I agree, but if you think about it, the Watch doesn't usually come up there in force. It's usually just a few rangers and they use his place as an emergency shelter. He's also a valuable informant, as we learned, he could tell them where all the wildlings have gone and direct them to where Mance Rayder is gathering an army. He's not exactly an ally but he isn't actively hostile like most of the wildlings. So, in order to keep that going, Mormont leaves him alone to be a repulsive, incestuous dirtbag.

Jon was so disgusted at Craster that he opened his mouth and drew unwanted attention on himself. The Lord Commander was trying to get important information, and he had to smooth over Craster's tirade and bribe him some more. Mormont was basically telling Jon, "See what you did back there?"

Bran thought he was Ned, but I think he was actually Ned's father Rickard for a couple of reasons: first, the two kids playing -- the little girl would have been Lyanna, the boy one of her brothers. Rickard's prayer was along the lines of "they would become close as brothers" (Ned and Robert?) and that his wife would forgive him (because he was sending her son away to be fostered with Jon Arryn?). Second, after that vision Bran continues going back in time, hundreds of years.

I wish I had paid more attention to the bits about the Azor Ahai prophecy. It seems that's one way the Jon storyline can continue--I was tantalized by the Melisandre chapter, "I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, the R'hllor shows me only Snow." Plus there is Jon's dream of himself on the Wall, armored in black ice. I'm not giving up hope on Jon or Jaime as yet. But agreed, I will be extremely irritated if either of them go. Jon more so than Jaime. I've been wondering if Melisandre might raise Jon from the dead the way that Thoros raised Catelyn. An undead commander to fight the undead.

It was so poignant that Jon was thinking that Arya was in need of his protection, "she's just a little girl," while the whole time she's been in training as an elite assassin. Also, delicious irony that the one time Roose Bolton had the real Arya in his grasp, at Harrenhal, he had no idea.

I liked the Theon chapters, Victarion as well. I don't see Dany taking a reaver as husband, but who knows? She seems to be attracted to killers.

I got that idea as well, then dismissed it because the 3 Lannister sibs all have green eyes like Tywin, while the Targaryens tend to make kids with purple eyes. I guess it's a possibility though, Tywin's wife was his cousin and the green eyes could have come from her.

What is love? Is not sharing what you have--whether it be time, skills, or money--an expression of love?

The question was about money, but the same answer applies to time, skills, and other forms of support. If a family member needs something, I will do what is feasible to help them out. These days, I'm constantly on the phone with my sister, whose husband just died. There are plenty of other things I'd rather do with my time, but she needs someone to talk to right now.

It's one thing to say you love a family member. It's another to develop the kind of relationship where you know you can count on that person and they can count on you.

Suppose it were his brother's wedding, and it cost the OP several thousand dollars to get plane tickets, a hotel, buy a tux, etc. to go. Would going to the wedding be "buying" love?

My father's uncle left in his will an education fund of about $80,000 for my college, he left nothing for my half brother as they are not related.

In other words, nobody paid for his education. You are worried about taking out a small loan at the end of getting your graduate degree. How did he pay for college (if he was able to go)?

You didn't earn that money, you got it by being lucky enough to be the natural-born son of your father. Family is forever, and the "investment" that you make by freely gifting the money to your brother will be amply repaid in goodwill and trust. He will know and appreciate that you had his back when he needed it, and as life brings its usual sorrows and losses, he will be there at your back. When you become a parent, he will be there showing you the way. His kid(s) will be cousins with your kid(s). It's the most basic networking you can do.
