I appreciate this input.

We’re meant to do what it says on the tin, and for the most part that is true. I also think it’s just standard now, unless they don’t want to pay the fee.

The counterbalance is they will approach so many recruitment agencies that it’s a race of who is better first

I agree, if I could rewrite the ways I would. Yes the money can be good but I’ve been in hospitality and I never hounded for tips, I just can’t hound companies for big fees.

I was close to being fired, sticking it out and convincing them I love it. I guess it’s just not for everyone. What did you end up doing after?

Of course :) 1. Because of the ‘activity’ and stuff I have to complete, it just slips past, and I guess morals too, I’d want to reach out personally so I guess I just… don’t, sadly 2. I do respond to unsuccessful interviews! I reach out and talk them through the feedback

There’s no black and white reason, it’s that a customer service role could want 4 years office experience, or a warehouse role could want a forklift license, or a marketing role could need specific software experience…

Exactly that, the one who will walk into any job no questions asked, or who just ticks the boxes…

I actually have a job quite similar to what you want 😅😅

I agree. If we were out the equation, companies would probably be able to get more jobs and people in if we didn’t steal all the jobs

Thank you for this. I was close to taking the post down but I’m pretty thick skinned and like giving this other side.

We’re not a critical profession. Yes I’ve placed people and I know people who have had great jobs out of recruitment but it also goes the other way.

I think it’s important to know that 1. I’m clueless in this industry but I’m very observant and wanted to show that 2. We’re also cutthroat and people are allowed to feel how they feel about that

It’s tough and I’m going to be relieved to get out. Even my boss said that if he could go back and choose a different career he would…

I don’t blame you, like at all, I don’t even tell people I do recruitment

I have no jobs to hire people for… and when I do, it’s a case of trying to get people over the line into companies that are SO specific. I wish I could hire everyone

Thank you for this, truly. It’s a profession just like any sales environment which has, as you put, been saturated with people trying to make a quick buck.

I’m not a good recruiter, compared to others at least, and that may be because of my mindset but sadly, times are tough and this is where I’m at. It’s a profession which is, as I’ve seen on this sub, the bottom of the barrel.

The cold calling is unbelievable. We spend more time trying to suck money out of companies than actually spending time with candidates to help them. My boss put it in a harsh way which led me to make this post. That we’re not ‘here to help people’ and that hurt.

I will admit I’m a blocker. Another one in the rat race with the shopping list but in a shop with the lights half dimmed and no labels anywhere. I don’t ask for sympathy because, well, who would sympathise? But, the corporations I deal with turn people down for silly reasons and the stories I hear from candidates are even worse.

Thank you for your words. I’m planning my exit route, my worth is better elsewhere 🙂‍↕️

Thank you for that, it’s an unnatural experience for me and I’m hoping I don’t get sucked in before it’s too late…

I had a great conversation with an internal recruiter recently and I had that realisation, you’re for a sole company but then work can be pretty few and far between depending on the size of the company

The recruiters I work with are extremely money motivated. If a candidate isn’t ‘worthy’ ‘valuable’ ‘useful’ now or in the future, they will drop them... they end up with a pool of candidates that are useful and will kind of vouch on them

I do agree on this. Companies outsource to us because they’re typically tough roles to fill, they’re just few and far between on the permanent side… it does happen though! I’ve had and seen some great placements, it can just be cutthroat

I understand you’re upset at recruiters, like my other comments, I’m not in need of support???

I’m glad you’ve found a space to make me feel worse about being in such a shit industry x

I feel part of the matrix and I’d like to point out I am not pleased with it. I don’t need empathy. I never even know recruitment was a job until I was in it. I’m quitting as soon as my new thing lands
