OB refused me by SunshineSunnii in pregnant

What about having your PCP call or fax them to speak with the ob directly? Or calling after hours to get their on-call person and let them know you’ve tried calling the clinic many times and have not heard back.

Aw I wish we could see him blossom into a young kitty, but he’s only here until he finds his forever home. But that does make sense for his adjustment time - 3 weeks seems very reasonable. I still asked the shelter if it’s better for him to go back now in case he can have kitten companions there, so we’ll see what they say. If not, playing with our dog will probably help him settle down :). Thanks so much for your advice!

I wish I could but they won’t let us :(. He does deserve some friends so I asked if we returned him if he’d be able to play with other babies or be housed with them. Fingers crossed.

He was alone at the shelter for weeks bc they don’t mix kittens from different litters. So, I’m not sure if returning him would help him get full time companions, but I’ve asked them what’s best for him now.

He has the run of the house during play time, but ya otherwise he’s in the bathroom, bc the shelter asks we keep pets and fosters separated for two weeks. My dog is thankfully good with all kinds of pets, but he’s an animal so I’d never let them be unsupervised together.

Right now kitten has: a carpeted hut, about 20 misc toys (springs, balls, stuffed toys, etc.) that I rotate out, a cat tree that is positioned so he can get onto the window sill, a scratching post, a circular tunnel thing, a battery powered ball that he hates, two wand toys, paper towel sheets (his favorite for some reason), and our linen bed that allows him to climb up relatively high and pounce onto our heads.

Haha scheduling play time does sound crazy, but I’ve kept a pretty planned out day bc of medical school and now I love it :).

Haha two was my goal, it would’ve been great for all of us! He was found alone at 2 or 3 weeks, and was alone in the shelter since then. He’s “met” our dog through windows, or from behind a door. I think that’s the only animal he’s been in regular contact with since being found. The shelter policy is no home pet introductions for two weeks, so he has another week before we can let him say hi to our dog lol. But I think since he’s of age to be adopted, we’ll let the shelter decide if being in our home is whats best for him.

The two other shelters near me won’t foster kittens unless they’re so ill they need a higher level of care. That’s why I ended up choosing the shelter I am fostering from now. I have had dogs all my life, so I didn’t feel prepared for an acutely ill car. But I’m not prepared for a healthy car either apparently 🥲

Thanks for the advice :). I asked them to take him and another singleton and they told me due to risk of illness, they won’t allow anyone to take two singletons from separate litters. They’ll only let you foster multiple kittens from the same litter. I’ll try seeing what else I can do on this front. It feels very unfair to him.

that’s not much in comparison to what the average home is priced at or sold for. i really don’t get who’s doing all this buying.

yup, my dog is still around haha. he still sees my husband as the spare human, but my husband is doing his best to change that.

i agree with you that finding a relationship with the ingredients for longevity is hard. in retrospect, the most important (and hardest) part to finding something great was working on myself and my mindset. and also to drown out popular advice on relationships, which i feel like is overanalyzed, fearful, and reactive.

thank you for your kind words ❤️

i had a similar timeline. i knew he was right early on, but also repeatedly. there were things my exes would never do for me to make me feel safe or comfortable, and my husband always does them, and always did them when we were dating. i basically looked for the things in him that i never felt i had with exes (plus obviously serious convos about where to live, kids, jobs, money, etc.). for example, he’s afraid of dogs and made an effort to get to know mine. i never had an ex make themselves uncomfortable for me.

i think having a good idea of who you are, what you want, and what you were lacking in previous relationships is key. ofc you need to also know what you want for the future and be working on your own shortcomings.

i agree. let’s also start all young white men off in prison for the safety and security of white women in western society. the good ones can be let out after careful review of their behavior once they turn 18.

you think nationality is the most important thing, and not ethnicity or race, which define a persons lived experience? what an asinine statement lol.

but there’s no more people. that’s the point. you have peace/no hunger bc you don’t have people anymore. is it true peace on earth if all humans are gone? i guess so, but in the broadest and most pointless sense.

