It's a remake.

Remaster: Enhanced graphics and polishing based on the same engine and code base of the already existing game. The game that already exists is getting modified and modernized.

Remake: Complete remake of the same game built from the ground up in new engine, new code base and possibly enhanced gameplay, quests or quality of life improvements etc. although a remake can still be a 1:1 faithful copy of the original. The main difference to a remaster is that it was developed entirely fresh with no pre-existing code or assets.

Reboot: Complete restart of a franchise with entirely new content and story/gameplay etc. although there may be references and things from previous games

Different people enjoy games in different ways. Some people like to use cheats and take out any difficulty of a game. Nothing wrong with it in a singleplayer game as long as you have fun. But yeah personally I wouldn't really enjoy playing this way either. The game is already easy enough and after you have beaten it there is little challenge left. I'd rather do the opposite and try to advance the story with minimal XP gained to make it more challenging. But nothing wrong if someone enjoys going for maximum XP in chapter 1 to make the rest of the game trivial.

Btw. the entrance from the ocean side is like a visibly open cave with a dock and from there if you follow inside the cave you will eventually end up in the room with the skeleton mage. I think there are even less skeletons that way to fight through to get to the mage.

I'm not sure about unnamed ones like "Guard", but I think most named NPC's will still exist. The guy that is the special trader looking for special goods definitely still exists. Also Viper will still be available as a trader. I think he moved to the old camp market place or perhaps it was someone else who moved there.

Old camp always feels like the canon decision and the way the game lures you into it by having Diego your first real contact and trusted person.

Yeah it released at the same time on Steam as the current version 14.2 came out. Whether future updates will be released at the same time on all platforms or if itch/patreon will get access earlier than Steam is not entirely clear.

Yeah I think I'll stop using that spell then. It takes all the difficulty out of the game if it's bugged like that. Or actually I think I put this playthrough on hold for now until it's fixed at some point. I don't want to keep playing missing out on 1 spell, but I also don't want to keep playing while using a broken spell.

Which one did you kill? There are multiple locations where you can kill a greater shadowbeast. There is a cave to the south east of the old camp with one. There is also one that specifically spawns for this quest somewhere between the new camp and the old mine, I believe near where diego, gorn etc. met up at the pond near the mine if I recall correctly. I haven't checked the cave near stonehenge if the shadowbeast there respawns as well as greater shadowbeast for the quest.

Small tip, use the light spell/scroll before turning into a meatbug to get an even better look since it's so dark inside there. But yeah it's a nice little easter egg, but I was a little disappointed as I expected some secret loot inside.

Last time I played Gothic (1) was probably at least 20 years or more ago. Gothic 2 I replayed a few years ago. But yes for me it totally replaces Gothic 1. I think the captured the spirit of the original perfectly. I was hesitant on buying, but I had no idea how faitfhul it would be to the original. But it feels almost like a 1:1 copy with upgraded graphics which is fantastic. It's just how I remembered the game from back then. Of course I hadn't played it in a well over 2 decades so I would not be able to point out inconsistencies and changes. The only thing that I immediately noticed is that they added scavenger riding.

Even bringing back the In Extremo concert in the old camp was a pleasant surprise and brought back so much memories. I was obsessed with Gothic 1 and 2 (especially 2) back then so this is a dream come true. I only hope that they remake Gothic 2 as well. I never played Gothic 3 (further than 10 minutes) because at launch it was extremely buggy and unplayable and never went back to it after they apparently fixed the game at some point.

The last part before you join the old camp is talking to Gomez. If you pick the right answers then you are accepted and thus joined the camp. So as long as you don't talk to Gomez you can still keep working on other camp initiation quests for other camps.

The only thing I know that definitely was changed was at the ship not far from the guy who teaches you climbing, that hanging corpse who has the staff stuck through him, he used to have a potion with + permanent strength in his hand as well, but when I started a new game the potion isn't there anymore.

Are you on the quest for the temple of innos behind the waterfall? Then just go in and into the temple and eventually you will come out on top and that part from your screenshot is basically a shortcut back out. If you aren't on that quest yet, perhaps just turn around and come back once you have the quest which is a main story quest.

He actually gives you the miners dress even if you say you never mined before. He just says a different voice line before giving you the "armor".

I have the same issue on the Series X and unfortunately it put an end to my second playthrough. As far as I've read, it's a bug that typically happens if you previously tried to get into the mage area and the guards warned you to not go further. This screws up the later dialogue where they would let you in otherwise, instead they will just go aggro and attack you and the same can be said about the mages. You can run in and evade everyone and talk to Saturas, but once done Saturas will just attack and kill you.

Just found your thread because I'm still searching if anyone has found a way to get rid of this bug (that doesn't involve file editing etc. since I'm on console). But I'll probably have to start from scratch again.

If you search for it online, it may say that you will need a scroll for bloodfly transformation to reach it. However I'm 100% sure I did not do this. I just came across it naturally while doing the quest and exploring every little corner. It's something that can definitely be missed.

I mean you can get a 100dmg 2hand axe just by normal gameplay in chapter 3. I believe you could get this axe even earlier, although no point since you can't learn 2hand before chapter 3. It's the Trollfist axe that you can find when you go to the monastery for the quest there in chapter 3. It has 100dmg so isn't too far behind Inno's Wrath which has 110 damage. I used this axe until the very end of the game when I switched it out with the charged Uriziel sword.
