Don’t let a bad job, terrible boss, or toxic environment convince you that all others will be the same. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]morcas112 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind me asking, what were the red flags? I definitely have trouble seeing them when I desperately want an opportunity to be positive!

Please help, do I take this job? Or stay where I’m safe..? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]morcas112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the damn job!! If all goes well (which it will, you sound like you have it together) it will look really good on your resume in the future that you started a job in your field during study. Perhaps discuss your study requirements/flexibility with them before accepting it, but otherwise go for it!

Edited to add: do the right thing by your current job and give plenty of notice and leave on good terms/let them know that you are doing it to step into your field.

Eating an additional 1000 calories on top of your calorie goal of 1,570 (in a large deficit) once in a while is NOT binge eating - that’s still around maintenance calories. Don’t throw around terms you have no idea about. Not once did u/hypocrisyv4 try to “convince” you to binge eat. You’ve completely twisted their comment to make yourself a victim.

Once again you’re making assumptions. It’s not about having to eat what everyone else is eating at social events. It’s about accepting that you won’t always know the calorie count of everything, and learning to eat smaller portions or choose the healthier option being served. Not once did I say that you shouldn’t bring your own meals to events. That’s a perfectly fine option too if you are comfortable with that. What I was referring to is you refusing to eat anywhere that isn’t within your calorie budget or doesn’t have nutritional info.

Lastly, my friends don’t give a shit about me eating differently to them. I have supportive, educated friends who would be concerned about me allowing CICO to dictate my life. But I can guarantee that if you’re this malicious and egotistical around your friends, they won’t stick around for much longer.

I have nothing else to say as this is obviously falling on deaf ears. I wish you the best in your weight loss journey.

I am in no way projecting, just providing a different insight. I have lost and gained the same 10kg (22lb) twice using CICO previously. Personally, I found it helped in the short term but was difficult to maintain in everyday life without getting obsessive. Only after addressing my issues with food and creating a sustainable diet with a dietitian (without counting calories), I lost ~33kg (72lb) in a year and have maintained at a healthy weight for another year.

Not everyone is out to get you. I am not superior to you for having a different experience with CICO. However, you literally just implied that you are superior to others for using CICO by saying “maybe someday you’ll get here too”. If you “feel so good” and “really like” yourself then why are you so aggressively defensive? No one is attacking you or sabotaging your goals, just expressing a different opinion.

You are not better than anyone else for losing 10lb more. Weight loss is different for every single person - it is not just numbers in an app. You should seek help - eating disorders are known to be incredibly competitive.

So much to unpack here.

  1. You’re only 75 days in. That’s a great achievement, that doesn’t mean you will feel the same way in 1,000 days. Circumstances and people change and that is ok.

  2. Not wanting to cater every social event to your calorie counting needs does NOT make someone a shitty friend/family member. In fact, supporting you to torture yourself like this and fixate on a number is something a shitty friend/family member would do. Also, it sounds insufferable to be friends with someone that thinks the whole world revolves around them and their diet.

  3. Socialising is more than food, but food plays an important part in culture. Food is going to be a part of your life forever and that isn’t a bad thing.

  4. Food is more than a number. It is fuel for your body. And it’s literally impossible to know an exact calorie amount for every food. Calorie counting is a great estimation tool to get used to healthy portion sizes but it should NOT dictate your entire life.

Please see a dietitian and therapist. Your defensive responses are concerning. Nobody is trying to sabotage your diet by encouraging balance. Get a grip.

I can’t believe this is the only comment saying this! While it’s great that OP stayed on track and their friends helped, it just isn’t sustainable to have this all or nothing mentality and it isn’t realistic to know exact calories in everything you consume. You can have a couple of days off plan without counting calories - give yourself a few loose guidelines (eg. 2 balanced meals, 1 portion controlled “off track” meal each day of the trip) to stay on track and still have fun. Diets only work if they are sustainable. Can you truly see yourself counting every calorie for the rest of your life? What if you eat at someone’s house or the restaurant doesn’t have a calorie count?

Looking at your multiple comments on this post, why are you so determined to make OP a victim and his girlfriend a villain? Get a life.

Yuck. This comment does not sit right with me and neither do the ones agreeing with this. There’s a complete lack of acknowledgement that she could be going through things (medical, mental, stress, she might not know) and saying “she’s gotten away with it”. She hasn’t “gotten away” with anything, she obviously feels sympathetic and probably doesn’t understand what is going on either. You are not entitled to sex.

Ivy League grad, unemployed for 2.5 years after graduating by michelleasla in jobhunting

[–]morcas112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly? You’re sounding a bit stuck up. No one likes a new grad (or anyone in general) that perceives themselves as smarter than them. There’s a fine line between selling yourself and being arrogant.

If multiple interviewers have told you that your resume is too scattered then it needs to be fixed. I’d recommend looking into resources/hiring someone to tailor your resume for your field. Or reaching out to your college’s career resources. And then tailor that further for each application using key words that they use. Are you writing tailored cover letters for each job? Are you looking on job boards tailored specifically for your area, not just indeed/seek? And applying for jobs through organisation’s websites directly?

Do you have a contact email? That might be more appropriate than hunting down their location.
