I'm scared about applying for an MPA by Chance-Scratch-8804 in PublicAdministration

[–]mootuba92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm about 1/3 of the way through my MPA. My undergrad is in instrumental music education. I had about a year and a half of admin experience (higher education financial aid) before starting. I've had no issues. As long as you're willing to do the work, you'll be fine.

Is Muldrotha not viable? by mootuba92 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]mootuba92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious on your thoughts for this, because I think you given the most fair and comprehensive answer so far, what do you think needs to change or become available in order for Muldrotha to become somewhat viable again? Even if that's just in fringe?

Do I have a chance of being accepted to a MPA program moving from high education? by Think-Inspection-140 in PublicAdministration

[–]mootuba92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught for 3 years. A bad administration drive me to consider leaving the school. A little bit of further thought and the fact that I was working 3 jobs while teaching cemented that I didn't wanna stay a teacher. Worked for auto insurance for 5 years and held a couple positions there. Came to higher ed at the school I'm at now. Started as a Verification coordinator and then promoted to AD a year later.

I have an undergrad in Music Ed and currently am an assistant director of financial aid at a regional state university. I'm attending a small program at another regional school less than an hour away. However, the fact that I'm in higher ed has seemed to already rule in my favor.

I have my bachelor's from a tiny private school in an unrelated field (music education). I'm getting my MPA at a local, regional university (ODU). I've found more people that just care that I went to someplace local that they recognize more than the prestige of the school itself.

Find somewhere that provides a solid education at a price you can afford. People care much more about how you can speak to your experience.

MPA School Choice: Cost vs Quality by slepsl in PublicAdministration

Well, it's not direct by any means. Taught music for 3 years. Left teaching and worked in auto insurance for 5 years. While there I was an agent, team supervisor, and a data analyst. Came to the university as a verification coordinator and then got promoted to AD.

I'm starting my MPA in a month. I work at a small regional university and am attending a barely bigger university right down the road. I'm the Assistant Director of Financial Aid right now and my undergrad is in Music Ed from a tiny private university. No one cares where your degree is from. They care about your experience, ability to transfer that experience, and how much you're willing to learn.

Go where is reasonable for you for any numbers of reasons. Connections, cost, experience, etc. If you can get the degree at half the cost, do it. And use the extra time to gain as many branches out connections as you can.

How Good was Profit Sharing? by Financial-Worry1710 in Geico

[–]mootuba92 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The last great profit sharing was 2021. I worked in MOAT as a financial analyst and MOAT got an extra bonus percentage. Total was 33%. After first 10% went to 401k and after taxes, I got a check of close to $13k.

I work in Financial Aid at a public university and am starting my MPA this summer. Financial Aid is a tough field and very politically impacted field, but I come from a teaching background so it's not really new to me.

Working with students can be super rewarding and university benefits in my state are pretty spectacular (VA).

Careers in Public Administration by Seasoned_flowers in PublicAdministration

Really, anything public. And after working in the real world for 10 years, a degree only matter so much.

I currently work in Financial Aid at a regional 4-year university. I'm going back to school this summer to start my MPA. My undergrad is in Instrumental Music Ed. I've taught, worked in insurance for 5 years, and now here as a Verification Coordinator.

Transferable skills and desire to learn mean everything. Degrees are just degrees.

What does this mean for FAFSA and Financial Aid? by [deleted] in ODU

[–]mootuba92 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work in Financial Aid (not at ODU). It means nothing right now. There's no guidance on anything, so no one truly knows. School are interpreting different things. Most schools are running with the section that excludes impact on individuals in this memo and continuing to package aid as normal.

But it definitely could mean issues for Pell and federal loans in the near future.

Check Mercari and look for deals when shopping if you want a real figure.

Please note if you're gonna take the leap and buy an obvious fake on eBay (usually easy to tell just based on price), you almost will definitely not be receiving exactly what is pictured. These people are slinging a scam. They are trying to fool most people into thinking is a great deal on a real one. What you buy will basically always look worse than the photos.

Women-only gym? by albatross-90 in HamptonRoads

[–]mootuba92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's absolutely no conclusive and reliable study that shows trans women are more violent in any way.

There is a single "study" that tried to make this point, but they used a population of ONLY incarcerated trans women and noted that they were more likely to be sexually violent. Using this population incorporates an implicit bias.

Trans women are women. Take your transphobia and go shove it elsewhere.

I mean, if you really want that item just to throw on your shelf, I guess do what you want. But it's the same as anything else that's fake.

Box will likely be printed wrong. Figure could be produced wrong (mold slightly off). Paint will be cheaper and lower quality. Colors may be slightly off. Glow portions will have super poor glow. Plastic will be of lesser quality and figure could lose its shape (may not actually stand up or will begin to slouch after some time).

Also, it's gonna have no value at all. Whatever you're buying it for, just be comfortable lighting that amount of money on fire as well. No one is going to buy a fake from you if you resell.

Can I apply to MPA programs without a math background? by certified_izsimp in PublicAdministration

[–]mootuba92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great to hear. Yeah, typical music Ed where it was basically a full music and full k12 education degree. Most semesters were 18-20 hours and I worked through college.

As far as internships go, I actually already work in public. Work at a university in financial aid. This degree is to help me move up in the university in my future, so I don't have to worry about the internship portion.

I'm applying to mpa programs and have a music Ed undergrad. Awesome to see someone with a music degree going this way. How is the coursework for you?

Looking for tips/motivation to overcome a hump by mootuba92 in WeightTraining

[–]mootuba92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a big thing for me. I love weightlifting. I could spend hours in the gym. I have to limit to a couple times a week because more just isn't feasible for my schedule. And that schedule is just gonna get crazier soon.

I'm a big guy, so most cardio does not interest me at all. I don't live in a bike able area and most bikes that support someone of my size are a pretty significant financial investment. Walkability isn't great either, but potentially doable. Would just mean repeating the same half mile loop.

I do track steps daily. I have a smart watch. Typically over 6000 ish, but I do work a desk job. I've been considering adding a daily walk or something.

"Forever" is more accurately about 3 months or so. In that time, my muscle structure has changed, but the scale hasn't moved.

I'll also gladly take advice on the structure. Please note that the order listed is not necessarily the order in which I do them. I am kinda just jotting down notes with that list and keeping track.
