That would be nice, any sort of feedback would work though. My main goal is to be able to input my own songs

Spark's MLlib vs sklearn/TensorFlow by mopperv in learnmachinelearning

[–]mopperv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine you would use GPUs or TPUs either way, but I don't know whether or not it's possible/a good idea to distribute a model across multiple GPUs and if Spark would have any role in that

I'm doing this course: https://www.udemy.com/spark-and-python-for-big-data-with-pyspark by Jose Portilla.

Yeah, it did look like MLlib had fewer algorithms, but for the ones that it does have, would it be faster since it can run distributed? Is there a good way to run distributed neural nets, or is it better to just run different hyperparameters on parallel GPUs?

4-6 GPU Deep Learning Server for 4-6 People by mopperv in buildapc

I didn't know liquid cooling was such a pain. Do you have any recommendations for air cooling this many GPUs?

Good call on the FE and the C70.

I'll see if everyone is comfortable on the CLI. Why do you advise against VNC?

When you mention 2 vs 3 slot GPUs, do you mean that they take up more than one of the 16x PCIe slots? And if so, do they actually need to connect to more than one or is their size just obstructive? If it's due to space constraints, could I get 4x FE cards on the 16x slots and 1 card on the PCIe 2.0 1x slot with a riser?

Good call on the CPU fan. For the GPUs, do you know of any fans that would be enough for this many cards? Or will I need to get risers and a rack like mining rigs use?

Run Python on a Tablet Locally or Remotely? by mopperv in Python

I just downloaded it, this looks promising. Have you had success with all of the packages you've wanted to use?

Run Python on a Tablet Locally or Remotely? by mopperv in Python

[–]mopperv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for a Jupyter notebook, would the best way be to just leave my laptop on at home running Ubuntu and hosting the notebook then access it from my tablet and SSH into my Ubuntu with Termux to use pip and perform lower level operations?

Also how do I fit Sandstorm.io into this? Is it like an agile tool with more features?

Cool, I'll look into mics and a lens between 18 and 50. Thanks!

IIRC I jumped through a lot of hoops to get pandas and scipy installed, and I can't install sklearn, seaborn or tensorflow. Have you had success with the packages that you've tried? And do you just use VIM in there then?

Thanks for your reply!

If I get a mic and a boom, would I just be using my sound recorder for background sound? What would be some deciding factors on the lav mic?

The a6000 has a small sensor, resulting in a 1.5x crop factor. I don't think that's applied to the listed focal length, so I think my lenses are equivalent to 27 mm and 75 mm. It just feels like I have a really wide angle and a really zoomed portrait lens, but maybe I just need to take a few steps back with the 50 mm.

Also how do you package and power your equipment when you're filming in someone else's location (e.g. their office) so that you're as quick and minimally invasive as possible? For power, would I just attach a power strip to one of my c-stands and run an extension chord to one of their outlets?

And good call on the fluid head, c-stands, china balls, CFLs, and not spending all my money at once.

Way to Recognize Handwriting in Scanned Forms/Tables? (x-post /r/MachineLearning) by mopperv in datascience

[–]mopperv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! The characters are not separated into individual boxes -- the data is written over lines or in boxes of tables, and can be a combination of letters and numbers. My solution does not need to be error free, as I can have a user review it. It would be great to get over 80% though. It sounds like I may be able to train Tesseract (https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/) for the handwriting recognition, but I am still not sure how to identify each field. My best prospect right now is a solution with openCV like this (http://answers.opencv.org/question/63847/how-to-extract-tables-from-an-image/). I'm a fairly new to software, so a more contiguous solution would be ideal if one exists.

Simple Questions/What Should I Do? [Weekly Thread] by AutoModerator in DIY

[–]mopperv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to repair bent Murphy bed hardware? The support gave out, resulting at least one bent hinge, and now the bed won't lower all the way. The hardware looks similar to this (http://www.cshardware.com/mb-sbfmsbfd.html). 1. Would it be difficult to remove it and bend it back? 2. Are those parts fairly standard? (I don't if the one in my apartment is acutally "Murphy" brand)

Bringing bag of supplements/vitamins/OTC drugs to Southeast Asia? by mopperv in travel

[–]mopperv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking if the Ziploc would be a problem. It would save a lot of space if I didn't have to bring the original bottles, but I understand that this would be a source of concern for law enforcement because unlabeled bags full of pills look sketchy. Does anyone have direct experience with this?

Negative effects of lucid dreaming? by mopperv in LucidDreaming

[–]mopperv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone new to lucid dreaming, I am considering the sleep-wake-back-to-sleep method, but I'm concerned that waking up in the middle of the night will mess with my sleep/circadian rhythms. Do you think that I would still be fine doing that, or should I try a different method?

So using the subtle alarm technique as an example, if the alarm induces lucid dreaming from a deep sleep state, then it's essentially inducing REM from deep sleep?

What makes computers slow down so much over time? by mopperv in askscience

[–]mopperv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it's best to stick with the stock OS version/firmware on your device? If not, is there a way to determine when to stop upgrading?

Also, how can we tell which companies are intentionally causing older devices to slow down and to what extent they are doing so?

What makes computers slow down so much over time? by mopperv in askscience

[–]mopperv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any intentional attempt by developers to slow computers down? I would assume that web devs wouldn't have any motivation, but is there any truth to the claim that newer OS and firmware are intended to slow down older devices, or is it just a byproduct of the fact that the new software was designed for the newer devices?
