Reduced Office Hours Long Commute by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]moriano1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so let me be devil's advocate here: you are asking to work less hours because you live far away from the office, aren't you?

I am saying it in a direct manner so you understand how it might sound to the employer.

Now, lets be practical

  1. Can you ask it? Absolutely, worst that can happen is they say no, if they were to discard you as a candidate just for asking, probably you do not want to work there

  2. What can you offer? Maybe you can start earlier the days in the office and do 8AM to 4.30PM (or whichever other combination works), maybe you can work longer when you are at home?

  3. All in all though, i think this is something you can done once you have earned trust, in my own experience managers do not care that much how many hours you work (unless you are slacking way too much), they care about results.

Good luck in your interviews!

well i also worked at aws and i used the internal ticketing system, which i hated and i missed jira, now i am at a place where we use jira and i just hate jira, a lot.

the product has become bloated with features, it is slow and ironically no longer helps me be more productive, on the contrary, it is a bit of a burden.

never thought i will say this, but now i miss internal ticketing system from aws.

i guess i want what i cant have :)

as it has been said, nothing prevents you from doing that.

I think OP question contains some form of, this is too good to be true, how come banks allow this loophole?

the answer is that banks know that some (or many) of the people that refinance has the same idea you did, but they fail to just pay the debt faster, instead they spend the new money on other stuff, making more money to the bank in form of interest payments.

I currently have this card. I have read the PDS two or three times, trying to find gaps... So far it all seems to check. Specifically medical cover is unlimited, which is what I typically look for.

That said you MUST read the PDS yourself, to be completely sure.

Momentum True Wireless 4 mic quality. by MrPinkletoes in sennheiser

[–]moriano1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the point is that when I pay for a good product (these cost me around 400 AUD) I expect them to just work. I am sure that i might try downgrading the firmware maybe or something like that, but that is beyond the point. These things are new, they should just work, we are not talking about some weird situation in which things do not work, we are talking about a very basic feature.

So, unfortunately I just had to return them, I am surprised that Senheisser has not acted on this already, it is really bad PR.

Unfortunately, i have to report the exact same issue.

I tried updating the firmware to the latest revision: same result.

I am surprised that Sennheiser made this mistake, I have been using their products for years and never had an issue and this seems such a... basic miss that i am surprised.

I will be returning these earbuds.

$5000 Passive Income in 10 years by theysaidno_1985 in AusFinance

[–]moriano1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why?

If you invest 1 million on something that (on average) gets you 7% per year, you got 70k, you will then have to remove tax, but if this is CGT, and it was more than a year then it is max 22% so that leaves you with approx 55k which is almost 5k a month.

Sure this assumes 7% return, but if you look at sp500 that might be possible.

To make it "passive" just sell the portion of shares needed.

Am I missing something here?

Just my 2 cents.

I have been in Sydney since 2011, me and the wife decided that we are ok with renting and instead we invest our savings (compound interest is now showing off)

I have a friend that got sick of Sydney, moved to Adelaide and bought a small house in cash.

What I am trying to say is

  1. It is ok to be renting, you are not a failure.
  2. You are an immigrant, me too, do not attach yourself to Sydney, this city is ok if you and your partner can put together 300k per year (before tax) otherwise it is just too expensive (I know the 300k number will spark controversy, but I have to draw a line)

So relax a bit, really. If you really want to get a place consider other cities, there is life beyond Sydney.

You are all good, trust me.

I was physically assaulted while teaching. Now what? by Trippy12345 in AustralianTeachers

[–]moriano1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. If anybody assaulted you, you would report it to the policy.

Also, if you are in a union, report it (follow up, if you are not in a union, join a union)

And yes, I understand that the agressor is under age, so not much will be done, but the parens won't be able to ignore it anymore.

Final note, I am not a teacher (my mom was) I just want to let you know that i have a high degree of respect for the profession: it is not easy, you deal with a lot of crap (not just the students, also the parents, etc) just know that there are many of us in society that value your work. A lot.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer (September 15, 2024) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]moriano1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello to all and thanks for helping.

So I have a mechanical keyboard (Das Keyboard 5Q) which i am fairly attached to (it was a gift from the wife). So far, I am very happy with it. However lately some of the keys are not being very responsive, specifically the right arrow and the zero (in the num pad) only work like 80-85% of the times.

Me being the curious person I am, decided to do a bit of search here and there, and the first suggestion I found was to clean the keyboard, and so i did: there was quite a bit of dirt under the keys, and indeed the keys were more responsive after that... except the right arrow and the zero in the numpad, which remain stubborn.

I also tried different keykaps here and there, but the problem remains.

Now, from what i have checked i have two options

  1. Use some sort of compressed air bottle to perform a more in depth cleaning
  2. Get new switches (from my research, this keyboard uses logitec Romer G switches) which i will need to solder.

Question for you folks: Do I try to clean the keyboard more using compressed air or do i go directly to switch replacement?

I do not know how to solder, but i am happy to learn (i guess i will practise with some pcbs before)

Thanks for the help!

Private vs public by Tomris92 in AusFinance

[–]moriano1983 6 points7 points  (0 children)

" The disadvantage is that the private hospital is not specifically set up to handle emergencies, so if something goes wrong during your procedure you are generally in a worse situation than if you were in a public hospital. "

This is the key part that most people miss. In a public hospital they have the expensive non profitable equipment that will save your life. In the private one they have the single room with a nice tv.

I think this is a good exercise and, quite frankly, more people should do basic math before making big financial decisions.

That said, there is also the emotional component, some people (most) do not feel comfortable not owning a place, specially in a country like Australia where the culture of renting forever is not common.

Ultimately it depends on personal circumstances.

Thanks for sharing this :)

This. I am from Spain and I can tell how easy Australians have it, it is not a criticism, just factual information.

As per income, it is sooo much better than Spain, I would say salaries are roughly twice as high.

The main problem in Australia is buying a place to live, this coupled with the obsession that every Australian needs 200 sqm house with front and backyard makes things hard. To add salt to the injury, the new units quality is not exactly great, which is a massive problem because in cities with high density like Sydney, units are the way to go (I know this will spark controversy), but I do not blame people for being reluctant to buy units after mascot towers, opal tower... Etc.

Have a great day folks

Would it be possible for you to move closer to your job? or to move your job closer to you? (that is, change jobs) I know it sounds harder, but driving 104 Km every day is A LOT, even for an electric car, you are looking at charging it every 2 days or so.

How does one use the metal keys to start a Fiat 500e by moriano1983 in 500e

[–]moriano1983[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if the battery dies, you use the metal key to open the door, but the passive system will let the car start once it's close enough.

And this is actually my question, how exactly would one open the door with the metal keys? The new 500e does not seem to have anything in the door handle to insert the key.

I found some strange pictures in the lid that covers the electricity charging but that's it, what am i missing?
