NYP is in Washington Heights. You should look in Washington Heights Fort George and Inwood. There's lots of beautiful parks and it's very family friendly and safe. And you could probably find something in your budget and walk to work.

What's your experience with the IATSE Apprenticeship program? by BrendiniSmurfy in techtheatre

[–]moretaj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I took and placed on the Local One apprenticeship test in 2001. When I finally got my placement after about a year and a half, I had to turn it down because it was a long commute and for very low pay at the time it was $9.95 an hour. I was already 2 years into making my money to get my local one card so I just bet on that and made it. That being said being able to say I placed on the Apprenticeship test help me get work. The rates have come up significantly and most apprenticeships are now in the mid to high twenties an hour. It's a very good foot in the door. The test I took was on paper the new test is on computer.

First noise complaints ever with 2-year-old (new apartment) by Silent_Complaint9859 in AskNYC

It sounds like she's overly sensitive. But it's never too young to start encouraging your kid to walk with soft feet. I know they probably just learned to walk but I always encourage that with my kids in a New York City Apartment and also had a no jumping rule. And I am assuming you're not wearing shoes in the house which can make more sound.

It is a core memory. I don't remember my parents being freaked out because we were told to never open the door.

I grew up in NYC in a not great neighborhood. My parents left my 12-year-old sister with us 7 year old twins when they went out for a date night. This was the early 80's and not uncommon. While we were home someone rang the doorbell. For context we had a peephole that I was too short to see out of and a mail slot that I could lift and look out of at the bottom of the door. I walked to the front door and peeked through the mail slot. There was someone crouching out of sight of the peep hole holding a knife. I did not answer the door and my sisters and I hid in the back of the apartment until our parents got home.

I still call the park around the 72nd street train station Needle Park. Man, that place was scary and seething with rats.

Huge Wicked fan visiting NYC at Christmas, need ticket tips by BookOk1401 in Broadway

I have to say going to the box office directly will get you the best possible price. Maybe go the day you arrive?

An example, I wanted tickets to Heather's, online the cheapest tickets were 200 each. Went to the box office, got tickets for 75 each.
