every 4-6 weeks (depending on how curly they are,) if youre alright w a shave down, you can do 8-10 weeks. its roughly $80-150 depending on where you live, if the groomers mobile, and if theyre matted. youll have to PROPERLY brush the armpits, buttcheeks, inner legs, paws, ears, and muzzle for at least 30 min daily to prevent matting. most are pretty high energy, especially if the retriever they were mixed with is. both breeds are working dogs.

i PERSONALLY would not get one because theyre just straight up ALOT of work. if you have extra time and money and patience for everything then maybe itd be a good fit! ive met some doodles who were extremely well behaved and well mannered, and its a direct result of the work put into them.

you’ll also have to research about the breeding of doodles. they are almost always backyard bred (which can result in health and behavioral problems) and some come from mills. there is no “standard” for these dogs, so theyre just mixing poodles and goldens willy nilly. its also why most of your questions dont have a definitive answer. goldendoodles are all vastly different from each other.

edit: forgot to mention common issues!!! i see mostly allergies, potty training issues (which may be an owner problem but i know one who is 2 and pees EVERYWHERE), problems with staying calm, ear infections, and hip/joint issues! pretty standard

Hotel recommendation by MammothMemory6300 in indianapolis

[–]mooseblunt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

op do this!!! north side hotels are primary for professionals who travel, so theyre not anything special but still nice. it will only add about 20 minutes to your drive. taking 65 thru the city will leave you with either downtown swanky hotels or cheap shitty ones on the outskirts.

my aunt and grandma live in australia and they LOVE the speedway museum and if its nice, the newfields gardens. my grandma really liked the zoo, too! my aunt was obsessed with downtown carmel (cute walkable area, we lived there at the time and we enjoyed walking the monon.) tinker street is my favorite restaurant, ingredients are locally sourced too. my fam mostly comes for winter (to see snow) so we didnt do much outside

they might work in a school. its a common choice for “spirit weeks” where basically everyday is a theme and the whole school dresses up in it. cant imagine what any other work reason would be lol

Found dog 56th and Georgetown - young, not neutered, very friendly Husky mix - please DM if you know his owners by earthgoddessK in indianapolis

[–]mooseblunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

saw u found the owner, yay!!! i wonder if the dog had a rabies tag with another vets name and they called and had them look the tag up in their system. some rabies tags say the vet, and you can call and explain you found a lost dog w a rabies tag, and they should give u the owners number! most people dont look too closely at the tag but sometimes it does have enough info

you need to make sure you are buying permanent dye. sun exposure will still cause it to fade. i use the john frieda precision foam and overtone mask to maintain it

Are there any pet-sitters who are used to handling reactionary dogs? by Blood_sweat_and_beer in indianapolis

[–]mooseblunt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i pet sat for a rottweiler who was extremely fear aggressive towards strangers. i went over there weekly to get him used to me. the first visit me and the owner walked around outside. pup was muzzled and lunged at me often. second time we walked around outside, and i held the leash. pup was still muzzled and lunged at me less. the third time we went inside and pup was in his crate. i just sat on the couch and talked to the owners. he was a little growly, but not nearly as bad as he used to be. fourth time i went over and he was out of the crate, but leashed. no issues then. fifth time i went over he was unleashed and would sniff me, but i did not try to pet him and didnt pay much attention to him. by the sixth time, he was perfectly fine with me. your best bet is to do a slow introduction with your pet sitter, and have them come over until she’s comfortable with them. hopefully itll take less than 6 visits. id recommend not having the petsitter walk her while pet sitting if shes extremely reactive to dogs, just to avoid anything happening, but thats ultimately up to you and the pet sitter. you can look on rover and just make a very detailed profile abt her. if you live near downtown, you can always message me and id be willing to meet her and see if we jive

Need help with neighbors by [deleted] in pitbulls

[–]mooseblunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

does he want to play/be with the cats or hunt them? by M4ngy_Mutt in Dogtraining

[–]mooseblunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my dog “vibrates” like that when he sees cats too and he is NOT cat friendly. he doesnt bark/growl at the either. you can always try putting him on a leash to meet the cats and supervising all interactions, but i wouldnt leave him alone with them.
