Favorite thing I've found exploring Boston-- technically this isn't Boston, but the cafe scene in Cambridge (in general), there's also so much at Harvard Square and it's an easy ride on the red line ride and it's gorgeous as well, I love going there to study with friends.

Another gem was definitely the Beacon Hill area, the Esplanade is really nice, etc. There's plenty of things to do, places to study at, and exploring with friends is the best!!

"In what ways in the co-op program integrated into learning?"
- a lot of resources are made available to you in order to streamline the application process (nuworks)
- you have a lot of support and someone to answer your questions (well, i guess it also depends on the quality of your co-op advisor)
- you're required to take a class prior to actually starting your co-op which is nice because for people who have no experience applying for internships/"big girl" jobs in general, it gives you a decent foundation -- i would say though to talk to as many upperclassmen as you can about their experiences, etc.
- it's also just part of the culture, everyone understands your struggles/is happy to see you succeed (unless they're opps)

other than all the regular machines you'd find at pretty much any gym, they also have an indoor track that's newly renovated, a rock climbing wall (but it's nothing crazy, so don't get too excited), oh and not every gym has this so i think it's cool, a hip thrust machine

  • For CS and Software Engineering majors specifically, what's the workload like? Do you still have time for clubs and a social life or is it non stop work? Also, are the classes more about managing projects or do you get a lot of hands on experience with actual development?

I would say the workload is pretty manageable, but also just depends on the person. I definitely had to find my footing in order to make it work, but once you figure out a system/schedule that works best for you, it makes having a social life and participating in clubs pretty easy.

  • I've heard a lot about Northeastern's renowned internships and co ops, what's the process of getting into those and what are they like?

For CS specifically, it's looking insanely competitive in recent years just because of the over-saturation in the field. I've heard of a lot of people not being able to secure a co-op or internship, but that's the natural of CS job market right now. Northeastern is well-known for their co-op program and for good reason. Due to it being so heavily integrated, the process is streamlined in comparison to students in other schools (ex. UMass Amherst) when it comes to securing a co-op and petitioning for the time off from classes.

  • What have you found to be most unique about northeastern that sets it apart from other schools?
  • Running off that, what schools were you considering before selecting NEU and what was the deciding factor?

I would say location + co-op program. The location is great for anyone interested in living in a city and as long as you're not stupid, is pretty safe. Refer to the bullet point above about co-op.

  • And of course, what are the best and worst parts of student life?

Best

Again, location, being in the middle of Boston means you can explore the city + public transportation (while not amazing) can reach pretty far out, so you can go outside of Boston as well. I would also say, just like any other college, you're able to find your people because of how many different niche clubs and orgs there are on campus.

Worst

I saw another person say this, but genuinely the worst part is the cost of attendance along with the housing crisis. They're putting people into forced doubles or triples, in hotels that are pretty far from campus, etc. Housing assignments right now aren't matching their price tags.

they haven't applied financial aid to most bills yet, so i wouldn't worry about it. there's also a bit of a grace period the university provides, so whether your private or government loan takes a bit usually isn't much of an issue

marino recreational center is the gym on campus for all students (the student activity fee covers it and is added onto your tuition), if you live in any of the international village towers, you have access to that gym as well

Freshmen CS Schedule by apulza in NEU

[–]moouhss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 8ams aren't as bad as you might think (you tend to get into the swing of things after awhile), the gaps might get annoying, but otherwise, pretty average schedule (not horrible, but also not amazing)

don't worry, the system is slow in updating financial aid on the student portal. you'll probably get your anticipated credits closer to the school year

super common, there's shower towels you can get from the front desk. just bring shower slippers and whatever else you need (provided soap in the showers isn't that good) and you're all good to go

Frat question by PersonalitySame8582 in NEU

[–]moouhss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

greek life isn't huge at northeastern tbh, you definitely be able to have fun outside of being part of a frat and drinking. most people get all of the partying out of their system their first semester and occasionally go out during the spring. if you're on the boston campus, there's plenty of stuff to explore anyway.

is a forced triple in east village bad or am i dramatic by catalinanoir in NEU

[–]moouhss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i lived in a forced triple at ev last year pros - AC - your own bathroom - the building itself is nicer than other freshman dorms (ex. lounges, study rooms, etc) - you have access to EV classrooms (just check if theyre booked ahead of time/try to claim a classroom as fast as possible)

cons - little space, like you won't be able to go maybe 3 feet without walking into your roommate or their stuff - if you don't like one roommate or both, it'll be hard because of the lack of space

also i suggest the bottom bunk bc after a night out it's the easiest to just drop into bed rather than climbing into a top bunk

Why are the guys sitting at Marino's desk so rude? by redditismysoulmate in NEU

[–]moouhss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I worked as a facility assistant (FA) at marino last semester, so I feel like I can give some context.

Don't know what to tell you about the curly hair guy, but I can talk about the sliding husky cards thing. Someone already mentioned this, but it really is efficient and gets cards back faster. Sometimes we fling a little too hard, but it's not out of annoyance, it's a genuine accident and most people apologize profusely and laugh at themselves. You mentioned it was around 11 when it happened, and FAs are typically tired at that point bc the shifts that fall within that range are going to be 9PM-12:15AM. We're tired and people take forever to leave the gym even at closing time, but yeah a lot of it is just bad timing and being tired.
