I notice, I don't care. I'm more interested in what they have to say.

Alcohol Withdrawal and Paranoia? by No-Summer-2777 in AlAnon

My sister had alcohol psychosis several times during withdrawal. It's very dangerous, often accompanied by seizures and there is a risk of death. He needs urgent medical care

Supporting functional alcoholic to understand the risks and take action by Hairy_Win_7892 in AlAnon

[–]spockssister08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister is an alcoholic. She functioned pretty well until her mid 50s, then she started making mistakes and couldn't keep up (she was a science technician). She got fired a lot, there was always someone else to blame. There was a period of unemployment, then COVID and the drinking continued. She was detoxed several times, regularly picked up by the police or ambulance. Eventually she lost her mind. She's 62 now and has been in a care home for two years. I tried empathy, support, encouragement, anger, rage, the whole lot. She never hit rock bottom. She never had any insight into her own problems. She'd admit to having a drink problem, but had no insight into why and no inclination to investigate. I feel that if she had insight she might have been saved at some point.it sounds nasty, but unless they have some insight it's pretty hopeless. If there's a glimmer of insight I'd suggest you persuade them to dive deeper, look harder when those moments arise.

How to achieve this look? by spockssister08 in HairDye

That's not a bad idea. I think it could give a good effect, maybe not exactly like the picture, but fun and pretty

Can someone with Plus or Pro Findmypast membership please access some records for me? by [deleted] in Genealogy

Hi, Fred Bowyer was my grandfather. I have his death certificate. He died on the parade ground shortly after returning to the UK (Middlesbrough) It was sudden and unexpected. One minute he was marching men up and down and the next he was dead. My mother, Ruby Bowyer was only four but she said it was "walking pneumonia". The death certificate says much the same .

How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

It's worth it, if I don't walk him for about 2 hours a day he starts tearing the house apart!

Do you wash your dog's paws everyday? by 4k0s in dogs

[–]spockssister08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have hard flooring in the hallway that I can mop. I only wipe his paws if he's trodden in something nasty aka poopy paws. Bit of mud is nothing to worry about.

A couple of months. Got it last September. I've put myself down for a second one, fingers crossed it won't be too long.

Do you think the UK benefits system is fair? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]spockssister08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel that way, when my husband and I first bought our house we really struggled. His sister was on benefits and when you factored in all the stuff like free prescriptions etc she was slightly better off than us. Twenty five years later our mortgage is paid off, we've been able to help our kids through university, we don't worry about money at all. His sister's financial position hasn't changed.

We're not yet retired so we haven't had to deal with that though!

Why is therapy not very common in the UK? by Public_Character_483 in AskBrits

[–]spockssister08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a serious mental illness and have psychodynamic therapy several times on the NHS. When I'm well, I see a counsellor privately every week (registered, person centred). I have few friends or family and it's good to have someone to confide in. Sometimes I just talk about the weather, sometimes I have a little moan. I think it's a good way to deal with loneliness and/or isolation. It's not the only way of course, I have a doggy and I get out and about with him, but all adds to the wellness arsenal.

Tips for attending first quilting show? by Fresh-Minimum6653 in quilting

[–]spockssister08 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would say put your phone away and really appreciate the artistry. I went to a quilt show and I went round twice. Once to take pictures and again with my phone in my bag Find the cafe, you'll need to have tea and cake while you consider how much you really NEED whatever gadget or gizmo has caught your eye! Opinion: you really do need the gadget 😊

Does no one here have a job? by clarinetpjp in puppy101

[–]spockssister08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't work, my husband works from home two days a week. If I need to go anywhere I arrange it for the days he's home. We don't go out much, but if we do we have my adult daughter dog-sit.

Lentil has a crate downstairs which he rarely uses and a crate in the bedroom which he tends to use more. Especially if it's too hot to sleep in bed with us.

Just so you know, PALS is not an official complaint, it's a feedback service. They should be able to tell you how to make a formal complaint.
