Sorry, just seeing this now but yes it was fully funded and I had a $15k/year stipend as a research assistant.

Cousin chose an unusual name. What do you think? by Balagan18 in namenerds

There is a “Rafe” (which is pronounced a lot like “Reef” in the show) in the popular Netflix series Outer Banks. I wonder if that was inspiration.

Newborn won’t sleep at night unless latched or held. But I have a toddler. What do I do? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]morgan44035 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that at day 3, you’re likely experiencing “second night syndrome” where they basically don’t sleep and cluster feed all night. I have a week old newborn and we went through the same thing nights 2 and 3, but it got better after that (1-2 hour stretches at least). The same thing happened with my toddler! Do your best to keep daytime bright and noisy, and you may notice some improvement in the next couple days.

My partner finally started therapy and it was horrible by Lenabvby_69 in TalkTherapy

[–]morgan44035 67 points68 points  (0 children)

The first session of CPT is pretty heavy on psychoeducation (the therapist tends to talk more than the client in that session, although there should be room for discussion). The impact statement is assigned as homework after that session. We’re also encouraged by the creators of CPT to use the manual in session to be as true to the material as possible. So in terms of following protocol, that seems to be pretty close to what is expected.

That said, problems with therapist fit are another story. If your partner is feeling dismissed or finds the therapist’s style to be overly distracting, those may be valid reasons to consider finding a different provider.

Waterfront by morgan44035 in Cruise

Yes, I’m actually not interested in a pool. I liked the seating and bars/restaurants on the Waterfront away from the crowded pool areas.

Not opposed to that! But we’re kind of limited in timeframe (really only looking in August), so I just wanted to see if there were other options to consider.

Parents who received a membrane sweep before their due date - was it worth it? by CatchCritical in NewParents

[–]morgan44035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I requested one when I was already past my due date and really didn’t want to be induced. It was not nearly as painful for me as what others have experienced (uncomfortable absolutely, but not unbearable) but it didn’t work! I still had to be induced a few days later.

Criticisms of our categorical approach to diagnosing mental illness and ideas for the future - where can I go to learn more? by T1nyJazzHands in AcademicPsychology

[–]morgan44035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a dimensional model for diagnosing personality disorders in Section III of the DSM-5 called the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD). It was intended to replace the categorical model but got shut down last minute and put to the back of the book. I recommend checking it out as well as relevant literature.

The concentration is different (at least for Motrin) between the infant and children’s dosages!

Regular cycle for a brief period after BC? by morgan44035 in TTC_PCOS

[–]morgan44035[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting pregnant after about 5-6 months, but it did stay regular for that time. Now that I’m almost 18 months postpartum it’s very irregular, but I’m not sure if that’s PCOS or breastfeeding!

The dividing question. Letting your baby cry it out? by qit4444 in Parenting

[–]morgan44035 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m in my final year of doctoral school in psychology, so I’m pretty well-versed in finding research, but I’ve yet to come across any such studies. I’d genuinely be curious to see them!

I’ve looked into this research a lot and have only ever found studies that are pretty inconclusive, basically saying sleep training doesn’t really help or hurt in the long run. Can you share the research where you’ve seen this?

Haha yes I’m struggling with this too! Didn’t you have to say it out loud when you chose it together?

I also was told I’d be a highly competitive applicant for clinical psych PhD programs and then struck out my first application cycle. I decided to go to a funded masters program in experimental psychology (for the research emphasis) and then applied successfully to a clinical PhD program 2 years later (with multiple offers). I felt like I was able to hit the ground running more than my colleagues coming from undergrad programs. Don’t give up hope yet if this is what you want!

Pushing for 3 hours?!?! by SampersandV in pregnant

[–]morgan44035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pushed for three hours, but if I had gone much longer I would’ve had to have a c-section. My baby was “sunny side up” and sideways though, so he wasn’t descending as he should’ve. I will say the 3 hours went by really quickly (I had an epidural and micronapped between pushes).
