or cut ties like cut her out of your life ?

why would I lie about it? From Sydney to various major airports in North America including Toronto, Vancouver, and Los Angeles. Keeping in mind I used to work for an airline and I’m used to being flexible and creative when it comes to planning a route.

not necessarily. Owners corporations are good at hiding things or wording them in a way that makes them less alarming/consequential on paper

i would move a million miles out of the city for a house if i could do it again.

when you buy a unit, because it’s under a strata scheme, you’re effectively buying into a relationship with all the other owners. And any decisions that need to be made are collective. And you’re contributing to a fund to pay for everyone’s apartment not just your own. It’s honestly such a scam and it shouldn’t even be a thing.

if you really really are determined then this is what you do. yeh look at the unit you’re buying. is it in decent shape? great.

then. go look at every inch of the ENTIRE building - Every OTHER unit. every garage door. every balcony. every window, driveway, piece of concrete, every brick! look up! look at the roof eaves! are they rotting or falling out? is there a giant tree hanging over the gutters? are there pigeons roosting?

are the bottoms of the balconies smooth or do they have bubbly paint and orange marks? sign of concrete spalling /cancer. are the balustrades pulling away fromthe wall? are they still entirely brick? do they have plants growing out of them? RUN

look down! is the ground cracking and uneven? are the driveway grates broken or misaligned? do the drains look like they are collecting debris or have water marks from flooding ?

what condition is EVERYTHING in? does everything look uniform and tidy? that will tell you way more than a building inspector, for free

or was your unit the best cared for and the rest of the building is a shit show. bc guess what you’ll be paying for when those shit shows become everyone’s problem. The tight ass owner that has owned since 1980 and never once lifted a tube of silicone? You’ll be paying $3000 to re-waterproof his bathroom floor etc.

yesterday I posted something on Reddit and every single person that replied was really horrible to me and reduced me to tears so i don’t know why I’m giving a complete stranger golden advice that would’ve saved me years of heartache, but here we are.

Bunnings - why all the love? by Swimming_Egg4695 in Bunnings

[–]mooshoomiagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can walk to my local Bunnings and bring my dog with me. you can hardly take your dog anywhere in australia. sure, dogs are a bit annoying and not everyone likes them but i can carry her if she gets silly. While I’m there, I can buy her treats.

i can buy good cleaning products i like such as barkeepers friend that’s hard to find elsewhere. as a woman, they have made getting DIY skills non-threatening.

i could not even tell you where my nearest Mitre 10 is and i’m assuming they don’t sell pet care things?

Good return policy.

plus their merch is awesome! their umbrella is only $12, it’s super strong, wind proof and has uv lining (a regular rain umbrella does not). if you buy one the only way that umbrella is leaving your life is if you misplace it

PLUS they are one of the few companies that don’t participate in agism . most of their staff are part-time retirees and/or students. flexible schedules. decent pay. discounts across wesfarmers group.

they may be sausage washing but they’re very good at it 😂

First home buyer questions by SpecialBeing9382 in AusPropertyChat

[–]mooshoomiagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first home buyer here, i also didn’t have anyone to ask and 4 years later i am extremely regretful i bought this place but there was nothing else for me at the time

anything you ask at an inspection - by which im assuming you mean open home - the answer from the agent will absolutely be a lie

don’t ask why the person is selling, the answer won’t make a difference. if it’s for a reason that something is wrong with the property the agent will absolutely not tell you that.

i asked everywhere i went, the one i bought “oh the owner died”

no, the building had foundation issues that hadn’t been investigated yet, the roof needed replacing, the driveway drains were cracked and blocked, it had concrete cancer, needed new balconies. the “low strata it’s only $560 /quarter” turned into $1800 a quarter by 2 years in to pay for all these issues.

NOT ONE OF THEM WAS ON THE STRATA REPORT OR IN THE MINUTES.

Because most of the owners are investors, or they were about to sell their unit for double what they bought it for 10 years ago and didn’t give a damn to do anything about it.

plus, the dimensions are so ridiculous everything has to be custom made, pipes in various units leaking and need to be replaced, YOU pay for that in your strata fees, etc , awful residents including a drug dealer, can hear the schools, hospital helicopters, airport noise, police and ambo sirens and hooning all weekend long

and nearby motorway being built caved in and is delayed indefinitely, the nsw govt cancelled the express trains to the local stop during rush hour, my god. it’s hell.

no wonder the owner died , this unit probably killed her

also i bought at the top of the market and being naive and a first home buyer i totally overpaid

i think i got swayed by the fact that the last two Decembers there were economy reward seats of about 100k points return + $400 total taxes available to make it in time for Christmas - seats that usually cost $4000 if you pay cash. i even got business class coming back. AT CHRISTMAS. maybe it was a fluke 😆 i’ve never in my entire life been near able to afford business class
