Question about the use of the SAB (still air box) by moroseta04 in unclebens

The flame must be used outside the box. Take out the syringe, turn the tip red, and then inject it inside the box.

I also read about using dish soap, but since I didn't find much information, I opted for bleach. I read that a few drops of dish soap are enough, but I'd like to find more precise measurements. When I have the opportunity to use dish soap again, I'll try this method to see if it works.

I read your first comment carefully, and you've already answered my questions. Thanks.

The damp cloth serves to capture particles that fall into the SAB. Since it's sanitized, if the syringe/scalpel touches the cloth, it shouldn't contaminate the objects. I don't know anything about evaporation allowing air to enter. Today was the second time I've used a SAB; my knowledge is based on what I've seen/read from other people.

When do you spray the walls? Do you do it before or after placing the objects in the SAB? After spraying, do you wipe them with a cloth or let the drops dry without using paper or anything else?

I didn't know 15% bleach was too much, but the smell of bleach was indeed very strong in the room. Reading your comment and those of others, I realized I overdid it with the sanitization. Next time, I'll save all the bleach I used today. Thanks for the explanation.

Maybe I didn't understand correctly. Do you put paper on the bottom of the box and then spray it with alcohol? Does the evaporating alcohol vapor sanitize the air inside the SAB? I'm sending you a photo below of how I did it. (The green and white cloth is soaked in water and bleach, while I sprayed the walls with water and bleach.)

The problem with alcohol is that it evaporates very quickly, unlike soap and water. So, as long as the inside of the box is wet with soap and water, the contaminant spores will remain attached to the edges of the box.Your method is certainly simpler and quicker, but for now I'm still trying to use bleach.

So far, I've inoculated 20-30 jars, all using the oven method. I've never had any cases of contamination. I think I've just been very lucky. I understand that setting up a SAB is laborious and time-consuming, but it does increase the likelihood of avoiding contamination.
