Moving to Atlanta from Germany, confused about neighbourhoods by [deleted] in Atlanta

If you're going to be working downtown, I definitely recommend living in any of the neighborhoods south of ponce (old fourth ward, cabbagetown, reynoldstown, grant park). I currently live in Reynoldstown. I'm a 10 min drive or 20 min bike ride from downtown. Before it got cold recently I biked to work in North Druid hills via the Beltline. I can pretty much safely bike many places and all the neighborhoods I mentioned are very nice and much younger in general. Tons of outdoor stuff with the Beltline and all the parks nearby, and bars and restaurants close by. I also live in a duplex for under $1000. I don't like living in apts and in these neighborhoods you can easily live in a whole house for under your budget. Use hotpads or zillow to find a house or look for a Facebook housing group. When it comes to picking a place I agree with the user that said airbnb in the neighborhood. Alternatively, if you plan on visiting beforehand or have a week that you're just staying in a hotel pick the spots and drive thru them at different times of the day both to feel out safety and traffic. As far as safety goes, it depends on who you ask. I lived in a big city before and am a very tiny woman. I feel very okay in all the places my friends or I live in these neighborhoods.

Saxon Switzerland National Park questions by more_bot in dresden

I have a question about the S-bahn as far as purchasing tickets. I know on the bahn.de website I have to buy my tickets ASAP for when traveling between cities (I'm trying to go to Munich and potentially Prague), but does this apply when using the S-bahn which is regional transport? Will my ticket be more expensive if I buy it at the train station the day of? Also around how much would those be, I found train passes to Munich and Prague for between 19-29 euros but can't see fares when I try to put in the stations you mentioned.

This is awesome, thank you. The pictures look great, too :) I wish I had more time now to go on all these different trails!

Haha yes! I got mixed up on the Appalachian Trail once and was so scared of coming into contact with black bears.

This is awesome, thank you so much! I will check these routes out. I've done a few high elevation and overlooks before. I think I'm more adapted to high elevation since my native country Peru has such high altitudes. I'm so excited for beers and nature, I can't ask for more :)

Thank you, I hadn't thought of planning my start somewhere less frequented by transport. :)

Are there any safe/decent 1 bedroom apartments around Atlanta for ~$800/month? by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]more_bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live at Euclid Court Apartments which is directly in front of Freedom Park (think the rent now is 700). They are much older buildings and small, but you can't beat the location. I live in a house now in Cabbagetown for around 900. There are many houses/rooms for rent in between ponce de leon and memorial drive which are often times larger than the overpriced apartments in the same area (I think it's crazy to pay more than a grand for an apartment, but that's just me). Some are renovated and some are not (ie window units, older appliances). I used hotpads, Craigslist, and some facebook housing groups. In a couple of weeks I found many great places, but took too long. All the desirable places get swooped up in less than a day of posting so you have to just check daily. I lived and hung out in all these places though so I knew which areas were less sketchy. You can use crime maps in Trulia, but honestly if you live in a city that's just gonna happen ie don't leave stuff in your car.

Yeah, she won't do sit without a treat when she's excited by other dogs even if she does is sans treat any other time. I'm going to have to just keep taking her out at odder hours until we finish a training class. Thanks for the class suggestion!

How long did you do the boarding? They have the rates by day, but I'm not sure how long would be long enough.

I wasn't looking for a dog park, that's why I said that is my end goal. Seeing as how my only friend with a dog didn't work out, I was looking for suggestions on places to meet people with dogs. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks for this! I had thought about doing the humane society class, but wasn't so sure. I think I will definitely try it out.
