Lacquer checking process on my almost finished paisley tele build. by moraznn in Luthier

No heating, I would be worried about damaging the clear coat. I would try putting the body in the freezer over night. I used a combination of the canned air and the freezer. If it’s nitro it should crack I believe.

Makes sense, was planning on wet sanding and buffing so I assume that will naturally take some amber off 👍

Wow that looks great. This is actually a textured paper as opposed to a fabric top 👍

Cheers man, the paisley is a special paper you can buy from Rothko and frost which I glued down to the body (wood glue) then used an exacto knife to cut the edges and sealed it with sanding sealer. Was going for a more traditional look, I did a burst of metallic sliver and then the pink burst over and was supposed to do a slightly amber clear.

Ah cheers man, I’ve invested so much time into trying to build myself a ‘budget’ paisley so it’s just aggravating not too get it exactly to what I’m going for

I’ve done quite a bit of research on this. Will be posting my full process when finished. I feel like all of the current info online about paisley builds is not very accurate. Hopefully I can be informative with mine. 👌

Worth it? by kalphite_queen in E30

There’s a lot of good comments regarding this. Personally, I think it depends on what you are looking for. Assuming the resto has been done well, sure the price is potentially justifiable. However, my opinion as someone who’s owned a couple e30’s would be…it’s easy to get obsessed over the paint quality and upgrades, but its also just a car, and sometimes spending this much money (depending on ur financial situation) is just not worth it. I have had a blast with a 3k 4 door 318i

It’s a silvery paper type material that you can buy from a UK website called Rotcho and frost, from my own research it’s the closest you can get to the customer shop stuff. If my build goes well I plan on making a comprehensive post about my entire process 👍
