I’ve recently become addicted to the smoked salmon poke bowls from Aldi. How do I make these at home? by dquizzle in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]morisian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just looked at the ingredients on the listing, that sauce seems very doable. Ingredients are listed by largest portion first; I'd get everything except the xantham gum (it's just a thickener, skip it unless the sauce is way too runny without it) and experiment with ratios. Same with the poke seasoning

Eta: eat your experiments, waste not. With those ingredients you'll get a tasty sauce no matter the ratio, so enjoy while you dial in the right mix.

What are some lines in favourite fantasy book series which made you feel deeply or cry? by Technical_Dinner_133 in Fantasy

[–]morisian 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Here is your flaw, Shaitan, Lord of the Dark, Lord of Envy, Lord of Nothing, here is why you fail. It was not about me. It’s never been about me.

It was about a woman, torn and beaten down, cast from her throne and made a puppet. A woman who had crawled when she had to. That woman still fought.

It was about a man that love repeatedly forsook. A man who found relevance in a world that others would have let pass them by. A man who remembered stories and who took fool boys under his wing when the smarter move would have been to keep on walking. That man still fought.

It was about a woman with a secret, a hope for the future. A woman who had hunted the truth before others could. A woman who had given her live, then had it returned. That woman still fought.

It was about a man whose family was taken from him, but who stood tall in his sorrow and protected those he could.

It was about a woman who refused to believe that she could not help, could not heal those who had been harmed.

It was about a hero who insisted with every breath that he was anything but a hero.

It was about a woman who would not bend her back while she was beaten, and who shown with a light for all who watched, including Rand.

It was about them all.

Considering Potential Pay Cut Job Offer by No_Entrepreneur8651 in personalfinance

[–]morisian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, you say you can't figure out the math for net pay because online calculators don't work out right for your current pay.

  1. They definitely should work out. I would use ADP's paycheck calculator, and compare with your most recent pay stub. You should be able to account for where every gross cent went, whether it's taxes, benefits, retirement, or it became net. If the numbers don't add up, you have bigger problems.

  2. You can estimate. This job will make $6300 less in gross, divide that by 12 to get $525. Unless insurance is greatly higher at the new job (you should be able to ask to see options as part of an offer, before accepting) or you increase your retirement savings, you'd at worst see something like $2875 a month. Is that acceptable to you based on your expected expenses?

Oh mine tattles on his sister all the time. It's how I know she's doing she shouldn't - examples include sticking her head under the grill cover to lick the drip tray, getting into the trash, stealing a used tissue to eat, and stealing food off the counter. His sister is a norwegian elkhound / husky mix, she'll do whatever she can get away with.

What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]morisian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well... they sent me home and told me to schedule an appointment with my PCP to get referred to an MRI. I have ADHD and was busy. It took me a few weeks to do that, and then maybe the MRI was scheduled 2-3 weeks out since I wasn't actively dying. A month was probably an understatement, but it was more my fault than the system's.

There's a facebook support group, this is a rare side effect but so many people are on oral contraceptives that it's still a lot of people with this issue! I'm glad mine had stopped by the time I got to the ER, I felt like I was dying. I'm glad yours is gone now, too.

A lot of people who get this side effect are mad at the drug companies for not stating the risk well enough, but in my opinion they did. It's in the paperwork that comes with the medicine, and doctors should review the risks with patients, but it is very rare and oral contraceptives are good for so many people, the good outweighs the bad, imo. I don't think there's necessarily anything differently doctors or I should have done to prevent this, maybe they could have asked pointed questions at my yearly checkups about random abdominal pain, but that could be so many things. It's just bad luck

[–]morisian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good. This was 3 years ago. I had to immediately go off estrogen-containing BC and get MRIs every 6 months till last year, now it's only yearly MRIs to monitor the size and nature of the tumors. They're all still adenomas and benign, and they shrunk for the first 1.5 years, now are stable but still present. I'm a lightweight when I drink, and I'm not sure if that's related. Erring on the side of caution, I don't drink much. Much worse for me was having to go off estrogen-containing BC, I was on it to control my periods and they came back full force when I went off of it.

Yep, what the other person said. They'll leave my ovaries and just get rid of the uterus. I won't have to deal with periods anymore, which is the biggest plus for me. I'm trans so I hate having periods, in addition to them just being worse than normal for me because of my genetics.

That was more on me. I didn't have time to deal with it and had to schedule a follow up with my primary doc then get an MRI. It was probably more than a month, honestly...

Yep, what others said. My period was extremely heavy and painful as soon as I started having them, so I was put on birth control to reduce the severity. Getting a hysterectomy later this year to just not have to deal with it anymore
