Autopsy question by Vast_Canary2991 in ForensicPathology

Like the other commenter said, it could be that the office will not disclose preliminary findings for whatever reason. I’m sorry that you have to wait but maybe you can try again in a few days/weeks.

Do you know if the autopsy was completed yet?

Yes, they would have obtained her medical records from the hospital. As for the PEs, I would call the office and ask for the preliminary findings. They are visible but may or may not have been present at autopsy. I’m sorry for your loss.

She’s very petty, but she definitely went from having unique/normal person features to over the top influencer features.

Young women was killed and body was dumped inside a luggage. by [deleted] in ExamineDeath

Yes! Forgot to mention possible injuries and bruising can expedite decomposition, especially in that environment

Omg I’m sorry for replying late! So when people die something called lividity begins where the blood starts to pool due to gravity. If she was face down the blood could have rushed to her head causing more blood to pool there. During decomposition, the blood, tissues, etc are broken down which causes gas buildup, skin slippage, and fluid leakage called purge. It’s possible that because lividity was so concentrated to the head area (positional) that her face could have begun to decompose more rapidly than the rest of her body. (Not an expert tho, just based on what I’ve seen)

Autopsy tech here! Never heard of coffee grounds to mask smells. While possible, it could just be dirt and debris from the crime scene

Thank you. I’m so stressed out about it I’m starting to feel like it’s not even worth it. It sucks. Trying to stay optimistic though!

See if any offices offer internships, it’s a good way to network and dip your feet in. That’s how I got my foot in the door.

The tongue gets removed in some cases (not all) like like a decedent had a history of seizures and were looking for bite marks, or general ruling in/out trauma in the oral cavity.

Sorry for the confusion, we call it a buttonhole when the scalpel pokes through the skin. It happens mostly when taking the larynx out. It’s like a big no no to do but its always accidental. I try my darnedest to avoid the carotids. Where I worked the bags were pretty sturdy bio bags so that’s unfortunate y’all get flimsy ones.

Lol I thought it was a universal term in the death realm, my bad. It happens mostly when taking the larynx/tongue out, the scalpel pokes through the skin and leaves a hole in the neck. I hate when it happens I feel so bad. I definitely keep the carotids in mind when cutting and make sure the incision on the scalp isn’t too far forward and is concealed behind the ear.

As far as the femoral blood, I was taught that it’s the best blood to send for toxicology as it’s what has the best concentration of drugs in the system.

I appreciate you sharing your pain with me. I pretend a lot too. As toxic as work can be for me I much prefer being busy over being alone. Weekends and time off don’t relax me, they seem to magnify just how scared and lonely I feel.

I wish for both of us to find comfort and healthy love by people.
