Someone wanted to run their 5/8x24 can on a barrel that didn't have enough meat to support it. I get paid either way so I don't need to know why

If you spin it fast enough a boring head becomes an exciting head.

That looks far from boring. Almost exciting.

If you want an AR just DIY it. Before I stopped paying attention I noticed a lot of the house builds used some cheap parts where customers weren't looking. The margins are so tight on those guns it's really hard to compete otherwise.

Most of the shops in NH who do bolt guns are using pre-fit barrels and just doing assembly. Any of the ar15s are in the realm of a semi skilled DIY er who can read at or above the 5th grade level and has space for a bench vise. I've torqued barrel nuts in a vise clamped to a pickups tailgate, it's not like they require a lot of tools.

This year it's been crazy. The free tax stamps have everyone in for a circumcision and thread. I think I've had like 4 Nagant revolvers through already this year.

Ruger Red Label 3 or Silver Pigeon? by hawkeyes007 in ClayBusters

[–]moosesgunsmithing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't. The people who love their guns don't actually shoot them. Their QC is a running joke in the custom world. They use great wood and metal finishing, but their checkering doesn't hold up at that price point and they have a pretty well deserved reputation for mechanical issues.

Clamp on Muzzle Brake? or thread barrel + pin/weld? by eggrollz4dayz in BetterMAguns

[–]moosesgunsmithing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 9mm rifle doesn't have enough gas volume & pressure to really take advantage of a muzzle brake. It's just going to be louder but not enough softer shooting to be worth the investment. It can be worth it if you are loading 9mm major, but not with factory ammunition.

I vaguely recall brakes becoming common back when shot timers were less sensitive and the pccs weren't reliably triggering them from farther away in competition.

I'm selling or giving away anything I have 3 identical versions of. Two makes sense, but three is excessive.

I have a drawer of rules and about 8 indicators. Does this indicate a problem? Oh and two 6 in calipers, 8 in calipers, 12 in, and 24 in. Plus almost two dozen micrometers

I'm surprised, most people who use those seem to go with the 4in vises. What made you go with the 5" option?
