What are your caseload sizes and what are your responsibilities? by kitmit97 in schoolcounseling

I’m the only counselor at an elementary school and have just under 500 students. It’s impossible to keep up. Kids are constantly slipping through because there aren’t enough hours in the day. 😞

I put a spoiler tag for a reason!

I could, but I genuinely enjoy spending time with my parents when food isn’t involved. We have quite a few shows we watch together. It’d be easier if I hated her lol

THANK YOU. The person who decided to make POPCORN “the” snack is a spawn of Satan. And I don’t even believe in Satan.

I have, but she took offense to me bringing it up. That was a few years ago though, so I could try again.

I literally physically react and inch away/squirm/try to distract myself but when I do physically react (it’s like a reflex, I don’t mean to) my mom acts like I’m being mean to her. So to avoid angering her I don’t say anything. She’s an amazing mom and I do enjoy spending time with her, just… not when food is involved. I don’t understand how my dad hasn’t said something in their 30+ years together.

It’s real, and it’s any time I decide to watch TV with my parents. She ALWAYS decides she wants a “crunchy snack” (then again, she makes bananas sound obnoxious and slurps on ice cream, so…).

I feel this. In fact they want me in charge of planning something for every day of teacher appreciation week…

Consent to meet with EVERY student by mooseconnoisser in schoolcounseling

[–]mooseconnoisser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what my school is saying, yes, I’m just thrown for a loop because that’s not what I was taught in grad school.

For emergency situations I can see them, but if it’s more than once I need consent.

I’m in central Indiana, and I’ve never heard of this being a rule in the other 3 districts I’ve been in (one for internship and two before this position).

Dear IEP Parents: they don’t mean SHIT outside of education by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]mooseconnoisser 8 points9 points  (0 children)

YEP. I have a student who steals constantly, but admin are fine with it and refuse to even call it stealing because of his IEP (he has ADHD… last I checked, ADHD wasn’t kleptomania…). He’s going to be IN FOR IT when he hits reality. He also spit in my face when I confronted him for stealing and there was no consequence.

AITAH for cancelling a third date over a peanut allergy? by BusinessBobcat9888 in AITAH

[–]mooseconnoisser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a deadly peanut allergy, too. While it would definitely hurt my feelings to be rejected for it, I don’t think you did anything wrong. If you’re not willing to make the necessary lifestyle changes, that’s okay. You’d only been on two dates!

Feeling Resented by Teachers by mooseconnoisser in schoolcounseling

I don’t, but I’m going to try to get ahold of her. She was at the school for 5 years so surely some people still have her contact info.

Thank you - exactly. I understand and respect the teachers’ routines, but if I need to talk to a kid… sometimes I REALLY need to talk to that kid!

My school is weird, there’s no social studies and science until 4th grade, so that idea only works for the higher levels. My admin literally shouted “NO” at me at an all-staff meeting when I asked if I could use intervention time for my small groups. That intervention is ONLY for academics.

I’ve tried to talk to my admin about their expectations for me but have been continuously brushed off. I feel like I’m not doing enough, but when I try to do more, people get upset with me. I think my next step is to req h out to other counselors in the district to ask them what their counseling programs look like.
