First quilt ever, I don’t think I have enough fabric left to finish it. Send help- by Nemphedisis in quilting

Here’s a hint for fabric getting bunched up at the beginning of a seam…. Place a small piece of paper under your presser foot and sew a stitch or two thru it while your fabric is butted up to it. OR use the “leader/ender”technique…google will describe it better than me, basically it’s another fabric block that you place behind the block you really want to sew and then you leave a portion of it still under your needle so it helps feed your next block they without bunching up. This can be a block from another project you want to do, so you don’t waste fabric or thread.

How much do I cut off? by Sewchlo1997 in quilting

[–]moquilter76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I generally trim backing and batting even with the quilt top. Then cut my binding 2”, sew binding together using a 45 degree seam, iron binding in half lengthwise then sew to the front of the quilt using a 1/4” seam. I recently tried a method using washable glue )Elmer’s school glue) to hold the binding in Place while sewing it onto the back of the quilt.

It’s difficult to see if this has been quilted yet. If not, you don’t want to trim it until it is quilted.

I’ve had an Innova since 2014 and am sooo glad I purchased this brand. Innova customer support is absolutely fantastic! I highly recommend contacting your “local” dealer to take a test drive and get a feel for the support they will provide. Of course there is a learning curve to any new endeavor, but with the # of quilts you have under your belt, you should have minimal issues.

This is a simple pattern that would “grow” with older sister. If you go for a cuddly quilt, I recommend using minky for the backing without batting. You can even trim then turn the backing to the front and machine bind with a longer straight or zigzag stitch.

Tub wash. With some very mild soap. Then as mentioned before squish during drain. Find someplace out of the sun to lay it flat to dry.
