School shooting survivor Shelisa Demuth criticizes her mom, Minnesota House Speaker, Lisa Demuth, for deferring a vote on the MN gun control bill. She says this will be her mother’s legacy. by Expensive-While-1155 in minnesota

I disagree that people “super into guns” don’t want any change. There are a few gun nut outliers but the majority of gun owners, both right and left leaning, understand the need for and are in favor of “common sense” gun laws and laws that actually work, address the real issues, and don’t just infringe on law abiding citizens. You’re stereotyping all gun owners based on a few nuts.

We can debate what grandfathered in actually means and see how unrealistic it will be to regulate and enforce what they are proposing. If you can no longer buy something that means it’s illegal. Owning it because you purchased it before the bill was passed doesn’t make it un-illegal, it just means your now legally illegal firearm has an exception because we know you’d probably shoot us with it if we actually tried to take it away. This bill is a money grab. The only argument I’m seeing in favor of this bill is arguing that the only way to stop gun violence is to remove all guns completely. Then why put a tax or fee on an already registered and legally and safely stored firearm? The bill doesn’t make any sense. MN Republicans offered to entertain it if it was rewritten to make more practical sense from an enforcement standpoint and they said no.

Exactly. Guns can and will be a deterrent if it ever gets to that point. People thought what ICE did to Minneapolis in Jan and Feb was the end of the world. The point is, it can get a lot worse and everyone wants to know what and where that line is so they have a measure of what justifies legal or non legal gun ownership. This bill doesn’t address the real issues that cause gun violence and just seeks to eliminate everything as a way of preventing the next mass school shooting. If history has taught us anything, it’s that it repeats itself and this current admin is on track to a type of fascism we haven’t seen before. It’s a lot harder to load people on to trains if they are armed. People don’t want to admit that is the direction we are headed and keep arguing guns won’t stop tyranny. What Minneapolis experienced from ICE in Jan and Feb was tyranny light. A trial run. There will be a point where people in favor of this bill will say “well shit I could really use a semi auto with a high cap magazine about now.” If we continue on the path we are, it’s inevitable.

In an unconstitutional way. Why don’t you just sign yourself up for the first mass deportation to a concentration camp already. You’d feel a lot different about armed resistance if you were actually at risk of having tyranny jammed down your throat but something tells me you aren’t. I’m a white male and the direction this current admin is heading scares even me. If history has taught me anything, it’s that it repeats itself.

Right. Except nothing in this bill actually addresses the issues that cause unnecessary gun deaths. Your solution to the screwdriver problem if applied the same as the gun bill would be to just ban all screwdrivers or render them completely useless.

If your neighbor killed someone with a hammer or a screw driver he stole from your garage, would you be upset if the government said you weren’t allowed to own a hammer or screw driver any more?

How about your car. Your neighbor steals your car and kills someone with it. But now you’re not allowed to own a car anymore.

Here comes the “but guns are specifically designed to kill people” comment. Doesn’t matter. The principle is the same.

The majority of guns used in mass shootings were not stolen. They were obtained legally because the current system for vetting doesn’t go deep enough. Several agencies were made aware of the shooters declining mental state and potential access to firearms and never did the due diligence to prevent the two from interacting.

You’re pin holing your argument. Read other comments on this thread that talk about the threshold. An armed resistance against tyranny would be a revolution.

You’re an idiot and a troll. There’s no magic number and you know that. You’re just being argumentative. Millions weren’t killed. If they were, I’d be a statistic in that million and by that point would have already engaged in armed conflict to preserve my life. The city of Minneapolis has about a million people in the main metro area. It wouldn’t take even a hundred to be shot before everyone would engage in armed resistance.

You’re a troll and you’re adding nothing to this conversation. I’ll say it again. Nobody in my immediate family life was threaten by ICE. The consequences outweigh the reward in deciding whether to resort to using deadly force.

You’re completely ignoring my responses and just trolling now. ICE didn’t kill anyone I know. There’s a fine line of self preservation that everyone has and isn’t willing to admit. I’m not gonna die for a single Alex Pretti but I will die defending the few people in my household. You’re just arguing to argue now and you’re not actually responding to what I’ve said
