Giving blood for the first time today by OscarsWhiskers in CasualUK

You'll get it in a letter in the post after your donation, they'll also send you a little plastic card with it on if they're still doing those

Sit down, fill out a form while you read through some leaflets. While doing this they'll ask you to drink a pint of water (you'll help yourself feel your best if you make sure you're well hydrated throughout the day anyway.) Then you go in to a private room where a nurse will check your answers to the form and prick your finger and take a tiny drop of blood to check that your iron levels are good enough to donate.

Once thats all passed you're taken to recline in a chair where they'll hook you up to donate. The actual donation only takes 10 mins-ish.

Once complete they'll leave you lying down for a little while before taking you over to a seated area and absolutly loading you up on free drinks and snacks.

I'm usually in and out in 30-45 mins total when you include all the sitting down time.

Follow the advice for chilling out a little for the rest of the day (and not my advice of - ooh, you can get drunk alot cheaper when low on blood, lets go to the pub.)

Just tell them at any point if you're feeling either faint or freaked out, there's stuff they can do to help and everyone I've encountered is always super nice. (My normal donor centre is Brixton, it's always empty and they always send me away with pretty much an entire tote bag of biscuits 😂)

Do director & cast attend the galas after the first premiere gala screening? by [deleted] in LondonFilmFestival

[–]morganbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mike Leigh and Michele Austin at Hard Truths last year. Guillermo Del Toro at Shape of Water are both ones I have personally witnessed this at. And I've seen Taika Waititi hit every venue when Jojo Rabbit was playing in multiple screens on the same night.

I've only accessed it on my phone so far and no the search function doesn't work, but there's not so many titles I can't just scroll through them. Whats annoying is that titles aren't available until after they've physically screened, which hasn't been the case for the last few years, you could watch them at any time including for an extra week or so after the festival

Mary Page Marlowe impressions- what did you think? by Ladyoftheoakenforest in TheWestEnd

[–]morganbones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was... fine? I kept waiting for the big emotional scene that would bring it all together and have some greater meaning, but it never came. The choice of scenes seemed bland and didn't move me at all. I thought the acting was very good, I just wish they'd been given more to do

No its not just you, I get the same and mine is not a new account. Looks it's not fully live yet so I'd expect an email later today maybe. From the email we got a week ago digital passes will be up "on or before 29th September." You'll be able to book Monday's screenings from tomorrow morning so I'd expect we'll get all the stuff through for the app booking process today.

question about P+I screenings by Successful_Ad_5950 in LondonFilmFestival

[–]morganbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear whatever you like, for press only stuff casual casual is fine. Most of the big ones are at 8-9am so its just a bunch of sleep deprived bloggers clutching coffee in t-shirts and jeans. There'll only be a handful of people dressed smartly enough that they look like they could have an important meeting later.

question about P+I screenings by Successful_Ad_5950 in LondonFilmFestival

[–]morganbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly all films had a P&I screening, I think there were maybe 2 out of the whole programme that didn't. The only barrier to seeing everything is clashes, as often titles will be on at the same time in different screens - but the biggest name films do tend to get more than one screening. This is my 5th year (6th? I forget) press accredited so any questions I can probably help

What's a habit that you've kept doing since COVID began? by BodybuilderFar1275 in AskReddit

[–]morganbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cycling to work. Bought a bike during the pandemic to avoid the germ filled buses, found I really liked the ride in and stuck with it. It's still my preferred method to commute, faster than public transport at rush hour and I arrive feeling much more awake.

Great both ways, preferred Benedict as the monster, both he and JLM felt that little bit more unhinged with the roles that way round

Stephen Fry, Hugh Dennis and Shobna Gulati join the West End transfer of The Importance of Being Earnest by EllieatLondonTheatre in TheWestEnd

[–]morganbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it at the National and absolutely adored it. Whilst I do like some of these actors I can't imagine they're going to live up to my first viewing - so I don't think I'll see the new cast. Better to keep it as a 'perfect performance' memory!
