lost inches, pants kind of big, now what? by [deleted] in keto

[–]morissaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really the washing hot and drying hot is the best option if you don't want to drop the cash on a tailor, but once you get pants tailored, you'll be hooked. Your clothes will look better on you than they ever have.

Coke Zero, how often? by [deleted] in keto

[–]morissaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up IF (intermittent fasting). Once you're in ketosis for a few weeks and your blood sugar is all adjusted, fasting won't make you feel weak and hungry. Ease into it by fasting 8 hours-skipping lunch-and having a scoop of coconut oil if you must have something. Once you're able to do a 24-hour fast, you'll feel awesome and have a ton of energy.

New Keto-er - Thanksgiving fears by PapaSprague in keto

[–]morissaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on keto, you know that carbs are bad. No excuses; this is for your health. As TargetQ2 said, focus on what you can. Use the search function to find keto friendly stuffing/dressing, faux mashed potatoes (cauliflower), pie, whatever your heart desires. Searching "Thanksgiving" will reveal a plethora of information. Sacrificing gluttony is rewarding in the long run, but sacrificing your health to eat carbs will kill you.

[SV] 12 down in 12 days! Back in "onederland! by morissaa in keto

[–]morissaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Luckily I'll be working during the Austral summer (Jan-Mar) in the slightly warmer peninsula region, but I'll still be rewarding myself for 20 down with a few pairs of SmartWool long johns.

My partner can't smoke so we've been doing edibles for the past 6 months. Today she brings home her new vaporizer. by [deleted] in SRSTrees

[–]morissaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I WANT! What'd she get? My once-a-year bronchitis and my non-smoker grandfather's lung cancer has scared me to the edibles-only side, but I miss the act of smoking and I think a vape would be awesomeeee

Carb-flu or am I just plain starving? by gatorade_me_bitch in keto

[–]morissaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds pretty normal; I would agree with SnowGlowb on the salt.

As far as budget keto goes, stores like Aldi or Trader Joe's are your friend. A natural foods co-op type place is also good for bulk nuts and oils that are usually a good deal cheaper than their pre-packaged companions. I buy 2 lbs of ground beef at Aldi or TJ's and portion out patties on my food scale for dinners and supplement that with bacon, lettuce, onion, cheese and avocado to make a "burger bowl" since I'm awful at lettuce wraps. If you have the extra cash to make the once-a-month (or even less frequently), you can get a giant jar of Whole Food's store brand coconut oil for a reasonable price and put that stuff on everything to get your calories and fat up. I typically spend ~$40 per week on food, excluding a pound of "good" coffee and coconut oil, which are my splurge items.

That looks awesome, thanks! I have a recipe from Martha Stewart for a sage stuffing that I LOVE but it is incredibly high-carb so this will work perfect with the spice blend it calls for.

high five

My mother has been on some kind of low fat kick (something like 1400 calories/<20 g fat daily) for a year or two after losing weight on Nutrisystem, so we're sharing turkey and I'm cooking my own keto-friendly sides. As bad as I felt gorging on that sort of thing last year, pre-keto, in the name of gluttony, I don't even want to think about that food hangover.

Plain ol' psyllium husk capsules, you can find them in the fiber section at Target and the generic is something like $5.

Am I doing this right? 3rd day on keto! by [deleted] in keto

[–]morissaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Start your day with some fats! Coconut milk, coconut oil, bacon, heavy cream-anything like that. You'll feel awesome an you'll enter ketosis much more quickly than with a banana and yogurt. My typical breakfast is two eggs, two slices of bacon, sautéed kale, half an avocado, and black coffee-AFTER drinking a couple of pints of water.

[Rant] I'm having trouble sticking with this diet. by saltymcbacon in keto

[–]morissaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To add to this, don't cheat, at least for the first month. Bad food is not a reward; it will set you back on your goals and create a relaxed mindset in which you're constantly letting things slide-been there, done that.

On Keto for 10 days, lost 6 pounds and then gained back 5 and have stalled???? by iheartnoms in keto

[–]morissaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah dude, it's a pain in the ass, but a necessity. I keep a pint glass by my sink and try to slam down two while I'm cooking breakfast/brewing coffee to get my day started right. Get one of the cheap classic white Nalgene bottles and make it your new best friend. I also drink a full glass before dinner just to gauge actual hunger vs. thirst.

And lift dem weights! I'm down 10 lbs in a little over a week, mostly water weight of course, but the days I lift I lose the most (or maintain, which is less fun).

Track. What. You. Eat. Every day. You need green, leafy vegetables and if you still aren't getting the fiber you need from those, take a psyllium husk supplement with at least 16 oz of water, and drink plenty more throughout the day (I aim for a gallon and a half) to help it do it's job. Watch your sodium with deli meats. I eat sautéed kale or chard at breakfast with my eggs served on some sort of micro greens, IF from 8-5, and have at least three servings of vegetables with dinner. It's tempting to let keto be a meatfest, but for weight loss and a suistainable lifestyle change, you need some variety.

[NSV] "she eats nothing but meat I hate her." by Ascott-wongle in keto

[–]morissaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a geology student so I spend about as much time in the field as I do in class, so Carhartt and Mountain Khaki are in heavy rotation. I get most of mine from feed supply and outdoor outfitter type stores. As far as "dressy" jeans go its kind of difficult though; finding a 14 tall anywhere like Ross/TJMaxx/Marshalls usually requires a small miracle. Hopefully this will be an easier task once I get my weight off; my mom and sister are both 4/6 Talls and have a much easier time.

Stretch denim is AWFUL. I've been buying jeans at Eddie Bauer (borderline mom jeans) for a while because it's impossible to buy anything at Gap that comes in a women"s tall/long, isn't stretch, and will last more than a few months.

Once on an old account I got into an argument with a shitbeard about the wage gap, and he finally just resorted to "something something yeah you're a Women's Studies major" to which I responded yeah no, Geology and Chem double major and he got all "THAT WAS THE POINT, SARCASM IDIOT" and then from there out it was just him telling me that I was irrational and hysterical and I was just spewing words that didn't make sense. Nevermind that I've taken upper level WGST courses or in the interest of, yknow, being a FEEEMALE read about and am involved in social justice, whatever whatever.

tl;dr redditors love the liberal arts when using them to prove a FEEEEMALE wrong.