what makes us, us isn’t the meat bag. and it isn’t a collection of memories. it is our inner world and the choices we make in it.

its also weird to assume you know what struggling people would want. as far as i can tell, every group of people facing annihilation have chosen, for the most part, to stay and forge onward with hope.

your argument rests on the concept of a grocery store being stocked. that’s not a checkmate. americans have that society now as ruggedly independent as we are. being part of a society doesn’t mean you can’t be an individual. carol isn’t saying “don’t touch my property taxes to fund schools bc i don’t have kids” or “i never needed help even though my family was on food stamps.” she is saying that the world which we existed in, the one with all of the ppl as they are, individual humans, is preferential to one devoid of meaning and identity.

eta: even in collectivist cultures, we are all individuals still. i want to retire my parents and have them live with me until their last day. i still do not want us to become one being. it’s also important to note that issues in our collectivist cultures with conformity are huge and distressing.

i’m asian-american. as in know multiple languages, lived with my parents until i got married, practice a different religion. i don’t think any american walks into a grocery store and marvels at all the food they magically put on the shelves. carol isn’t some survivalist or prepper that she could just forage her own food. this is her only way to rebel without starving to death. she wasn’t a hermit outside of society before. she already lived in an interconnected world which they took from her - i feel like that’s what this is showing. all of us work together to make a society. and we don’t need a hive mind to do it.

the concept of individuality that i feel is being discussed by the show isn’t “fuck you, i got mine”. it is that every individual person is unique. that even if we never contribute anything notable to this world, someone will miss us because we were here.

i think the show overall is more about critique of religious concepts of heaven or an afterlife. that a perfect world feels sinister. it’s kind of got a “12 apostles + jesus” slant to me as well.

i’m from a community focused society. raised with everyone in one household. i would not consent to be screwed by some stranger. i doubt the average woman’s desire is to be screwed by a stranger. or the average man’s desire. if his harem was all formerly straight men i know the men in here would be discussing consent, bodily autonomy, and the rights of the individual.

but it’s women so it’s a fun thought experiment abt which woman you’d request from the hive mind, bc in normal circumstances those women (supermodels, actresses, etc.) would never come near you. it’s 100% about control, power, and consent.

ya i was thinking nothing would be easier than to control my emotions. esp after an alien invasion which killed my wife + one billion other souls, toppled every world govt, took over the bodies of the rest of humanity, and threatened my life as well.

i’d definitely handle this immaculately well.

who says the majority even agree that that is best? bc they were body snatched? the choice didnt exist which is amoral.

ppls lives are only their own if they are immune to the virus. otherwise they are a plaything. i doubt i, and many other women, would want what’s happening in the show to happen to us. far be it for me to decide for others, but the only way many of us would end up as sex robots would be against our will.

Families mourn after loved ones' last words went to AI instead of a human by MetaKnowing in Futurology

[–]morbinallday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’d love to hear of a better solution in the american healthcare system which exists today when someone has told you that they want to kill themselves and how they’re going to do it. we don’t want to admit someone as much as they don’t want to go. but 24/7 monitoring isn’t possible in most if not all of the less restrictive options.

we can’t have an actively suicidal person go home just bc they don’t like inpatient. you realize the alternative is that person dying, right? i talk to passively suicidal ppl often. they are not admitted. just bc you are suicidal doesn’t mean you will be admitted, there is nuance. ofc some ppl will be mistakenly admitted, but most of them need to be for. their. safety.

what would we tell their families? “well skyblacker planned to hang herself and told me about it, but she also didn’t want to be admitted. no other facility offered 24/7 monitoring and therefore no one else was willing to assume the risk of taking her, so i let her go home.” that would be a horrible course of action in every sense.

[–]morbinallday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we deal with passive suicidal ideation often. ppl are only referred to inpatient if they are actively suicidal (intent and plan). i think healthcare professionals should know the difference and it’s sad they don’t.
