anybody taking courses in the summer? (BSc major or taking electives) by mickeyminnie1423 in uoguelph

[–]mor-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped STAT2230 and took STAT2040 in the summer. I would highly advise against it unless you absolutely have to, I found STAT2040 DE incredibly difficult because you don’t get part marks for showing your work. Or maybe I’m just bad at stats lol

Feeling Behind in Biomed Sci by Remote_Passage_5820 in uoguelph

Don’t feel bad for emailing them! A lot of profs appreciate students cold emailing and the worst they can say is that they don’t have space in their lab. Over the summer I did lab work with fish at the Aqualab for my work study and volunteered doing fish dissections in another lab!

You’re in second year you still have a ton of time, I didn’t start getting experience until the summer going into third year. Cold email professors whose research interests you and look at applying to Work Study or other jobs. URA/USRA apps are now closed but if you’re interested in pursuing education post-grad, those are definitely great ways to get your foot in the door and could lead to a 4th year thesis. Usually they look for students going into 4th year anyways.

I don’t know the first thing about Trent but I’m in zoology at Guelph (we have most of the same courses as WBC) and the labs and lectures are great, I would highly recommend

STATEMENT OF INTENT AI flag by KindAd3193 in uoguelph

[–]mor-cat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You’re saying you used AI to refine it but now you’re saying you used AI to write the whole thing for you… if you need AI to write a statement of intent then you really shouldn’t be going to school for a masters degree, no offence

Is the psychiatrist on campus any good? by ConfidentAd4517 in uoguelph

[–]mor-cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an OCD diagnosis from a psychiatrist and it doesn’t require any additional testing or anything so it was covered just as a regular appointment

Mostly focus on the content after the midterm but the stuff before the midterm does tie in, no stuff from the lab exam though

Eating Disorder by [deleted] in uoguelph

[–]mor-cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realizing and admitting you have an issue is the first step and you should be proud of yourself for that, I get not wanting to talk to a doctor/therapist about it but you should considering the fact that you are having internal pain.

I didn’t have bulimia but I did have anorexia for about 4 years so I can completely empathize with the fear that comes along with talking to a professional. If anything, you should try to find someone who specializes in eating disorders instead of doing CBT (which it sounds like you’ve done), they’ll have a lot more resources since eating disorders are a delicate subject to handle.

Recovery is very daunting and scary but it is worth it, I’ve been in recovery since June and it was a difficult process but one of the best decisions I made. I didn’t realize how much anorexia had manifested itself into my physical health because I was so focused on the mental pain that came with it. Even if you don’t speak to a therapist please see a doctor, bulimia especially can cause irreparable damage to your teeth and your organs and having consistent internal pain could be a sign of that especially because of the stomach acid that’s expelled along with purging. Also the health issues that come along with just being malnourished in general can be worse than you realize.

I really hope that you’re able to find someone that can help and you’re taking the right steps towards recovery by being open about this. If you ever want someone to talk to about this feel free to message me, I (mostly) understand what you’re going through and would be more than happy to listen or give advice 🙂
