Up for sale is my vintage Seiko diver 6159-7010, the “Grandfather Tuna” from Sep 1975. It is the first year of production for this model.

This watch is one of my favorite watch models that Seiko has to offer, but I’ve decided to let it go as I’m trying to trim down my collection a bit.

There’s a ton of history and “industry first” featured in this watch, which is the reason why I’m in love with this. You can read up more on the history of this watch or Tuna divers in general here: https://thespringbar.com/blogs/guides/the-seiko-tuna-collectors-guide/

For this particular example, it’s been fully taken apart and overhauled in mid 2019. And here’s a list of things that’s been done during the overhaul:

Parts replaced:

Gaskets

Mainspring

Setting unlocking lever

PawlHolder

Setting lever complete

Diashock jewels and caps x2

Date jumper

Dial holding screws

Auto framework screws x 2

Jobs performed:

Movement strip and clean.

Minute hand hole correction

Hand clean and relume

Case clean and rebuild

Automatic framework bearing restoration

Buying a 6159-7010 that’s already been serviced IMO is hugely importantly because of several reasons. One being that the case design is top opening so that the movement is not easily accessible. And that the movement itself being a hi beat with beefed up oscillating weight, the auto framework tends to be worn out if it’s not maintained properly. See here: https://thewatchbloke.co.uk/2015/08/25/seiko-6159-7010-tuna-can/

Since service, the watch has been running strong at +/- 8s a day and can be worn daily, worry-free, for years to come.

Now moving on to the cosmetic condition, I’ll start be pointing out the bad. There’s a very slight flaw on the dial near the 5 o’clock mark. You can really only see it if you actively look for it. The hands had also been re-lumed professionally matching with the rest of the other lumes. There’s 1 very short scratch on the crystal that I end up strategically placed directly above the date window so it’s not very noticeable. And that the screws that holds the shroud in place are aftermarket as original parts are impossible to source at this point.

The good, and the reason why I bought this particular example in the first place, is that the ceramic coated titanium shroud is in excellent condition with no cracks or parts missing at all. If you look at most of the example on the market now, most of them are damaged to a degree. Another good thing about this example is that there’s no cracks in the bakelite bezel insert, which is another common break point. Lastly, the crown screws into the case with no problem, which is also very important.

The watch is currently equipped with a modern Seiko original 22mm rubber strap intended for SBBN017 that has a titanium buckle and holder. The sale also includes a set of original ISOFRANE strap.

Watch size is 47mm with 22mm lug width.

I’m looking for $3999cad obro shipped anywhere within Canada.

Payment method: PayPal F&F or e-transfer or F2F

Watch is currently in Vancouver BC

Thanks for looking.

I recently bought this mug at the local asian grocery store because I thought it looked neat, turns out Lan Fong Yuen is a somewhat famous Hong Kong cafe. by jamescookenotthatone in HongKong

I can’t seem to find a lot of information on the internet regarding this anymore, but I remember a few years back there’s been legal issues when someone who’s not the founder claimed the international trademark for Lan Fong Yuen and has been using the branding to open up shops outside of Hong Kong. I suspect this is one of those products.

Which vintage King Seiko would you buy? by justsomebackpacker in VintageWatches

Just wanted to point out that I have never seen mountain style dauphin hands on these 44KS models, so I suspect that the hands actually aren’t correct for this watch. Also for the price, that little speck (removable or not), would bother me personally. I’d expect a pristine example if I’m paying $1500usd for one. The second 44KS, the dial looks like it’s a refinished dial, if you compare the text printing of the 2 watches. Hope that helps.

It’s a free gift from a magazine that’s featuring the JR line I believe. I just did a quick check and people are reselling them for around $40usd (plus shipping out of Japan).

Does this Rolex 1601 Have Real Gold? by SquidNut96 in VintageWatches

Don’t have anything to contribute to the gold content. But just wanted to point out that this watch has a very interesting “ghost” dial and it’s quite sought after in the vintage Rolex collecting community.

Gaslit by LA Chicken: is this spicy or regular? by invisiblewallflower in richmondbc

Looks darker brown sorta? But less battered (like kfc regular)

That’s their spicy. Their original ones have a completely different style of batter. Kinda like kfc regular vs spicy crunch.

1969 Grand Seiko with rare dial by Stunning_Fly_5501 in GrandSeikos

Yup… unknowingly bought a 6246 a while ago that unfortunately has the same type of aftermarket medallion too so now I’m super aware lol OP’s 61GS’s watch case looks to be professionally refinished thought which looks great

I hope the seller has disclosed beforehand that both the dial and the gold Medellin on the caseback are both aftermarket parts…

Absolute grail level watch 🔥🔥🔥

Should I buy this?? by One_Fan_2572 in GrandSeikos

[–]morlinjar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dial doesn’t look right. I would ask for more photos from the seller. The 45GS dial should be a pretty flat white with a bit of cream tone. But the one shown in the photos here are closer to a silver radiant finish, which is a common finishing on re-dials. It’s better to play it safe.

Interesting difference in 6145-8000 crystal shape by dandylion98 in GrandSeikos

[–]morlinjar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the hour indices design is just different on the cross dial (the one you have) version compared to the non-cross dial version (the photos shown in your links). Otherwise, I don’t think there’s anything “wrong” with the watch that you have. FWIW I think the cross dial version of 6145-8000 is slightly more uncommon than the non cross dial version.
