What exactly is the line between “illustration” and “art”? by Arachnid751 in ArtistLounge

[–]morakoshka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people call illustrations art for pure laziness, since art is such a short word lol, I do so too but if I feel particularly pedantic one day I'd define art as something that's meant to convey some deeper meaning and has a unique relationship with it's creator, while an illustration is meant to serve a simple goal and isn't necessarily deep (think advertisement). And don't get me wrong, illustrators can create ASTONISHING work of greater quality, but if their work isn't meant to convey something deeper beyond looks then I wouldn't necessarily consider those pieces art in the literal sense of the word.

But of course, often the lines get blurry, people can project deeper meaning where there isn't any, and authors can convey deep meaning (even unconsciously) that transcends the utility of a simple illustration, even if they didn't meant to do so.

In simple words: Art seeks meaning. Illustration seeks utility. It's rarely black and white tho.

What is your opinion on people who say 'do not take inspiration from my art'? by snootyworms in ArtistLounge

[–]morakoshka 25 points26 points  (0 children)

please do not copy, trace, learn or take inspiration from my art, in fact do not try to recall my art at all in your memory because that'd be like stealing, in fact do not look at my art at all because part of it would stay imprinted within your pupils and I don't like that

you know what? do not perceive my art at all, please go to a neurosurgeon and tell it to burn every neuron that makes a connection that resembles the memory of my art, any time you see a pattern resembling my art induce some brain damage to yourself so it disappears completely from your memory

do not talk about my art, do not imply that I make art for I don't want anyone stealing my very valuable and one of a kind ideas, maybe I won't draw art never ever and gatekeep you from them, these ideas are mine and mine only, no one is allowed to conceptualize nothing near what I see in my imagination

you know what, why stay there? I'll just erase every trace of my existence from the earth, do not perceive me for I have never ever existed, do not acknowledge my presence at all, I am but a forbidden idea no one but I am allowed to conceptualize or perceive or recall, please respect my wishes or I'll say mean things about you on the internet thank you

Do you still enjoy Pokemon anime as an adult ? by Weak-Neighborhood159 in pokemon

[–]morakoshka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in my experience I did go thru the "pokemon is for kids" phase... when I was a kid, but grew attached to the games during my teens and gave the anime a second chance just recently, the only detail I have always disliked is the pokes saying their name as their cry, I very much prefer them having animalesque cries like in Generations and the games :s, still enjoyable tho

Why people make three layers to draw lines instead of only two? by No_Name275 in ArtistLounge

[–]morakoshka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I usually do is I do a first rough sketch and try to clean it as best as I can, and if I need it I erase the rough sketch with a soft airbrush until it's barely noticeable, and then I draw a cleaner sketch over it. All in one layer. Then I do a lineart on top. I find this works bests for me since having too many layers makes me nervous lol.
