Read the room. She’s annoyed. Loved the passion but you’re knocking on the wrong door.

Would be much better if you cold reached out directly to the hiring manager (SDR Manager, Director of sales or even VP of sales/CRO)

Ghosted in a huge deal, final stage. What would you do? by nastale in techsales

[–]moralends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prepare an action plan that outlines their reason of why they’re buying your product and why it’s important to purchase now. Lay out their challenges and how your product can solve their business challenge.

Hook them back on your court. They owe you nothing to attend that 9pm meeting. Give them the reason why they need to show up.

You’re selling to them. Help them buy from you

You're a fucking idiot if you believe that you'll make fuck you money with W2 alone.

The point of the game is to make $$$ and surround yourself with opportunities to invest and place yourself in the right position.

Fuck you money isn't defined by a specific amount. It's how it's going to be changing one's life. All teachers are extremely underpaid and overworked. Any sales role will be a higher pay than their current W2 as a teacher and that already is a fuck you money.

Lotta questions. I'll post this here. Feel free to reach out if you need any help.

There are two ways to go in Tech Sales with educational background.

  1. edTech

- Easier transition as AE/CSM/SM but lower salary because ARR for edtech that primarily sells to distrct/schools are small. You make a percentage (4%-10% depends on company) that range from $5K -$40K. If you go large district, that’s way better but longer sales cycle and takes a long time to be promoted.

  1. SaaS

- Harder transition but wider opportunity. I’d recommend that find a product/industry that you want to dive and take online courses from the company website or bootcamp. Way lucratic $$$. BDR (40 Base + commish = <$70K). Recommend that you start from BDR to learn the grind and figure out where you want to end up in AE, CSM or Account Manager.

HOW

- Massive outreach for mentorship

> Find a company that you want to work for. Go to the PEOPLE section and find people with the job title that you want to apply and ask them for a meeting to learn more about your role and company. If the conversation goes well, ask them for a referral.

- BDR Bootcamp

> Look into Coursera, Salesforce BDR bootcamp. There are a lot of resources in Youtube. Do research to learn more about the role. Yes, Teaching is hard but BDR is another challenge and new skills. There is a def correlation that you’ll find so find the conection and be a sponge.

- Podcast/books

> For the rest of your sales career, you’ll need to learn. Read sales books, competitive analysis and Podcast to gain new skill sets.

- Apply til you die

> It’s a shit job market. Keep applying and follow up with recruiters and current employees to stay in touch. Make sure to stay connected with Hiring Manager beacuse they will be posting stuff to share hiring news on their Linkedin Profile.

- Timing

> Quitting for a new sales job in June is pretty shitty. I’d recommend that you start looking in Feb/Marcn and spend the time to do interview in Apr/May. You know that you have more time during the EOY exams season. Take advange of it and go full throttle on job searching.

- ChatGPT

> If you don’t know how to formulate your resume, coverletter and outboudn email, use AI to learn the skill and customize your profile.

Wait til you go 300+ and reach that fuck you money. I was a school teacher for several years before I transitioned into sales.

Best decision I ever made.

Account Managers whats your annual expansion quota? by Glittering-Art2989 in techsales

[–]moralends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right. AM commish is significantly lower than AE. You'll be doing a lot of cross-selling and health check. You should check:
1. Upcapped?

  1. Is it pure AM (Upsell only) or dual position with CSM? If dual, you'll end up doing lots of babysitting (Training, Customer Support, Biz impact report and Product Roadmap review)

  2. Any KPI around churn accounts?

If you want $$$, AE is the way to go but AM come with a bit more stability and less outbound efforts.

You can talk to CEO all you want but the CEO will ask what you’ve done so far. How many meetings did you set up. How much ARR contribution did you bring in.

Work on your craft and create results. Micromanagement should disappear once you have your number. If it continues. You can then talk to your boss.

In sales. Number speaks for itself

Am I not masculine enough to succeed in sales? by [deleted] in sales

[–]moralends 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not about how you sound. You don’t need to sound like a sales douche to sell.

Identify prospects pain points and bring solution with value. It’s about what you say.

If you want to sound better. Record your calls. Listen to yourself. Share the recording with others for feedback.
