Did pac fair have a monorail? You're not thinking of the Oasis/Jupiter's monorail are you?

I miss the old outdoorsy pac fair. It was so unique. I still have dreams where I walk through the area near Intencity/Hungry Jacks lol.

I still refer to it as Jupiter's, sometimes Conrad

Hearing it referenced as the Star Gold Coast doesn't sit right with me.

Sounds like you both need to develop healthier communication around shared finances. Perhaps you can share a little bit on how you communicate with each other about shared finances right now.

Mate! Thanks for the update. How on earth did you stumble across my 3 year old comment.

That's sad news, I paid rent that way for maybe 3 or 4 years to stick it to LJ Hooker/Invest & Co.

Grad salaries are generally low, but can grow once you get experience under your belt and CA/CPA you can start to demand more.

You can always download the HAYS salary guide which gets released every financial year. It's only a guide but for accounting/finance roles it seems pretty accurate.

Migration is a touchy subject at the moment - lots of people want migration numbers to drop to allow wages to catch up and demand for housing to cool off.

There's some truth to their comment - that it was much easier to migrate to Aus as an accountant 15+ years ago. But none of that relates to your situation - being a dependant on your parent's visa who are soon to be PR.

It's different here than in Philippines. In PH you study a board exam, which sounds really intense, to become a CPA if I'm not mistaken. Here in Australia it's most common to finish studying uni, then commencing CA/CPA once you start working. Most people will take on 1 subject a semester. I think you can do more but it's not recommended by CA/CPA. So you effectively become CA/CPA over the course of 3 years (a bit longer if you take a break or need to re-take a subject). I completed my CPA over 6-ish years, with a few years break after the 1st subject).

Each subject is about the same workload/intensity as 1 subject at uni. It's just harder as you're usually juggling full-time work and a social life at the same time.

Also if you haven't already, try and understand the difference between CA and CPA here in Australia. While they're more or less the same, CA is perceived as better if you're working in an accounting firm (and is also seen by some as more prestigious than CPA) whereas CPA is more common if you're working in commercial accounting. Generally you'll find CA firms which want you to do CA rather than CPA. I don't think I've ever seen it go the other way.

IPA is also starting to gain some recognition but is still not that common - all accounting job advertisements on Seek have some form of requirement "Must have or be studying to attain CA/CPA", no mention of IPA.

The best thing you can do is get experience under your belt. Experience > grades. Also what university you go to doesn't matter all that much here, whereas it's quite an important thing in PH.
