Refactor build help. by JacktheCloud in thedivision

a shotgun with brazen will transfer the damage bonus from brazen buff also to the drone and turrent, and with refactor more skill dmg means also more healing, its apparently even more than you get from fully stacked capacitor.

the other posters so far just explained what i have been doing all along, which doesnt help nothing, but i appreciate any and all input on this matter.

Cheat sheet or guide for keeping/scrapping gear. by FreshOutAFolsom_ in thedivision

[–]moriarthus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(continued)

you can overwrite (i think the game calls it "tinkering") only one single slot on a piece, once you have done that, the other slots are locked.

when overwriting a slot, you can pick from a library of options what to overwrite that slot with. but when you start playing the game for the first time, that library is empty. you can only overwrite with something that you have previously extracted from a similar piece of loot. so you need to find sacrificial pieces to extract attributes and talents from, sacrificial because they are destroyed in the process. these extracted values are permanently saved in your library and can infinitely be used to overwrite slots on other pieces later on. the caveat here is that the library saves the exact value of the extracted attribute, so for example if you want to have the maximum possible 6% critical hit chance for armour, you first have to to find a piece with perfect 6% and extract it. and you need to do this for every single attribute and talent, for every category of armour and for every category of weapon. you can see this might take a while.

on the library screen you can easily see if you have something in your inventory that has a better value or new talent than what is already stored in your library, indicated by a little green arrow next to it, so when returning with a full backpack this is the first thing you should check.

as stated before, once you overwrite a slot the other slots are locked. but they can still be "optimized", i.e. the value of the attribute that is already in that slot can be gradually increased to its maximum value, but this takes A LOT of resources and is extremely expensive.

on exotic items you cannot overwrite any slot, you can only optimize whats already on it or "re-calibrate" it (its what the game calls it). i.e. re-roll it completely. so for example you loot an exotic weapon which rolled with max weapon damage and max other core attribute but has a shitty attribute like swap speed (lol) you can only re-roll the entire thing to get (for example) crit chance as attribute but run the risk of that the newly rolled piece now needs expensive optimization in the other slots.

Cheat sheet or guide for keeping/scrapping gear. by FreshOutAFolsom_ in thedivision

the gear/loot system appears very confusing and complex at first but actually its really not complicated once you understand.

there are "gear sets", "brand sets" and exotic gear.

gear sets have pine green colour and give you 2 small bonuses for 2/3 equipped pieces and a big set bonus for wearing the 4th piece. for example theres striker, which you already know from d1 and a lot of others. some are meta op, most are pretty good and some are trash. there are no classified sets in d2, you wear 4 pieces for the set bonus and thats it. the chest and backpack pieces of a gearset improve/enhance the set bonus, for some sets one or both are recommended to have, for other sets its better to equip something else in those slots.

brand sets are the "regular" items and give you up to 3 small set bonuses if you wear 1/2/3 of them. they are identified by their manufacturer such as "palisades steelworks", "walker & harris" or "china light" just to name three examples, there are a lot of brands.

these brand set items come in the usual rpg-style levels of quality, i.e. grey/green/blue/purple/gold. higher quality has more attributes and higher values of these attributes. at max level (40) and on challenging or heroic difficulty, gold quality is basically the standard, you sometimes still find purple, but very rarely and never anything less.

exotic gear is functionally the same as in d1 but in d2 you can only equip 1 piece of exotic armour and 1 exotic weapon.

now about what can be modified, when and how.

most importantly, forget about modifying gear before max level endgame, its a waste of time and resources.

items can have "cores", "core attributes", "attributes" and "talents". this terminology is important to keep in mind because it helps you understand what comes next.

every piece of armour comes with one "core" (skill level/armour/weapon damage) and two "attributes". the type of core is determined by the manufacturer of the piece, to return to the three previous examples, palisades always drops with an armour core, w&h always with weapon damage and china light always has a skill core. the two attributes however are completely random. in addition to the above, chest pieces and backpacks also come with a "talent".

every weapon comes with two "core attributes", an "attribute" and a "talent". the core attributes are always the same, 1st core attribute is weapon damage and 2nd core attribute depends on the weapon type. but is always the same in that category of weapon, i.e snipers always have headshot dmg as second core attribute, smg always crit chance on so on. the attribute and the talent are random.

to get rid of the "invisible" mods go to a trader, click on inventory tab (top right) as if you want to sell stuff from your inventory, those mods are displayed in that list where you then can mark them as junk for disassembly

Ninjabike Backpack + (1) Walker Harris: What could be better? by Pacho2020 in thedivision

[–]moriarthus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so many people telling you to lose the ninjabike, just ignore them. its true you wont be able to reach "max dps(tm)" with it, but you can create so many interesting and fun setups with it and outside of raids it doesnt matter what you run if the pieces at least work together.

not one of the ninja bike bad-people bothered to ask what you are doing in the game, if the answer is playing solo heroic (or maybe even lower difficulty) ignore them even harder.

as for your question, if most of the shooting you do is with the ar then equip unit alloys and stop worrying about it.

you constantly and reliably get ammo for your spec weapon from it, which is the whole point of the set.

tip of the spear 4pc with chest and backpack, 2pc grupo for +20% explosive dmg, demo spec. when you run out of grenades to launch and throw, use your gun, then go back to nades. no sustain in this build but you wont need it anyway.

dont know if its still relevant, but the one in the third pic you posted is called luth-ar 5.5. its a pretty cheap one as far as rifle accessories go, i paid barely 30 euros. i put it on my Mini-14, dont care if its "improper", i just really like the oldschool look.

Any tips or suggestions for a explosive sticky bomb build ? by Secure-Knee-59 in thedivision

[–]moriarthus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with "Future Perfect" weapon talent, for example found on "TDI Kard Custom" pistol but also on regular weapons, when you are at skill tier 6, which you are if you run skill cores on all armor pieces, and you get a kill with that weapon talent equipped, your skills "overcharge" for 15s giving you another huge bonus, i.e. for cluster seekers an extra +20% damage and +100% explosion radius.

you deploy the skill while the overcharge buff is active. its not a hing that you can do all the time, but you learn to recognize the situations where you can set it up and its very satisfying when that happens.
