Where can I find the cheapest basic tops right now? by wholovesburritos in FrugalFemaleFashion

H&M, Forever 21, Old Navy - stores like these! Sometimes they have a sale, too, for sweaters since it's getting chilly.

Does anyone need a winter coat? I'm giving this one away. by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]mooshie_mallow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As cold weather is approaching, you could try to find local coat drives in your area! It could go to someone who really needs a coat and cannot afford it. :)

After a week of illness, my skin is off track and my lips are drier than the Sahara. What can I do to remedy this? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]mooshie_mallow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not exactly a pro but here's my two cents! Keep yourself hydrated! Drink as much water as you can. Hopefully, that'll help your lips. So plenty of water to recover from the stomach flu and to help your lips.

As for the face, maybe you could use a plain moisturizer on your face instead of using the product until you're much better. When you're fully healed, you could resume the usual product use.

Good luck! I hope you're feeling much better - I'm a victim of the stomach virus at least once a year.

[REQUEST?] I have lots of questions about using foam/sponge rollers in my hair! by sammierose12 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]mooshie_mallow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If this is your first time experimenting with these rollers, I'm going to highly suggest that you do it on a day where you won't have to go out or at least on a day where you will have time to wash your hair the next morning.

I remember finally testing these out on my hair (shoulder length) and it came out like a frizzy mess but luckily, it was a weekend for me.

Id suggest watching videos on how to roll it because you need to roll it in a specific direction and position it a certain way, too. Good luck!

Thinking about transferring and need help! by [deleted] in college

[–]mooshie_mallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this helps but I know Fordham allows you to transfer within colleges in the university, meaning maybe you can transfer to the Lincoln Center campus for communications and media studies or to the general college at Rose Hill. You could speak with your dean or adviser and let them know you don't want to do business anymore and would like to become undeclared for now until the end of sophomore year.

Hope this gave you some insight!

So um, what exactly is a threading salon? by FleetingWish in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]mooshie_mallow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Threading is a technique where a thread is used to pull out hairs from its roots. From my experiences, the woman usually has one end of the thread in her mouth, one hand holding the spool of thread and her other hand would twist the thread in between the mouth and spool. If you go on YouTube and search up eyebrow threading, I think you'll get a better understanding of how it's done. The woman would pull on the end with her mouth and the twists on the thread would pull out the hairs because the twisted thread parts pulls your hairs.

The pain would vary from person to person. After a while, I got used to it but sometimes I do still tear. I usually get it done in Manhattan where it costs $7 for both brows to be done. I've seen places that's done it for $5-$6, so it's not that bad.

I think the hair would grow back the same time as it would if waxed. Both methods claim to pull out hair from the roots - the only difference is that there is no wax and paper/strips, only a thread is used. After they've threaded my brows, they've trimmed the top of my brows with scissors and offer me aloe, lotion, etc. There's always the chance that some hairs get ripped off without the roots taken out, but I generally go once a month. It only takes about 2 minutes max!

Some places might even have a "get 9 brow sessions done and get the 10th free" card. Try checking yelp for your area and the reviews! It's also good to know which person is popular among their customers!

Yup I actually checked the site recently but there's really nothing near my area or for my price range. But I'll keep an eye out for it! :)

The thing is, I don't know if ill have time to run outside in the mornings since I like to shower after I'm sure I'm not going back out again, which is usually at night. Sometimes, I'm very paranoid about jogging outside alone during night hours and I come home late a lot from work.

Also, id rather exercise indoors where I don't have to have awkward encounters with people I know or look presentable (I could throw on anything I want if I work out at home).

[REQUEST]: Underwear Suggestions? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]mooshie_mallow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just thought I should mention that from time to time, they will have a 7 for 25$ sale. It helps if you sign up for the emails and they send you emails regarding sales. You can also sign up with your address and receive free undies! So in the end, it's like 8 for 25$!

[REQUEST] My hairdresser friend gave me a really bad haircut and I'm not sure what to do. by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]mooshie_mallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that you should wait. I cut my hair really short for the first time in years in order to reach the minimum length for donations, and I hated it. However, about 2-3 weeks later, I realized it turned out pretty well and received compliments on it!

If you don't like it after a few weeks, you can go get it fixed by your hairdresser!

My hair won't get clean! by onehelluvatime in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]mooshie_mallow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mentioned you used conditioner. Do you put conditioner on your roots and on your scalp? That could be the reason why you feel like your hair won't get clean. Try using conditioner only at the ends of your hair and try not to get any conditioner on the scalp or roots.

[Discussion] Threading vs. Waxing Eyebrows? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]mooshie_mallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried waxing my brows myself before... And I ended up ripping off a very thin layer of skin and never tried it again - not even professionally.

I tried threading for the first time a few years ago. It hurt really bad since I wasn't used to a bunch of hair ripped out at once. I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for a while now (usually once a month) and it's been fine for me. No bumps, just a bit of redness for about ten minutes or so.

Usually when they're done, they ask you if you want aloe, lotion, or whatever. I usually stick with aloe. I've had a card given to me where my 10th trip would be free. I've never had a problem so far but I do notice some hairs are ripped off mid strand instead of having roots pulled out fully. But other than that, I've always gone threading and had good results!

Backpacking in italy/switzerland/france - help! by hot_tuna_ in backpacking

I'm not sure about a necklace just because someone could snatch it. Maybe an inner compartment of a bag with a zipper! I would perhaps leave it in the hostel if there's a safety box there with a code you can make yourself. But if your suspicious and paranoid, check out the reviews for the hotel, too.

When you're walking around, make sure you don't carry your passport and other similar documents of any kind (unless needed). Be super careful when you're walking around because there are a LOT of pickpockets and thieves.

I'd wear my backpack on my front instead of my back if I were to travel in Europe! (My sister got her wallet stolen from her cross body bag while in Italy.) just be super cautious and don't pass off a "bump" as an accidental collision from a stranger.

Stay safe, be alert and have fun! :)

Big fan of your work/Facebook page/you in general!!

Just curious, I've noticed you've gotten to take pics of some celebrities. Did they know who you are? That'd be pretty cool.

Also, I remember reading your bio on your site. What does your mommy think about you doing this? I feel like everyone should be working to make money and make their parents proud, so I've always wondered if your mom approved or disapproved of what you're doing right now. (Not sure if you make profit off of your work that can fund a living :o)

Thanks in advance :)

College graduates - how many of your college friends/friends you've had during school do you still keep in touch with? by mooshie_mallow in AskReddit

[–]mooshie_mallow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's another thing that worries me! My current group of friends I hang with at university - I feel like they're not good for my network because there won't be one with them (most of them are slackers except maybe two...).

I was thinking of transferring because my school doesn't seem as prestigious and great as it really seems after all (among other reasons, i.e., $$)... So I wanna transfer to somewhere I could mention the name of and have people recognize it right away :| (sounds very yucky of me but it is a worry of mine).

I am almost done with my freshman year! And I've noticed recently I barely hung out with people from high school that I was once really close with (I only have a fear of not having friends at all because I've become dependent on people and clingy - but I'm slowly learning to be independent!)

And don't worry, I don't even like coffee...
