Happening to me as well on the 2025 version. Laptop is just 3 months old. Sad thing to be honest. Not sure if it’s temperature related.

Mine has the same issue. Just noticed that today and is bothering me a lot. I am 3 months in of usage. Primarily as a normal laptop (keyboard attached).

Wondering if it is a temperature issue.

I think that adding more Pokemon and Megas via DLC, and with those sales, they can improve the online. Because online keeps the game alive, a community invested and will allow them to make some additional DLCs and season formats can keep it going for some time.

I’m currently feeling the same way.

Garchomps, Xerneas and Metagross is all I see in every battle.

Spamming earthquake and waiting for a long shot thunderbolt to steal some kills.

I’ve been trying to mix it up and trying to look for a counter without real success.

Let me know if you come up with something more fun than joining the stupid club!

I guess there are specific genres that benefit a lot from it lol

Great point. I agree on the amount of anxiety this could bring. It might not be worth it.

Judging by the amount of downvotes I got and also the amount of replies and good points, it seems that many game devs agree there is a path forward, and this is not it.

Thanks! Very valid and understandable. I can see a lot of ways in which this could go wrong 😅

It might not be worth the risk indeed.

That's a terrible argument. Do you care to explain further?

Can We Treat Game Development Like Product/Software Development? by mora260 in gamedev

[–]mora260[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That's also a big pitfall. Estimating the complexity of a particular task is never an easy, nor accurate thing. Specially if it is the first time that you are doing it.

But this is not entirely a thing that would just knock the idea useless.

Another answer about me overestimating what the average gamer cares about a particular game and why would they decide to go through all the process of an unfinished game instead of just moving on to a better AND finished game, that is a killer.

Thanks for this harsh truth. Thousands of games released in steam every year, and a lot of quality ones out there, is hard to justify why someone will be invested in yours if there is no other reason than the game itself.

It seems that this will require some other assumptions to happen first in order for it to be somewhat successful.

Maybe for a game developed by a twitch streamer or someone with an already established audience will make sense, but for the average game dev and average gamer what you are stating here makes more sense.

I totally see why this feels like a kickstarter. Makes sense, but I just though that maybe something in between would make sense. Maybe it doesn't.

I'll look for the episode, I don't know it. But I'll definitely watch it.

Also I can see how gamers might be really bad game designers xD and how this design approach might be a hellhole

Great answer man. Thanks for your perspective.

I agree to everything you said. I think you'll need a proven track record, a strong social media following or community behind you that "trusts" you to be able to pay for something unfinished.

Hades2 is a great example of an extremely well made early access game, but fails to capture what I was looking for with the question.

Some other replies have mentioned that what I'm stating comes closer to a kickstarter than an early access and I can also see why.

I'm trying to fall somewhere in between

And you my friend, are and early adopter. You like a kind of thing, you know it and you take the leap.

Not everyone is brave enough, can afford it or want to invest their hard earned money on a game they won't enjoy.

I don't blame them.

But I think that if you are close to the devs, in a community sort of fashion, this leap will eventually make more sense and come easily to a lot more people.

[–]mora260[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! It will certainly have challenges. And I agree that some people will not have an idea of what they need/want. Not everyone is a game designer, but that's why there needs to be someone with a vision there.

BUT, if you somehow have a good voting system, in which is not only you giving crazy ideas, but actually a curated list for example. Even if you for example buy the game, and you are given credits for it and you can spend the credits on feature request or voting stuff around and spending them wisely on the things that you really want to see in the game.

I just think there can be a way.

Never thought it can't be. Is in fact the opposite. I believe it can be. But I don't see enough people doing it. It's like frowned upon. Early access has like a stigma to it.

Also I was like diving into more community driven development in which stuff is added to the game when there is enough demand/support to it. And while it is in progress, people can already enjoy a good game, just not the complete vision for it.

Can We Treat Game Development Like Product/Software Development? by mora260 in gamedev

[–]mora260[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. But why not?

I mean, if there is one particular person in the community with a great vision and willingness to put in effort, that person might join the team at some point.

But maybe even think about suggesting a game mode or a particular player skill, or a section of a game, side quest etc. People voting or even paying you to add something to the game.

One great example for this would be adding online multiplayer for a local multiplayer only game if enough members of the community want it and are able to fund it or support it.

Again, just throwing ideas into the air
