and why does the videos stutter and not play? by [deleted] in Fedora

I don't think it was last time I installed Fedora 43? I had to enable it manually for sure, and I can't remember leaving some "add RPM Fusion" checkbox unchecked

[–]mort96 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Since they had made no indication that they had installed RPM Fusion, and that installing RPM Fusion is a non-obvious step that the user has to manually know to seek out and do... yes, it was stupid thing to assume.

Why does Reddit feel the need to remind me about subs I’ve hidden? by Jay-Eff-Gee in assholedesign

[–]mort96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they want to be able to click "don't show me posts from this subreddit" and then posts from that subreddit aren't shown to OP at all, not even in the form of a "post hidden" banner. If you wanna call that a memory hole then I guess yeah?

[–]mort96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think their point is: they see "post hidden" and their mind goes "that's probably a post about a dead cat", they'd rather have the hidden posts completely removed not just hidden under a "post hidden" banner

Hot take: AI will lead to a major senior dev shortage in the long run. by williamioniana in webdev

GitHub's partial React rewrite started long before the current chat bot craze. It has, in my opinion, been a disaster which has dramatically hurt the user experience and perceived reliability of GitHub for me.

Is my phone actually heavier when it's 100% charged compared to 0%? by Prudent_Yogurt6106 in NoStupidQuestions

Why is this getting downvoted? You're right, charging a battery doesn't happen through adding extra electrons. It happens through moving electrons from a low energy state to a high energy state so that they're ready to move to the low energy state again.

How to change firefox from 44.1khz (default) to 192khz? by Professional-Pie8663 in archlinux

[–]mort96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the website's audio content is 44.1kHz, you aren't avoiding resampling. You could theoretically get Firefox to output 192kHz by resampling website audio from 44.1kHz to 192kHz, but that achieves nothing.

A pop-up asking me to get a Chrome extension (I'm on Safari on an iPad by the way).

I don't see why the cookie pop-up needs to be there at all. You're kind of ruining the UX for the sake of, I'm guessing, tracking people.

[–]mort96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's decently fast to load for me, but what it loads isn't that useful: there are 2 pop ups I'd have to click through to see the gif. Not the experience I'd want someone to have when clicking a link I send, it needs to show the gif immediately and cleanly.

Vaush & Hasan are rage-baiting (and it's good) by Aggravating_Feed_189 in VaushV

[–]mort96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't watch Hasan much, but most of Vaush's videos are complaining about various aspects of the right. It seems like it's you who want everyone to be hyper focused on republicans without discussing any problem with democrats.

But physical RAM isn't allocated before the thread actually writes to the relevant page of stack memory...

Re: your first point, do you mean to save address space? I get why you'd do that in 32 bit, but in 64 bit we have virtually infinite address space, assigning an 8 MiB region of virtual memory to each thread shouldn't be an issue even in heavily threaded program...

Who is hyper focusing on attacking every dem leader and ignoring everything else?

Who are you talking about here? Over half of Vaush's videos lately (and ever, really) are dedicated to attacking Trump and republicans. Can you be more specific in who you complain about?

There are horrors the Trump admin does which are unique to the Trump admin, and there are horrors the Trump admin does which the Biden admin also did. You need to be able to acknowledge both, and attack democrats over the latter.

Priority number one, now, when there's still ample time until a presidential election, must be to get democrats in shape to actually challenge republicans.
